The Ten Bucks

BELLADONNA: The Deadly Nightshade

06 – The Ten Bucks

"Are you sure you keep the envelope there?" Melanie asked from across the line.

Belle nodded frantically, realizing that Mel could not see her head, she exhaled and sighed "Yes..."

The gust mixed with the grunt only made Belle even more convinced that Dale was indeed a big-time asshole who deserves to be removed from the face of the earth, even though he is her only brother. That useless scumbag!

Belle threw herself on the sofa and kicked Dale's blanket into the corner of the room, Dale's trail completely disappeared. He even took off with his clothes that were drying, she had to admit the speed and precision of Dale who could escape in just a few minutes.

Belle massaged her throbbing forehead. "The money for the rent, I planned to hand it over tomorrow. It's overdue for two months, if I'm not paying it tomorrow, cut. I'm homeless."

For a moment there was no voice from Mel.

"Mel?" asked Belle in surprise, she checked her cell phone, making sure that the line was still on, "Mel? You still there?"

"Belle, I'm sorry. I already late. Gotta go." Without hearing Belle's answer, Melanie hung up on her.

"O… Okayyy…" Belle was confused, her sentence was answered in a monotone voice "tut tut" from across the line.

Even her best friend had no more interest in dealing with her.

Belle looked at the ceiling, what should she do? The envelope contained her savings, she drained the rest of her savings to pay for the late rental fee. She had received a warning letter from the Landlord which meant she had to pay immediately or leave.

Belle crumpled the message Dale scrawled on the pizza bill furiously.

'How could he do that to me ?!' she muttered to herself, 'left me only ten dollars and fifteen cents?!'

Belle tidied up the crumpled money and put it in her empty wallet. She smiled bitterly, at least Dale left a little bit for her, how ironic, that bastard thought she could survive on just ten bucks?!
