Sealing the Nexus

As the dust settled from their final confrontation with the guardian of the Nexus, Amanda looked at Belial and asked, "The guardian, it was as if it recognized you. How is that possible?"

Belial stepped forward, his gaze somber as he regarded his companions.

"There's something you need to know, or perhaps it is something you already know." he said, his voice low and grave. "I... I allowed you to defeat this darkness because... because I am darkness."

The group exchanged uneasy glances, the weight of Belial's words sinking in as they struggled to comprehend the implications of what he was saying. They had believed him to be evil yet he had allowed them to do things that were not evil, the truth of the situation had not become clear to them.

"But why?" Clare asked, her voice tinged with disbelief. "Why would you do such a thing?"

Belial hesitated, his eyes betraying a flicker of doubt before he squared his shoulders and met their gazes head-on.

"Because I crave power," he admitted, his voice heavy with guilt. "Because I am drawn to darkness like a moth to flame. I allowed you to defeat evil because it makes it easier for me to be in control. Since the beginning this has always been about me, I know you understood this, now you understand exactly what it means."

Belial continued, "With my enemies gone, it makes it easier for me to move forward with my plans, with my brother gone, my father, the guardians, the others, all while my power continues to grow."

The group fell silent, the enormity of Belial's confession hanging heavy in the air. For a moment, they were paralyzed by the revelation, unsure of how to proceed.

But then, Clare spoke up, her voice filled with determination. "We can't let your actions go unpunished," she said, her eyes flashing with anger. "You may be darkness, but that doesn't excuse what you've done. We cannot forgive you and we will stop you."

Belial nodded, his expression resigned. "I understand," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't expect forgiveness. But I ask that you consider your next move, if the Nexus is not sealed it means other evils will continue to emerge. Is that what you desire? Allow me to help you seal the Nexus, so that this darkness that's been unleashed can never again threaten this world."

The group hesitated, torn between their anger and their sense of duty. But in the end, they knew that Belial was right. They couldn't undo what had been done or who he was, but they could ensure that the Nexus would never again have a chance to wreak havoc on their world.

With a heavy heart, they agreed to Belial's request, their hands trembling as they set to work sealing the Nexus once and for all. And as they worked, they couldn't shake the feeling that their journey was far from over - that their greatest challenges still lay ahead.

As the group worked together to seal the Nexus, a sense of solemnity hung over them, each member grappling with their own thoughts and emotions in the wake of Belial's revelation. The task at hand was daunting, but they were determined to see it through to the end, no matter the cost.

As they worked, Belial kept his distance, his gaze lingering on the group with a mixture of what could be considered guilt and regret. He knew that he had betrayed their trust, and he couldn't shake the feeling of shame that gnawed at him from within. But even with the doubt, he stood behind his decisions, he stood behind his desire for power. If it the end that created five more enemies for him to deal with later, he was prepared for that.

Clare, Rachel, Hannah, Ellie and Amanda worked tirelessly, their minds focused solely on the task at hand as they channeled their magic and strength into sealing the Nexus. With each passing moment, they could feel the energy of the Nexus growing weaker, its dark influence waning as they worked to contain it once and for all.

But just as they were on the verge of completing their task, a sudden surge of dark energy swept through the cavern, threatening to overwhelm them with its malevolent force. The group faltered, their resolve tested as they struggled to maintain their hold on the Nexus.

With a cry of defiance, Belial stepped forward, his own magic flaring to life as he joined his companions in their struggle. Despite his past transgressions, he knew that he had to do whatever it took to ensure that this darkness was sealed away for good.

Together, they poured their combined strength into the task, pushing back against the dark energy with all their might. And then, with one final burst of power, they succeeded—the Nexus sealed shut once and for all, its dark influence banished from the world.

As the group caught their breath, a sense of relief washed over them, their hearts lightened by the knowledge that they had succeeded in their quest. But even as they celebrated their victory, they knew that Belial was still by their side and they were unsure what that would mean for the future.

"What happens now?" Clare said, her eyes fixed on Belial. "Do we now fight you?"

"My dear girls," Belial replied, scanning the five girls, "You have done well. You have achieved all that I have asked you to do and you have grown quite powerful in your own right. But don't overestimate your achievement. Even with your combined power, you are still no match for me."

Amanda reached out and put her hand on Clare's arm, "He is right, we cannot defeat him today."

The others stood silently, understanding that Amanda was right in what she had said.

"So what now?" Clare asked.

"You have all done well, as a reward, I am prepared to release you from your duty. It is time for me to move on. As you have seen, this is only one of many realms out there and I still have much to do." Belial Continued, "Your powers are yours to keep. Over time you may become more powerful and we may possibly meet in the future. But for now, Amanda is right."

"Each of you will have to chart your own course. We have talked before about heroes and villains, good and evil, remember, you choose how to behave. While the world may judge you for your actions, in the end, your opinion is the only one that truly matters." He finished.

With that, Belial waved his hand and disappeared. No hugs, no long goodbyes, after everything, he was just gone.

Looking at each other, Ellie spoke up. "Let's go home."
