Robert walks into the room holding the bandages for Caroline to treat her wounds and saw her on the bed lying on her stomach immersed in thoughts.
"What are you thinking?" He asks placing the tray on the table beside the bed and moving closer to her.
"Nothing," She says turning her head to look at him as he marched towards her sitting on the edge of the bed to treat her wounds and taking the medicine and applying it to her wounds.
"Robert" Caroline tried to not bring it up but she was not that strong and ends up calling him to ask about it.
"Yes" Robert replied waiting for her to speak, he was aware she would ask him but he was not sure when and seeing her call him, it was clear it is time, and he braced himself.
Caroline pulls her body up resting on her elbows and glancing back at Robert, he looks at her calmly pulling his hands away from her back.
"If she did not step in to stop Zanuel earlier, would you just let me die and do nothing?" She questions him, as the curiosity was killing her.
Robert held his head down, not replying to her, and that was much of an answer to her.
It didn't matter who Zanuel tried to kill, Robert will never step in between, his firm trust in him will never let him go against him and the belief Zanuel would never kill someone without a reason is all Robert knows.
Robert did not answer and pretended as if he heard nothing and reached for the herbs to apply them on her back, but Caroline was not going to back down without an answer.
"What you did was wrong!" Robert replied taking a deep breath, that's all he had to answer, and that answer was making Caroline lose her temper.
"I'm not asking you if I was wrong or right" she snaps at him, but he maintained his calm.
Robert is the only demon after Zanuel who could control his feelings no matter what the situation he is in, he heaves a sigh and moves a little closer to her caressing her head.
"I love you, Carl, and I would do anything for you, I even understand what you did, you love My Lord, and I respect that, seeing someone else who you care about is more worried about another person hurts, I know that" he paused looking at her "But you forgot that she was the guest, the guest of My Lord, and doing something to her was wrong and stopping him from punishing you for the wrong is not something I can do" he added.
Caroline was hurt, her eyes gave her out, she knew the undeniable trust and loyalty Robert had for him, but she was not expecting this.
"Not even when he tries to kill me,?" She asks wiping the tears from her face.
Robert knew his answers will draw a wedge between them but he couldn't risk lying just for the sake, he loved her, but he loved Zanuel more.
"It matters, but if the person killing you is My Lord then yes I will not try to stop him" Robert saw the hurt in Caroline's eyes, as she pulled her body up and walked away from him, all these years they were happy together, but now it is going to be hard.
Caroline and Robert had always loved Zanuel, and not having him around made them get closer to each other and find solace in their company and now that he is back things will never get back to normal.
Robert rubs his forehead thinking this was going to make things hard and hides his face in his palms, but there was no regret.
Caroline walks away from him, but she couldn't stay strong and her anger breaks and she falls to the ground in the hallway, tears flowing down her cheeks.
But she couldn't let anyone else see her crumbling, so she stood by the walk pulling herself together and saw a shadow standing in front of her, she quickly wiped the tears from her eyes to get a clear view of the person and saw Margaret.
"Is it bearable?" She asks, a little worried. Caroline looks at her in disgust, but Margaret held no expression on her face.
"Don't take another step, Margaret, I will kill you" she warns her, though Margaret is a demon, she also is a human "I just wanna help you, Caroline" she says trying to hold her, Caroline couldn't believe what she heard.
"You are the one who hurt me like this" She mocks reminding her.
"I know, and I want to be the one to help you, so please" Margaret replied.
Caroline had no energy to waste fighting Margaret with her back bleeding, so she gave in and she takes her to the room to tends her wounds, and after getting treated she walked out of the room.
"Caroline" Margaret calls stopping her from leaving "Can you not hate Robert?" she pleads her on his behalf, as she can relate to him, she lived all her life listening about Zanuel, and how he saved Robert, and not being loyal to him is like a sin to them.
"Huh?" Caroline looks back at her trying to understand, but she couldn't interpret what she was implying to.
"He can't go against him, My Lord saved him when no one did. Nothing in this world can make him walk away from that and you tried to kill My Lord's guest, if it was someone else Robert would have killed them without a second thought but he brought you back with him to Lord so that he can plead for you" Caroline scoffs listening her explanation, she was not interested in it.
"..."
Robert marched towards the library and stepped in the room and saw Zanuel indulging himself in the books of spells.
"My Lord" he calls for him walking closer to him, he had to muster all his courage to get to him.
"What?" Zanuel asks, holding his head down, looking at the books, searching for answers.
"All this-" he asks pointing to the books on the floor, Zanuel finally lifts his head up at him staring at him for the questions.
"Don't tell me you believed when I said I was lucky" Zanuel asked Robert closing the book he had in his hands. There was no possibility that this was just a mere coincidence and he had his guesses there is more to it.
"I am going to visit some old friends, make sure Denisa is safe" he orders getting up from his chair and walking closer to him.
"Yes, My Lord," Robert replied agreeing to him.
'Don't do anything stupid until I come back' Zanuel said looking back at the room.
Robert watches him as he vanished in thin air and goes back to Denisa's room to make sure she was safe, and the doors opened wide.
Denisa hurriedly turns back looking at him hiding the books behind her and stares at the door.
"My Lady" He says walking towards her, Denisa cleared her throat marching back towards him.
"What is it, Robert?" She asks a little annoyed, as he disturbed her time.
"I am here to keep you safe, My Lady" He says waiting for her to say something or protest against it but she just stares at him what felt like an eternity before she spoke again.
"Why? Will I be attacked by some other blood-sucking monster today or the same old one?" She questions him sarcastically.
"Nothing like that will happen today, My Lady" he assures her, as no one would dare come closer to her if he's guarding her.
Denisa walked back to bed settling down and reading the book she was trying to hide awhile ago.
Robert notices her reading the book, and looks at her confused thinking where did she got those books.
"My Lady, where did you find that book?" Robert asks, as that book looked familiar to him, as he was the one who bought those.
"I got it from the bookshelf" she says pointing behind at the wall of her bed and Robert looks at her confused, she shakes her head and walks him to the back of the wall showing him the shelf filled with books. His eyes grew in shock and lips part, he wanted to say something but he couldn't find words.
"Why does it look like this is the first time you saw it?" She asks him as he looked at it in confusion and shock.
"Because it is" he confessed to her "I never came to his room, let alone this uhm- huge book shelf" he adds, fascinated seeing the shelves filled with books.
"Who collected all these books?" She asks him curiously, she had her guesses seeing the place.
"It was My Lord," he said and paused looking at her "But after he was locked in the coffin, Kimberly made sure his palace was well maintained and always ready to welcome him back"
"Well she did a pretty a good job, see the tower of books, did she buy al of these books?" she asked him.
"Yes mostly, some were bought by me, the one you are reading right now was bought by me"
Denisa was always a book worm, she was always restricted to her chambers and all she could do was to see the outside world through books, though after she was a little older she was able to sneak away and Olivia covered for her.
"My Lord loves books, so even when he was locked we wanted to make sure he had good books for himself whenever he is to be back" Robert boosted and his eyes sparkle speaking of Zanuel.
Denisa stares at him calmly reading him, their loyalty and respect for him was remarkable.
"You never came here? like in his room?" She inquires and he shakes his head in reply.
"No, I couldn't bring myself, I always left the books at the door step and Kimberly would do the rest" he admits, it was hard.
"Oh wait, I was told there was a book written on my parents but I never got to see or read it do you think it'll be here?" Denisa asks curiously
"Yes My Lady, what's the title of the book?" he made sure to buy every book in the kingdom every month until now.
"The Prosper warriors" she says and eagerly waits for him to search it for her, Robert stood in front of the shelves and the books pulled by themselves, as if he was talking to them, the books came forward and he pulled one book down from the corner of the shelves "here my lady" he hands her the book.
"Thank you, Robert" she says and happily rushed back to the bed.
Denisa was happy, this might be the only good thing that happened since she met Zanuel.
"You can sit on the couch, don't just hover Robert" she says and buried herself in the books, Robert smiles at her and sits across her on the couch watching her.
"My parents were great warriors" Denisa says proudly, she couldn't feel any happier, the book was filled with praises and war stories.
Aurous was also mentioned in the books, he fought with them and Olivia's face flashed in front of her and tears form in her eyes, she quickly wiped them away but Robert was quick.
"What happened, My Lady?" he asks looking at her sobbing.
"I have to go back, Robert" she admits, hoping to find any way back home "My Lady, you can't go back" he knew Zanuel, and there is not way out for Denisa anymore.
"If I don't go back, the king will kill her" she yells tears falling down her cheeks.
"Who?" he asked, trying to know who she is keen on saving and to find a solution to this.
"Olivia" she says and he remembers her the name, it was the same she told earlier.
"Who is she?" Robert knew it has to be a family but wanted to be confirm about it.
"She's the only family left" she puts the book away wiping the tears from her face.
Robert wanted to help, after all she is the one who set his Lord free from the coffin, and ended his torment.
"I can't take you back to your chambers My Lady," He paused looking at her "but I can bring her to you, do you want me to do that?" he offered help, as he thought Zanuel would not be against it and Denisa looks at him in hope.
"Can you do that?" She asks getting up from the bed and walking closer to him.
"Yes, My Lady" he agrees right away.
"No one is going anywhere" The voice echoed in the room, and the door opened wide and Zanuel walked into the room.
"I was clear last time you are going nowhere and no one will come here," Zanuel says staring at Robert who would rather die than go against his Lord's words.
"I will kill myself Zanuel" Denisa had no other choice now, she would rather die than be here failing to save the people she loves.
"Leave" Zanuel orders Robert to leave, and he walks out of the room, leaving them alone and the door closed behind him
"You will kill yourself?" He asks her, clenching his fist tightly trying not to lose his temper and do anything stupid.
"Yes, I will die! I never asked to be here, you are keeping me here against my will" she snapped at him, the anger was valid, she was forced into it against her will
Zanuel takes a sharp breath glaring at her grinding his teeth.
"You want to go back to your fiancée?" he taunts, staring at her, his eyes warning her to wisely choose her words, while Denisa was not reading them clearly.
"Yes, I do" She says, ending up provoking him, which will only make things bad.
Zanuel is having a hard time controlling his feelings for Denisa, and she was testing and pushing his limits all along, and it was getting harder and harder for him to stay calm. He walks closer to her pulling her closer to him, Denisa tried to push him but couldn't.
"You can try all you want but trust me princess, you will never be able to run away from me. I. will. not. let. that. happen." he says and lets her go
"Why! Just why!" she screamed in frustration glaring at him but he didn't care and walked away from her.
Denisa did not want to do it but he left her no choice, she knew he wouldn't let her die and her life is the only leverage she had on her side, she hurriedly grabbed the knife from the table and placed it over her hands and closed her eyes and cut the wrist open.
The warm blood started dripping down her palm and her fingers drenched in blood, she felt the blood on her fingers but it didn't hurt, she forced her eyes open and saw Zanuel standing in front of her, she looked at him confused and then at her wrist.
"Why would you do that?" Denisa asks him in disbelief, as his blood drips over her hand and shakes her head and searches for anything to stop the bleeding.
Zanuel observes her trying to find anything to stop the bleeding and notices the tears falling from her eyes and worry covered for him in her eyes.
"I told you, I won't let you die" Zanuel assured her, glancing at her and reached to wipe the tears away from her face.
"You are foolish, why would you do that? what will you do if this doesn't heal?" she says and Zanuel stares at her blankly, did she forget he was a demon and the cut would heal in no time.
Zanuel looks at her in confusion as his heart aches seeing her cry.
"Stop crying!" he demands but she didn't listen and tears keep falling down her eyes making it hard for him to stay sane.
Zanuel couldn't see the tears and pressed his lips against hers and she froze, her eyes wide open in shock and he pulled her closer to him making her stumble on her feet, but his firm hands held her in place, right between in his arms and the blood dripping from Zanuel's wrist covered Denisa's pretty white gown.
He traced her body feeling her, the soft lips were intoxicating but she used all her self restraint to move away from him but he pulled her even more closer tasting her salty tears as they kiss, holding her tight feeling her heartbeat.
Denisa couldn't resist the man and gives in and kisses Zanuel back, sucking his lower lip, he paused for a while but quickly devours her. He slowly let go his grip over Denisa and smiled staring at her lips which he wanted to taste for ages.
"You taste just as I imagined," he says brushing his thumb over her lower lip "And it's Devine!"
