Chapter 9: The Chronoscribe

"The Galactic Trade Centre. Built by the Aerith Galactic Empire as a testament of their Superiority. Nothing impressive for something claiming to be a superior race to me, but for you humans considering your age it is quite a sight to see."

"Why have I been brought here?" Jake spoke as he turned his interest away from the station.

'BOOOOOOOM!!!' An explosion so large took place that it wiped two neighbouring systems with it.

"In 100,000 years this station will explode, and trillions will perish, no matter what is done to try and stop the explosion, it will still occur at the exact date and time. That is destiny." the voice spoke calmly to Jake as he listened to the voice.

"So everyone's path is set in stone? Everything will happen for a reason. So my mother was right?"

"You are correct but only halfway." The voice spoke.

"Although the station will explode, what about the trillions living their life on it? Their day-to-day experiences, their choices and consequences are all decided by them and them alone but compared to the station all their decisions are meaningless."

"So what you're saying is we are directly responsible for our destiny however there will be certain decisions that no matter the choices will always end up in the same outcome." Jake tried to understand the voice's words and replied.

"Correct, No one's destiny is set in stone and beings are free to make their own choices, however, there are some events that will take place no matter what and the universe will implode before these events will change.

Although sometimes even destiny can play tricks on you." The voice answered Jake's thoughts.

"What does that mean."

"Some events that may look impossible to change may be an event that can easily be stopped while some events which may look as though made by you can be impossible to avoid.

There is also another, an event neither completely affected by destiny nor free will.

The event may or may not play the same way however the aftermath will be of equal importance." The Voice finally ended its explanation.

Jake was slightly confused by the voice's answer but was once again thinking of his family.

"Now that I've answered your question, how do I save my family."

"You must listen to me very carefully." The Voice spoke to Jake.

"Close your eyes and calm your mind. Do not try to resist and bear with it. The longer you can hold on the better you will understand."

"It will help you Jake, listen to its advice and you may be able to save your family."

"Goodbye Jake...for now." The Voice spoke its last as it disappeared.

Jake listened to the voice's words as he did what it told him.

'The voice said to close my eyes and not to resist it. Resist what? And what will help me' Jake wondered before starting to clear his mind.

The second he did that his mind was flooded with memories, Death, War, Destruction, Joy, Hope, and Despair.

Billions of memories of beings, objects systems and planets were sent to Jake's mind.

In less than a nanosecond, these memories had overloaded Jake as he once again passed out.

"THE CHRONOSCRIBE." Jake who woke up in shock shouted out as he had a flashback of what happened.

"The chromo what?" A young girl's voice which Jake had immediately recognised as he turned to look at his big sister staring at him with a confused expression.

Jake was bewildered as he looked around and he realized he was still in his bed.

Tears started falling from his eyes as he stared at his big sister realising he just had a nightmare.

"j-jake why are you crying," Aria asked him softly with a worried expression not before coming over to check on him.

Before she could reach him Jake had woken and hugged her, shocking Aria.

Aria who was not used to hugs from Jake was flustered and didn't know what to do. "J-Jake what happened?"

Jake proceeded to hug her tighter as he slowly wept.

Aria although cold still cared about her brother and wrapped her arms around him to try and calm him down.

Only 15 minutes later did Jake leave his sister's arms and had calmed down.

"What happened Jake?" Aria once again asked Jake with concern.

"I-I don't know, I had a dream where everyone was gone," Jake spoke weakly, still affected by his nightmare.

"It's just a dream we're all still here, Mom, Dad, and Iris. So don't worry too much okay?" Aria spoke to Jake and gave him a heartwarming smile.

Jake who had calmed down a bit grabbed Aria's hand startling her as he stared into her eyes and said "Aria, I promise I'll always protect you and will always be there for you.

I know I wasn't the best brother when we first moved and I wasn't there for you.

I'm sorry for that but I'll try my best to make it up to you. I love you."

Now it was Aria's turn to get emotional as she started to tear up. However, the only thing she could do was to hug her brother.

Just then their door opened as Elizabeth and Iris entered the room.

"Jake you're awake!" Iris screamed as she ran and jumped and latched onto Jake.

Jake hugged his sister as he spoke "Iris what's the matter, your big brother is here."

"Hmph, I was so worried about you and you were busy hugging Aria." Iris spoke with an angry look on her face.

"Iris, don't get jealous of your sister." Elizabeth smiled and spoke as she too went to check on Jake.

"Jake, are you feeling alright?" Elizabeth asked with concern as she hugged her son.

Jake hugged her back before speaking "Yes Mom, I had a nightmare that's all."

"It's alright son, mommy's here for you." Elizabeth spoke as she kissed his forehead.

"I was so worried about you but the doctor said that you were fine and were going to wake up soon."

"What do you mean doctor? I've only been asleep for a few hours" Jake asked in confusion.

"No Jake you've been asleep for almost two days." Elizabeth replied to Jake.
