A Risk To Fix It All

A/N: In my opinion, there are not enough good hope fanfics where hope, and only hope, goes back in time. "A Twist Through Time" is the best but it doesn't update enough. So, I'm gonna take one for the team and write this for all of us.

Hope was lost. She got her humanity back after a final battle between her and the people who cared about her. However, in the process, she created holes in almost all her relationships with those very people.

Now she lays here, on her knees, with everyone who cared about her around her, sobbing uncontrollably and shaking violently.

Finally, after a moment of stillness and no one knowing what to do, Josie, being the one who made the plan to subdue hope and turn her switch back on, was the first one to embrace her in Landon's absence.

"It's gonna be okay Hope, you're back and that's all that matters" said Josie in that tone she had always used with hope, so full of tenderness and care, but now there was a feeling of pity Hope got from her eyes that only served to help wreck her even further.

She didn't like being this way, so vulnerable and weak, especially not in front of so many people. Even still, there was nothing she could do. Her myriad of emotions kept shooting up her spine so violently that all her attempts to collect herself and tell everyone she was fine came crashing down.

Through it all, the only response to everyone she could muster was, "I'm so sorry." This, being the only words, she could seem to form, recurred so often Hope would look back and swear she was imitating a broken record.

There were 3 things that hurt Hope the most about this entire situation, the first being the fact that she killed Alaric Saltzman, the man who Hope grew to see as the closest thing she had to a father after her own father sacrificed himself for her. The second was more than one thing put together. She had daggered her own aunt Bex, turned Lizzie Saltzman against her will, and forced Josie to bring out her dark side even knowing how much she hated doing that.

She wanted the most for them to be angry at her, or even to reprimand her just once so she didn't have to feel the guilt gnawing at every fiber of her being. Which brings us to the thing that hurts Hope the absolute most. The sadness, pity, and regret in everyone's eyes when they looked at her.

It stabbed into her heart like a knife so painfully that she almost wanted to turn it all off again. However, she could never do that, not after they had done so much to bring her back.

Finally, after letting Josie hold her for God knows how long. Hope couldn't take it anymore. Using her tribrid speed, she vamp sped away at her absolute fastest away from everyone there.

Eventually after knowing she had escaped, she curled into a ball on the cold forest leaves and cried.

After more time passed, eventually a strong desire formed in Hope's mind. She wanted to fix it all. So much so that her magic started flowing uncontrollably, even to the point where it started to pulse around her.

By the time she had noticed and tried to control it, it had already exploded outwards, forming a crater with Hope nowhere to be seen.

When Hope awoke, she heard indistinct voices when suddenly the door opened to reveal… Stefan Salvatore?

Being the intelligent Mikaelson witch she was, she quickly discovered her powerful magic and strong desire must have sent her back in time.

At this moment Hope felt two emotions, euphoria and dread. No one knows how time works because no one has ever traveled it. What if even her appearance here right now wipes her from existence?

Her thoughts were cut short when suddenly Stefan spoke.

"Look what we have here." Stefan said in a tone that suggested indifference. Now Hope knew what point in history she appeared in. She heard all the stories about the enmity between her father and the Scooby gang, as the students call them so-

"Ahhh, good work Stefan, I dare say I'm starting to enjoy your compliance. You have found us a drink it seems." Said Klaus before vamp speeding and grabbing her. At this point her brain worked overtime to find a solution to this situation. She's completely immortal in this timeline where red oak doesn't exist, thus, making it hard to explain why she wouldn't die from blood extraction.

She also understood that this man in front of her was not the father she knew, growing up she heard all the stories about how evil her father was before she was born. Only her coming into the picture did he turn into the person she came to know.

Even still, part of her wanted to hug this man and cry into his arms, but the urgency of the situation helped her logical side overpower her needs.

"Wait! I wouldn't do that if I were you." She said before struggling in his hold making sure to only exert human strength.

"And why would that be luv? I suddenly most certainly feel oh so inclined to listen to your opinion" said Klaus with his trademark smirk and condescending tone mixed with such sarcasm Hope almost groaned out loud.

"I'm a witch, I could even say I'm more powerful than any other witch you can get your hands on. I could help you, just as long as you let me live." She made sure to phrase her words in a way that didn't give any more information than she wanted, however, also instill a need in Klaus to keep her alive. She wasn't sure yet if this was an alternate timeline or if she had gone back in her own time, so she had to be completely certain that whatever she did doesn't damage her or her loved one's existence.

Klaus, being the man he is, instantly felt his interest arise. He could also tell that she was telling the truth, hybrid hearing and all. Since what she said was true then there were several things, he could use her for, especially his hybrids. However, his paranoia quickly took over considering the strangeness of the situation.

So, he quickly pinned Hope against the wall and interrogated her with his playful and mischievous demeanor disappearing completely.

"Tell me, how did you get here? Who sent you? What are your plans?"

"Klaus don't kill the girl, she looks like a kid, besides she could be useful" Spoke Stefan trying to appeal to Klaus' more positive thoughts to keep the girl alive and still keep his cover.

"Shut up! Speak girl."

"I'm 18. What evil and nefarious plans could I possibly have? I just finished a large battle with myself against a dozen people and woke up here afterwards."

"Fine, however I know that you're aware who I am, Niklaus Mikaelson the immortal hybrid abomination. Why would you ever want to help me?" He could hear her heartbeat and knew she wasn't lying. That added with the fact he refused to believe any supernatural creature on this planet besides his father didn't fear him, he still had the habit of being overly skeptical.

"You tell me unkillable and genocidal as well as an incredibly powerful hybrid who could slaughter me and everyone I know." Deadpanned Hope, with a neutral expression, she also made the adjustment to disguise her fast heartbeat as fear instead of the affection she felt for her father by adding a little shiver to her body and making her feet move in an attempt to seem nervous.

Something she was sure her father's paranoid and very observative mind would be looking for in her, and she fully planned to use that to her advantage.

"Alright then, it's settled! You're going to assist me in any way you can whenever I ask from this point forward." Said Klaus, his cheery mood reappearing, as if he wasn't cold and murderous just moments before.

"You see, while I was already working with a powerful witch, now that I have two things will get a lot easier for me."

After coming downstairs Hope saw her aunt Rebekah and some foreign witch doing a spell. After a while of chanting, she seemed to have some sort of epiphany.

"I found it"

"So where would it be then?" Said Klaus as he came down the stairs.

"It doesn't work like that I get images, there's a girl with her friends."

"A dead girl with dead friends if I don't get my necklace!" Interrupted Rebekah rather pointedly.

"That witch is lying." Hope said, while moving to the center of the room to gather everyone's attention. She then waved her hand and threw Gloria against the wall. While she doesn't enjoy harming anyone, she has to build trust.

"And who the bloody hell are you?!" Yelled Rebekah while vamp speeding in front of her.

"Relax Rebekah, she is my new witch. But I will need you to explain what you mean luv." Said Klaus as he casually walked next to hope with a dangerousness underlying his tone.

"Locator spells don't work like that; she's hiding something from you. Let me do it myself and I'll find it."

"Well now it appears-" Started Klaus before vamp speeding and grabbing Gloria off the wall by the neck.

"You've outlived your usefulness." He finished before snapping her neck.

"Now get to it luv."

While Hope was a little shaken up, she didn't show it on the outside, she just gestured to Rebekah to come and finish the spell.

After the spell was finished, she said:

"I found it, it's in Mystic Falls. Also-" Hope then snapped her fingers and Stefan crumpled with a broken neck.

"The human doppelganger is alive."
