Entering the arena, they were immediately transported to another area like one of those VR menu screens... except you can see your actual body and move like one.
The menu had a few buttons that were in front of them, [Play], [Options], and [Leave].
"Cool... it's even more advanced than the ones at home!" Bennett looked to his left, "Oh, right! David... are we... using this for... y'know?"
The two looked at each other and grinned at the same time as if they were twins understanding each other's thoughts.
"Yep... though it costs a few credits, the benefits we gain from this make it all worth it!" David replied with a nod, unable to keep the small smirk on his face as he talked.
As they made their statements about training here, Bennett disappeared into shards of light, bringing him to his own private 'server' of sorts.
'So he's gone, meaning that the lobbies can only hold one person... let's just test this out then.' David pressed the play button and also disappeared into shards of light.
Appearing in another area, David wanted to look around but felt that his head was being held, and he could turn at all, only looking at the menu in front of him.
There were actually multiple options in front of him, stuff like the terrain, enemies, time limit, practice mode, evolutions, etc.
"Hmmm... I don't have much time, but let's see how I can work with this." David went on a tapping frenzy, looking for the right options.
He settled for a plain grassland, a time limit of 5 minutes, and 10 peak second-tier armored goblins.
In a flash, the world turned white, as if it was in a loading process.
Then, it revealed a grassland before him, first, there was a small bin of weapons in front of him. Picking the sword, 10 armed goblins appeared in front of him, ready to pounce and kill.
The goblins were actually in a formation as there were 2 shielders, 3 sword-wielding goblins, 2 mage goblins, 1 white-robed goblin, and 2 archer goblins, from the front line to back in that order.
In a split moment, both forces released their auras, measuring each other up.
As there were multiple peak second tiers, even if David was much stronger than the average peak second tier, he couldn't compete with ten of them at the same time.
As he was outnumbered, David had moved first, trying to take out the rear forces first. He jumped as soon as the rear archers and mages shot first, using his left hand to cast two fireballs, with his amazing control, they were able to hit the two archer goblins in the back. He was able to kill those two in one shot as they were the weakest in terms of magic defense, as even the healer couldn't do anything about it.
*Fwoosh*
'Now for the mages and it should be good.' David turned his head and tilted it to dodge one of the stabs made towards his head.
He slashed, cutting off a few fingers of the goblin that was in front of him. Kicking him away, he pointed at the healer and released an orb of lightning, shooting it towards the goblin.
*Bzzzt*
As everything had happened in a second, their second pillar died in one spell. The goblin was harshly electrocuted into a crisp of black ash.
David could even feel the fear radiating off the goblins.
'Isn't this supposed to be virtual? This world is somewhat comparable to Earth, but even then, this is quite realistic now...?' David shook his head, he was still in a fight, he needs to focus.
Taking advantage of the goblin's trembling fear, he slashed his weapons towards the two sword goblins and decapitated them.
He grabbed the shields the two goblin tanks were holding and pierced their hearts, leaving only the mages left.
Though the mages had higher mana, which also means their intelligence is heightened so that they could have such control, seeing how David had slaughtered their entire group in a flash, their legs were trembling as they fell onto the ground.
David, who was still standing, did not give them any sympathy or arrogance. He slowly walked up to them with a sword in his hand.
*Shing!*
Two goblin heads rolled on the ground.
Confirming the number of dead bodies, David was teleported out of the area, back to the menu screen.
Seeing that he could still open up the system in this place, he looked at his exp bar which seemed to move a bit, though they seem to only give the same amount as a mid or high ranking second-tier monster as they were slightly suppressed in this arena.
"I see... I should try fighting third-tier monsters. Not like I would die anyway." David saw that he had only spent 2 minutes in the entirety of everything that just happened.
Returning to the same terrain, he changed the time limit to 15 minutes and placed 5 third-tier hobgoblins, and entered the grassland.
Going with the same process, he picked the shortsword, and the hobgoblins appeared.
When they appeared, David was slightly surprised at their shape. They greatly resembled humans, with the colors being their skin color and abnormal hair color as well.
The five hobgoblins all had different roles, there was one shielder, one sword wielder, one archer, one mage, and one healer. Overall, it was quite balanced that even David felt that he might have some troubles fighting them.
David could also feel the qualitative change in their auras, though their stats weren't as balanced as his, their strengths have surpassed his attributes if they were talking about certain stats.
He gulped in excitement and made the first move.
*Boom!*
Instead of letting them use the area around them as an advantage, David slammed his palm into the ground, forming 4 large walls around both of them, causing them to be contained in a small space.
Seeing their slightly surprised, but cautious expressions, David had also gotten more serious from their status as third-tier monsters alone.
David tapped the wall lightly, getting the hobgoblin's attention. There was a small rumble, and spike began to appear on the walls, piercing everywhere except a small area around David.
*Kshh!*
When the spike had crumbled due to their large mana consumption, there was a bunch of blood everywhere.
There was only one casualty, which was the mage who was too slow to react. The others had injuries but were quickly healed by the healer after it healed itself from David's attack.
"Not... BAD!" David dashed towards them. He wanted to practice with them, even if they were artificial with some questionable qualities, he was going to milk their experience in both system form and true fighting experience form as well.
A shield quickly appeared in front of him, blocking his downward slash. Seeing that the other hobgoblin behind him was getting ready to slash him in the air, David kicked himself off the shield, stepping onto the wall behind him.
He jumped off the wall, going over the shield hobgoblin, and went straight for the archer.
Seeing that David was jumping towards him, he grinned at his 'stupidity' and shot his crossbow at him.
Since David was only using a shortsword, he only needed to use one hand to hold the sword. He grabbed the arrow in front of him, threw it at the healer, and quickly used his right hand to slashed the archer goblin from the should down to the waist, giving him a deep and bloody cut.
From the blood loss and/or shock, the archer fell onto the ground which David grabbed the corpse and threw it behind him to delay the two hobgoblins behind him.
"Now for the healer." David ran and punched the healer in the barrier close to its face, shocked at the vibrations, making it shake.
He didn't give it any chance to recover and used all of his strength to release a full-powered slash at the same place he punched, obliterating its barrier and cutting off its head.
The last two hobgoblins see that their other companions are dead, but seeing as how they were trapped in the four walls around them, they charged at him without any fear.
Even David could feel the rage, fear, and instinct flowing out of them, affecting the battlefield in a slightly animalistic way.
Responding with a roar, David went for the shielder first. Instead of fully charging through it, he sidestepped, lightly pressing his fingers across the shield, a small spike instantly pierced the heart of the shielder.
*Ching!*
His right hand blocked the strike from the hobgoblin swordsman.
Since David was able to cross-rank kill monsters within a rank above him, he was able to keep up with the hobgoblin, in fact, with David's speed and stamina, he was able to slowly push the hobgoblin back.
*Shing! Shing! Shing!*
In a fury of clashes and slashes, both of them had sustained some cuts all over their body. Since his opponent was a hobgoblin and not a troll, they weren't able to regenerate, unlike David's partial bloodline of a dragon which constantly helps him grow in battle and regenerate at the same time.
"Come at me! Let's end this here!" David roared at the swordsman.
The two charged at each other and swing their sword at each other at the same time.
*Shing!*
Pieces of lights cracked as the hobgoblin fell on the floor, dying.
Doing a slash in the air, David cleans off the blood and sheathes his sword before returning to the menu screen.
He looked at his exp bar again and saw it grow quite well as it gave quite a bit more than a peak second tier, maybe on the level on one of those monsters who just barely reacher the third tier in terms of the exp he gained.
He looked at the time and saw that he spent a total of 7 minutes, not including the other 2 minutes he spent on the first game.
He left the array and waited for Bennett to return.
