Lex smiled wickedly. “Perhaps Tonio should work with you, as well.”

“I’ll pass, thanks. Dirk said you called me a lapsed warlock. You’re right, I am. I was never all that great at magic.” He chuckled. “If I had been, I could have defended myself against the wizard whocursed me and I wouldn’t be in this situation. On the other hand, now that I’ve met Dirk…” He hugged him. “Perhaps, no, definitely, I’m glad I lost that battle.”

“If you don’t mind,” Lex replied with a knowing smile, “I’m going to head home. We all need our rest.”

“Uh-huh. Yep. We’re definitely going to bed. Whether we rest is another thing,” Bay grinned. “Sleepwell, Lex. And thanks for being so patient with me.”

“You’re welcome. Dirk’s as important to you as he is to me, I think, so I did my best to rein in my occasional annoyance.”

Bay rolled his eyes. “Mostly.”
