Chapter 51

“This is quite as spread,” Reni said when she managed to get his attention. There were plates of mini meatballs and kebabs on skewers, various kinds of cheese, crackers, and cubed breads for the dips, small spring rolls, and several sweets.

When she put some cheese on a cracker and began to nibble it, Dirk said, “I didn’t think vampires ate.”

“We can, although it’s rare that we do. After a few centuries, it gets boring. This is good, by the way. It goes well with the wine.”

“Now that, I knew you drank,” Dirk replied just as he spotted Felan talking to Bay, and Nina nowhere in sight. “Damn it,” he muttered.

“They need a push. Well, Nina does. Let me see what I can do.”

Reni found Nina out back, sitting on the porch steps. “What’s wrong?” she asked, dropping down beside her. “You look like you lost your best friend.”

“I’m trying to figure out something.”

“About Felan?”

“That obvious, huh?”

Reni nodded. “You like him, right?”
