Lex nodded as he eased himself to his feet again. “Nina, if you would…”

She hurried to his side, slipping one arm around his waist. “I’ll heal you, and then Tonio. I presume he looks as bad as you do.”

After glancing at Reni, Lex said quietly, “A bit worse, but like me, he will survive.”

Reni was on her feet seconds later, racing from the room.

“I’ll meet you in his room, once you’re finished with Lex,” Mattie said to Nina before going after Reni.

“I hope to hell Lex is telling the truth,” Felan said when Lex and Nina were gone. “If he wasn’t. If Tonio dies.”

“Nina and Mattie won’t let that happen,” Dirk said, obviously trying his best to believe it.

“Nina’s going to be drained,” Felan protested. “Between healing me, then Lex. And you and Bay, earlier.”

“She’s a strong woman, Felan,” Bay told him.

“But she’s only a—”

Camilla pointed a finger at him. “Do not go there. It demeans her—and you for even thinking it.”
