Chapter 37: Fury and Wisdom
Now that the fortress was alerted to Alyssa and Derek’s escape, they cast aside all manner of deception. The deep rumblings from the bells and drums echoed throughout the halls, and they could also hear the shouts and hurried footsteps of soldiers. And as they weaved their way through the various corridors, they were getting closer and closer to where the portal was located.
“It should be just this way,” Alyssa said and as they rounded the corner, they emerged into a room filled with several soldiers armed with crossbows aimed in their direction waiting. Without hesitation they fired, but Alyssa was able to easily block them. “Go back!” She shouted to Derek.
“But what about…” Derek started saying pointing to the portal behind the many crossbowmen. Several other soldiers then began pouring into the room.
