Chapter 36: Stealth and Shadow

Aside from the footsteps of soldiers, or hushed voices of what appeared to be more Siad leisurely strolling through the corridors, it seemed like the structure was fairly empty, or just sparsely inhabited. This made it relatively simpler for Alyssa and Derek to evade any potential threats, and when that was impossible that was what the disguises were for. The details on the inner workings of the fortress that the rats had acquired and relayed to Alyssa had been invaluable. The only part of their covert escape so far that was difficult was that they needed to ascend the fortress, and since they were on the lower levels it increased the likelihood that someone could find them, or discover that they had broken out of the dungeon.

“How much further do we have to go?” Derek whispered softly as he and Alyssa turned down another corridor filled with ornate pillars.

“I don’t have specifics, but I’ll know it when I see it.” Alyssa whispered back.
