29 The Present (2)

She was standing outside the manor when she heard an explosion coming from inside. Zhu Xiao Wan couldn't see what had happened but the sound of the explosion made her jumped up in fright before rushing in. She was worried, how could she not when there was a First Stage Cyan Spirit!

When Zhu Xiao Wan arrived at the battle place, she found a giant hole in the ground. It must be the explosion that created this. But before she could feel relieved, Zhu Xiao Wan saw Ning Rou Li and Ning Hai Heng having a hard time keeping up.

Ning Rou Li's and Ning Hai Heng's powers were much weaker than their opponent, hence they paired up. The Fifth Stage Green Spirit curled his lips into a cruel and vicious sneer.

"So what if you paired up? In front of me, you're still nothing but ants!" He then launched a fierce attack on them ruthlessly. But before the attack could hit them, Ning Su Cai dashed in to shield his younger siblings with his body.

At the same time, she felt a ferocious force coming at her.

"Wan Wan!!"

Zhu Xiao Wan felt herself being pushed to the ground and sensed someone on top of her. She opened her eyes only to she Zhu Xiao Qian's pale face, his eyes staring straight at her face as blood flowing out of his mouth. 'Why are you here!?'

"Big Brother!"

He forced himself to swallow the blood in his mouth, but seconds later, he rotated his head to the side and spewed out a mouthful of blood. Then he gasped heavily, trying to breathe but his face gradually turned purple from the lack of oxygen.

She panicked when she saw him lied on the cold ground trying hard to breathe. Zhu Xiao Wan tried to calm herself down as she knew that panicking would not help, but she couldn't.

Zhu Xiao Qian was hit by a brutal attack, it was enough to kill him. Suddenly, she felt something she had felt a long time ago - fear. The last time she felt fear was when she was lying on a laboratory table. Now, the fear she was feeling was the fear of losing someone dear. Zhu Xiao Qian was her only brother in both of her lives and the only kin she had left in this life. This was the first time she felt so helpless.

He was fine! He was completely fine! If it wasn't for her rushing in, he wouldn't be like this. He wouldn't need to shield her and sacrifice himself. It was all her fault!

She couldn't do anything to help him...

Her heart was swollen with pain as she watched her brother slowly lost his breath and closed his eyes. She gaped at him blankly.

He didn't just die like that, did he?

The people of the Lu Family kept on attacking the others and her. Countless attacks were thrown at her but it didn't strike her. There was an invisible barrier around her and the body of Zhu Xiao Qian. Whenever an attack hit the barrier, it would vanish as waves of black outlined the barrier for a second before it disappeared and returned to be invisible again.

"What the heck is that!?"

"No matter how much spirit we put in our strikes, it wouldn't break!"

She looked up and saw the two siblings clutching their eldest brother's body tight; Ning Rui Li burst into tear and she cried out loud. Ning Rui Yu stood in front of them, covered in blood while defending his children; he was mad, his eldest son had died in front of him. At another spot, Fu Yan Xin was lying on the broken ground. Her eyes were red as tears streamed down while she watched her children, her eldest son with grief, then her heavy eyelids shut.

Zhu Xiao Wan climbed onto her feet from her kneeling position.

She always enjoyed eating foods Fu Yan Xin cooked because she could taste it. Because she always enjoyed her foods, Fu Yan Xin put a lot of effort into improving her cooking for her. She didn't interact with Ning Rui Yu and Ning Su Cai very often, but she was aware that they were protecting her and her brother from the day they took them in; despite knowing that they were taking a huge risk that could cost them their lives. Ning Rou Li and Ning Hai Heng were really nice and friendly, they always came to play with her and gave her many gifts and did many others things that siblings would do together. It was a peaceful life, everything she'd ever want.

But of course, everything good would come to an end one day.

She sighed, 'It looks like I have to use it before my birthday.'

Black mist slowly appeared as it swirled around her, causing the people around to place their attention on her. The aura she emitted was cold and gloomy as she swept her icy gaze over the Lu Family's people (subordinates). The First Stage Cyan Spirit creased his brows as he noticed something was wrong and began to strike at her. Lianzhou immediately appeared in her hand as she blocked his strike and counterattacked. With Lianzhou appearance, the air around her was still cold as it also became eerie. After her first counterattack, Ning Rui Yu felt to the ground.

"Father, you can't leave us, too!!" Ning Rou Li wailed while Ning Hai Heng was silent. The slothfulness that was always on his face was nowhere to be found as it was replaced with fear, even though it wasn't obvious.

She turned to them and swung her scythe, the Fifth Stage Green Spirit split into half in an instant. While the two siblings focused on the dead bodies of their family, the others except the First Stage Cyan Spirit gulped as some of them shivered at the sight. The First Stage Cyan Spirit's face turned grim.

All of them inhaled and bravely charged at her. Swinging her black scythe and using Lianzhou's power, she fought with them.
