Huo Yao finished her work when it was almost midnight and rubbed the space between her brows.
Since her children weren't at home, she didn't want to go back anymore.
She skillfully lit a cigarette and took a long breath.
She seldom smoked after giving birth to her babies, but a box of cigarettes and a lighter always remained in her bag.
Today, she suddenly wanted to smoke. She took a moment to look at her messages.
Every message was related to work. She replied to the important ones and ignored the others.
When she looked at the message from an unknown number, her lips twitched. She had never encountered anyone as annoying and dramatic as this person.
She replied to this person, saying, "Piss off," and then went to shower after putting down the phone.
The next day, Huo Yao went to Capital University at the urging of Principal Rong's phone call.
As soon as she entered the principal's office, she saw two other people also sitting inside.
One was the dean of the 'Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering' department, Professor Chu Sufen, and the other was also a very senior professor from the same department, Professor Ming Hao.
Both of them had taught her when she was a student in their department.
Principal Rong became happy upon seeing her, "Student Huo, come inside quickly, take a seat. We were waiting for you."
Huo Yao entered and sat in an empty chair in the corner, then acknowledged everyone present, "Principal Sir Rong, Professor Chu, Professor Ming."
Prof. Chu and Prof. Ming also smiled at her, saying, "Long time no see, Student Huo."
When they first learned that Principal Rong had invited this young girl to become a professor in their department, they were surprised but didn't object.
After all, she was a genius who had completed her four years of courses, master's, and Ph.D. within two years, setting a new record for their school.
All teachers loved to teach smart students, and so did they. Almost every teacher in their department had adored this student very much back then.
Till now, their department's students have been tormented by her outstanding academic record.
Principal Rong began the discussion about Huo Yao's joining, "Student Huo, we have already discussed the terms of your appointment on the phone, so we don't need to go over it again. You just need to follow the normal procedure and sign some documents."
As he spoke, he pushed a prepared file towards her, saying, "Please read these papers carefully and then sign."
Huo Yao nodded, familiar with these formalities as she had completed similar procedures many times.
However, she didn't mention this. She finished reading the documents in just one or two minutes and then signed them with cool and smooth actions.
This left the present professors dumbfounded. They hadn't even blinked, but she was already done reading and signing.
Principal Rong asked, "Student Huo, did you read these documents thoroughly?"
Huo Yao nodded slightly. She remembered every article. She blinked in confusion at their silent stares and asked, "Is there any problem, Principal Sir?"
Principal Rong's lips twitched seeing her puzzled look, "Nothing. Do you want to start teaching from today or would you prefer to begin from tomorrow?"
"From tomorrow. Just send me a schedule of my classes," Huo Yao replied.
Principal Rong nodded. He had previously offered that she only had to give lectures two days a week, and she had agreed to come to their school on those terms.
After saying her goodbyes, Huo Yao left.
Today, she hadn't come with her car but with her motorcycle, which she had parked in a relatively quiet place.
As she approached her motorcycle, she heard some rough voices cursing at someone, apparently a young girl and a girl's sobbing voice begging them to let her go.
Huo Yao casually took a look but, upon seeing the trembling and sobbing girl, she raised her eyebrow.
Ah, she recognized her. Should she intervene or not? In the end, she chose to intervene and lazily approached them, saying, "Aren't you all ashamed of bullying a little girl with so many people?"
The girl started to choke up from crying and begging simultaneously. Seeing Huo Yao, she widened her already big eyes even more as she hiccupped.
She looked somewhat comical in her frightened state, causing Huo Yao's lips to twitch. Why was this girl so cowardly?
Just as the thugs were about to yell at Huo Yao for not minding her own business, they heard the girl start to cry even more loudly.
"Ah, sister-in-law, what are you doing here? Go away quickly. They are very bad guys, and we can't defeat them," she stammered through her tears.
Huo Yao's head began to throb from the girl's wailing noise. She felt an urge to scold someone, so she kicked the thug in front of her while growling at Ye Nian Nian, "Shut up, or I will beat you first."
Ye Nian Nian, frightened by Huo Yao's outburst, hiccupped even more but managed to stop her wailing.
