Chapter 59: Surprise

He had severely underestimated just how many people wanted to acquire a scroll. Barely a week had passed and the scrolls had already been sold out twice.

He was forced to create more each time it happened. The best part about everything was that the cost of making a scroll was far below the amount it was was sold at. For each scroll he sold, he could use the money to make a minimum of ten more.

Of course, the scrolls weren't cheap. Such a device that outclassed it's competitors couldn't be sold at low prices. The hologram function of the scroll removed any manner of hesitation in purchasing it.

Sora could only smile as more and more people purchased one or multiple scrolls for themselves and others.

"You look you're in a good mood." Zatanna commented, looking at Sora who had a small smile on his face.

"You could say that." He answered vaguely as he stared at the prompt in front of him.

[Magic Craftsmanship has leveled up!]

After reaching level 44 and level 47 in Magic Theory and Rune Magic respectively, he was confident enough to begin his project.

A magical weapon that represented his thirst for knowledge.

He looked at the small stick in his hand that had multiple runes carved into it. Despite how unassuming it looked, it was a weapon, the first product of his new skill.

[Item: Minor Wand Of Telekinesis]

[Durability: 100%/100%]

[Type: Magical Item]

[A wand that grants the user minor telekinetic abilities.]

He pointed it towards Zatanna as she felt a force trying to pull her upwards. She raised a brow as she stared at the stick pointing towards her.

"You're making trinkets now?" She asked dryly yet actually impressed as the force acting on her disappeared.

She had seen him tinkering with it when he first started but she didn't know what he was making. She wasn't knowledgeable of the workings of runes so it was a bit lost on her.

"Not exactly. This is just a taste of what I can do. I plan on making something much more awe inspiring than this." Sora said, tossing the stick to her.

"What am I supposed to do with this?" Zatanna asked, catching it as Sora shrugged.

Now that he had acquired this skill, a lot of things were now seeming possible. He had a few ideas that he would now be able to implement to grow his repertoire.

"Before I forget, how far have you gotten with the grimoire?" Sora asked her as she shook her head.

"It's not that simple. It's like a giant dictionary that never ends. I mean I've learnt a lot from it but I'm only just beginning to actually scratch the surface of it." She said with a tired sigh.

"That's to be expected. After all, it was Aldous' personal grimoire. Though, I don't doubt that you would be able to study it with time." He spoke as her mood lifted a bit.

"Though, it doesn't mean that you can't still get stronger through other means." He said as a vial of glowing blue liquid appeared in his palm.

She looked confusedly at the potion as he held it to her.

"What do yo-"

"Do you trust me?" He asked, interrupting her.

She stared at the vial in his hand for a few seconds before looking to his face. With a resolute face, she nodded as she took it from his outstretched palm.

She held it delicately in her hand before pouring its content down her throat. Silence reigned as she swallowed the liquid fully.

Less than a second after she finished, she felt a jolt through her entire being. Her body felt uncomfortably hot as her mana fluctuated rapidly.

This continued for a a while, her body temperature increasing as her mana now surged outward. A bright blue light emanated from her, causing Sora to cover his eyes.

The blue light bathed the room for a moment before it began to die down. By the time it died down and her form was now visible, Sora couldn't help but blink in wonder.

He had reproduced something similar to the evolution potion Aldous left for him, though it's effects were greatly reduced. It's also lacked the never ending evolution that he now possessed due to it.

Her mana reserve had more than tripled, granted it was nowhere near his own but it was still impressive.

'I think it's starting to seem more like a shortcut to a complete makeover.' He thought as he looked at Zatanna.

Though his appearance had changed a bit after his first evolution, he didn't think Zatanna would go through the same thing.

Her black hair seemed smoother and silkier as it grew quite a bit, now reaching her back. Her skin had a soft and delicate look to it. She had grown an inch taller, now almost the same height as Sora himself.

'It's like she was hit with all the positive parts of puberty.' He thought, shaking his head as he looked away from her now slightly more developed body.

Zatanna's closed eyes opened as she blinked in confusion.

"What happened?" She asked, her eyes widening a second later as she felt herself brimming with mana.

"That potion…" She started, trailing off as Sora spoke.

"Consider it a gift for all you've done." He said, his voice taking a soft tone as he spoke.

Zatanna looked astonished as she observed herself, her eyes softening noticing his tone. He was still getting used to getting attached to people again but he had made remarkable progress.

Before Sora could say anything more, she tackled him in a hug, giving him a muffled 'Thank you'.

He patted her hair gently as she was in his embrace.

'It really became softer.' He thought, feeling the hair as Zatanna gained a slightly flustered look on her face.

Night had come and Sora stood at the top of one of the tall buildings in Tokyo, looking down at the city.

"Care to explain what you're doing in my city?" Sora asked, not moving as Batman walked out of the shadowy corner of the roof.

He had sensed the man long before he got close, his presence only sparking curiosity in him.

"We need to talk." The dark knight spoke in a strange manner.

"That's your favorite line, isn't it?" Sora asked rhetorically as he finally turned to face him, using analyze on the man out of curiosity.

[Name: Bruce Wayne/Batman]

[Race: Human]

[Title: The Dark Knight]

[Fealty: Justice League]

[Health: 100%/100%]

[Batman is the alias of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist who resides in Gotham City. He is a billionaire playboy by day and Gotham's protector at night.]

[Emotions: Remorse]

[Note: He is your father.]

'Well that's a surprise.' He thought, barely keeping his eyes from widening at the added info.

'That raises the question, does he know?' He thought, thinking back to all his interactions with the man.

He was aware of Sora's brutality and merciless nature in dealing with things.

Not attempting to take him to prison despite that.

Helping him jumpstart his business by getting him a business license.

Batman had a soft spot for orphans and those he considered close, proven by how he had taken in so many robins.

"What do you want?" Sora asked.

Though he was now aware of the fact that Bruce Wayne was his father, it barely made a difference to him.

What he didn't expect was for the man to remove his cowl, a resolute look on his face.

"I'm sure you already figured out my secret identity by now." Bruce said, the cowl hanging off.

"What makes you so sure? For all you know, you may have just exposed your identity to me when I didn't have a clue." Sora asked

"For one, you don't seem even a bit surprised." Bruce said, to which Sora stayed silent.

"Secondly, you're just like me in a way. You like to know just about everything about who you're dealing. You prepare countermeasures for each scenario you think possible." He continued but Sora remained silent, causing Bruce to let out a sigh.

"There's no easy way to say this so I'll just say it. I'm your father." He finished as silence reigned on the roof.
