Jean walked down the lively hallway towards his classroom. The past week had been like heaven to him. There was no nagging father that compared him to his perfect cousin, no harassment, and no abuse.
Perhaps, this was the first time in his life when he felt at peace. His mother, Alison, had threatened his father that she would go directly to his parents and announce a divorce if he showed his face in front of Jean again.
She even went as far as to say that she would spread the news to their circle of friends and tell them that he was a loser with an inferiority complex.
Elijah, Jean's father, cared about his face so much that Alison's threat gripped him with fear. He knew that his wife wasn't bluffing for he knew that there were very few things she didn't dare to do. The arrogant man had no choice but to take two steps back in order to pacify her.
