Yes, Lecturer Merrin had been a witch longer than we’d been alive and she was a powerful witch and lecturer, but that also meant that she had known Grand Priestess Celestria for a long time too. I had no idea of knowing how she might react if she knew the truth.
“Bri, Merrin’s right,” Zoe sighed. “If we are going to have a chance at stopping this, we need a more seasoned witch on our side.”
Zoe’s words made sense. I knew they did, but still I trembled at the thought of telling my mentor that her most respected Grand Priestess was really a serial murderer and an all round crappy person.
“It’s time to share your burden,” Merrin insisted, and when she reached for my hand once more I felt a welcoming warmth seep into my fingers.
It’s time, my daughter. The Goddess’s sweet voice sounded in the back of my mind, growing stronger. The clenching in my gut began to ease off, but I still felt nauseous at the thought of telling the truth.
