Battle Training

"It's time for Battle Training!" yelled All Might after all the students had made their way to the training grounds.

"What'd you think?" said Tobias to Kyoka whose hero costume had also changed.

Her hero costume was relatively simple in the canon with a black leather jacket, headphones, and boots with amps. Now, however, her hero costume was much better. She had additional amps on her shoulders with pitch shifters on her forearms that allowed her to make her sound blasts higher or lower in frequency, and bass-boosted boots for more powerful low pitches. The color scheme of her costume had also changed slightly with additional blue accents on her outfit while the red markings on her face remained unchanged.

When Kyoka was designing her costume, she showed it to Tobias who suggested the changes to add more versatility to her outfit since her original design was pretty one-dimensional. Tobias' costume, on the other hand, had no real special specifications besides extra pockets in the coat for his cards and extra durability. But even those pockets would be made irrelevant once he was able to create a certain item permanently.

"I like it. It does look a little villainy though." said Kyoka.

"Yeah, and this is before the changes. It used to look even more villainy than now, but I like it. It makes me kinda mysterious don't you think? Imagine it, a foggy alleyway where villains are committing crimes, and then out of nowhere a hat-wearing stranger appears, he looks up and all they see is a white mask. It gave me the chills just thinking about it." said Tobias.

"I will admit it does look slightly mysterious, but your talking will probably ruin that. Unless you're going to be a chuuni in the future still?" she said with a teasing smile.

"Alright, eyes up front." said Tobias.

"Everyone's looking good!" said All Might with a thumbs up.

"Sensei! This is the same field as the one that was used in the entrance exam. Will we be performing cityscape maneuvers again?" said Ida whose costume was very cool, reminiscent of a knight or a Power Ranger.

"Nope! You'll be moving on to step two! Indoor Anti-Personnel Battle Training! Villain battles are most commonly seen outdoors, but statistically, most villains are more likely to appear indoors. The cleverest villains out there lurk indoors. Anyways, you'll now be split into villain teams and hero teams and face off in two-on-two indoor battles!"

"Oh, two on two villains vs heroes, that sounds like fun." mumbled Tobias.

So no basic training?" asked Asui.

"Practical experience is the best basic training!"

"How do we win?"

"How are the teams split up?'

"How fabulous is my cape?"

"Please slow down a sec, my quirk isn't super hearing! Here's the deal. Villains will be hiding a nuclear weapon in the hideout. And the heroes have to go and take care of it. Heroes have a limited amount of time to either capture the villains or secure the weapon. The villains have to either capture the heroes or protect the weapon until the time is up." explained All Might.

"Just like those American movies my dad likes." said Tobias.

"Oh right. I remember watching those at your house when we were young." said Kyoka.

"Your partners will be decided by drawing lots!" said All Might taking a box out of nowhere.

"Is that really the best way?!" asked Ida.

"Makes sense, pros often have to team up with other heroes whom they might not know during emergencies." said Midoriya.

"Good, let's get to it!" said All Might before the class lined up to draw a lot.

When it was Tobias' turn, he drew a lot with the letter G and when Kyoka went she also managed to get the letter G.

"Hey, looks like we're partnered together. Luck of the draw." said Tobias, who even though he had a mask on, Kyoka could tell he was smiling.

"A little unfair though don't you think?" she asked.

"Well luck is a part of life too, so we can't really do anything about it. And besides, it's not like we've actually tried fighting as a team before."

"That is true. Okay, let's win this thing. But try not to finish the exercise as fast as possible, okay? This is good training for the future, and especially for me."

"You got it. I'll try to play support for you."

"You don't have to go that far, just take it slow. Also, it'd be a shame if you crushed our classmate's morale before we even got to be pro heroes."

"Haha, true."

"Moving on! First up are these!" said All Might before pulling two balls with the letter A for the hero team and the letter D for the villain team. The hero team was Midoriya and Uraraka and the villain team was Bakugo and Tenya.

"This should be an interesting one." said Tobias.

"I agree. Especially since that Bakugo kid seems to dislike Midoriya."

"Dislike, more like hate. He basically goes berserk each time he sees Midoriya. Which means he'll go all out and ignore Ida's plan to fight Midoriya 1-on-1. Not a good quality in a hero."

"The villain team goes in first! The timer starts in five minutes when the hero team sneaks in. The rest of us will watch via CCTV. This is practical experience, so go all out. Don't hold back! Though I will stop you if you take things too far." explained All Might before the villain team went inside, the hero team stayed where they were, and the rest of the class went into the basement where the monitors were.

"Well, that went exactly as I predicted."

"Worse. Bakugo went berserk the entire time and cost them the match."

"Not entirely, he still kept some rationality when he fought. If he had gone berserk, he would've hit Midoriay with that big explosion but he aimed it slightly off him. It's more like his ego is too big for his own good. On the other hand, Midoriya really is observant, for him to know exactly how Bakugo would act and fight. But his inexperience in controlling his quirk almost cost them the match as well. If he was able to control it more, the match would've been over from the beginning." said Tobias.

"Good, Tobias! I couldn't have put it better myself. But the V.I.P. in this battle was Ida! Tobias, do you know why?"

"Pass, sensei. Momo-chan, you answer." said Tobias.

"Because he was able to adapt the most. As Tobias said earlier, Bakugo was pretty much berserk and hell-bent on a personal vendetta against Midoriya, not to mention using overly destructive attacks indoors. Midoriya's performance was similar to Bakugo's, while Uraraka lost focus when she could've taken the bomb and her final attack was too reckless, especially if the bomb was real.

Ida on the other hand actually created a counter-strategy to the potential plays the hero team could do but was slow on the uptake in the end. The only reason the hero team won was because the training had exploitable constraints." she said before the class fell into a stunned silence.

"I-I'd also add that Ida was a bit too stiff, but yes you're correct." said All Might, flabbergasted at her explanation, while giving a thumbs up.

"We've got to start at the bottom and work up! And if we don't earnestly cheer each other on, we'll never be top heroes!" she said with her hands on her hips.

"Well said, Momo! Now, let's move buildings since this one is unusable." said All Might.

After two more rounds, it was finally Tobias' and Kyoka's turn as heroes while Momo and Todoroki played the villains.

'Seems like the butterfly effects are already showing changes. It shouldn't have been them teaming up with each other, but I'm glad because that makes this so much more interesting. Not that the butterfly effect would matter much to me since I've only seen the anime up till here. From now, everything is a mystery.' thought Tobias as a smile came to his face.

"You're smiling because you're excited aren't you?" said Kyoka.

"You know me so well. Yes, I am excited. Two top students with interesting quirks. I mean could it get any more fun than that?"

"Are you going to use that item you've been working on?" she asked.

"Maybe, but I don't think so. It's too early to unveil it, besides I'll only be able to use it for a short while. I think I'll finally use a monster card." he said smiling.

"Oh, already?"

"That's how excited I am. But that's beside the point, right now we need a plan. Momo is very smart so she's more than likely going to be with the bomb and boobytrap the whole place. Todoroki has some pride in himself and his quirk, so he's probably going to try and take us out in one go. My guess is he'll use his quirk to freeze us in place by catching us off guard."

"I can use my quirk to find him with my echolocation. But you'll need to guard me while I use it."

"Good idea. Based on their location we can do one of two plans. Blink to the floor Momo is on and surprise her, or set a trap for Todoroki and then blitz Momo."

"Okay."

"Hero Team, start!" said All Might in their earpieces.

Tobias and Kyoka entered the building from a first-floor window before Kyoka began to use her echolocation while Tobias had his deck of cards at the ready with one on hand.

"Found them. Momo is on the top floor and it looks like there are traps around the floor. Todoroki is coming down the stairs right now but he's taking his time. He's on the fourth floor and should be here in about 1 minute." said Kyoka after a few moments.

"Good job. Here, take this card. It'll stop one attack on its own. Scale the outside of the building and try to make your way to Momo, I'll set up a trap for Todoroki and make my way to you once I'm done with him. If I take too long here, signal to me and I'll blink to you so we can rush Momo, or if you find the opportunity, take it."

"Okay, good luck." she said before taking the card I offered and going outside the window.

'Time to try out some cards I've been wanting to use.' thought Tobias before going towards the stairwell and throwing down a card at the exit. The card touched the ground, expanded to cover more area, and then went invisible. Tobias also threw another one down right where he was standing as well as on the ceiling. Having set enough traps, Tobias took out an enhancement card and activated it, causing a light to shine over his body.

"Oh, this feels nice." said Tobias with eyes closed before they snapped open and he quickly moved backward.

CRASH

A giant pillar of ice had fallen through the spot where he was moments earlier.

"I'm surprised you didn't just freeze the entire building." said Tobias as he saw Todoroki had fallen through the ceiling.

"Mm, Yaoyorozu advised against it."

"I think you just wanted to have a 1-v-1 with me."

"Maybe." he said before sending a wave of ice towards Tobias who dodged it before throwing a card at him.

BOOM

Unfortunately, Todoroki had managed to raise an ice wall to block the card. Tobias seeing this threw five cards all at once before rushing the wall.

CRACK

The wall broke and disintegrated right as Tobias threw a kick that Todoroki managed to put up an arm to block. Pushed back by the force of the kick, Todoroki flew towards the wall and was about to crash into it, but managed to regain his balance midair and flipped to land feet first on the wall, creating ice to cushion the landing before landing on the ground.

"Tch, I thought you were a ranged user."

"I'm full of surprises." he said right as the card under Todoroki flipped over revealing a purple card. Todoroki seeing this tried to jump away, but was unfortunately not fast enough. Black chains appeared from the card and wrapped up Todoroki like a mummy before dragging him into a coffin that shut as soon as he was in it. Seeing this Tobias went up to the coffin and wrapped it in the capture tape, signaling that Todoroki was out of the match.

"Too bad he destroyed the other two unintentionally. What a waste of stamina. Kyoka, Todoroki is captured. I'm on my way up." said Tobias.

"No need. I've captured the bomb." she said.

"Hero team wins!" said All Might.

While Tobias was fighting Todoroki, Kyoka was scaling the building while using her ear jacks to listen to what Momo was doing. Seeing as she hadn't moved from the room where the bomb was, Kyoka entered the building on the floor right below.

CRASH

"That must be Todoroki. I have to hurry." she said before making her way to right below where Momo was. Connecting her ear jacks to her pitch shifters before turning them to high, she pointed them right at the ceiling where Momo was standing and let out a high-frequency sound blast.

Momo had intelligently made some earplugs and was wearing them, but unfortunately, they weren't strong enough to stop the high-pitched sound that caused her to pass out. And Kyoka seeing she passed out, went up the stairwell and into the room while avoiding all the traps Momo had set. First checking on her to make sure she was okay, Kyoka then went over to the bomb and grabbed it right as Tobias informed her Todoroki was captured.

"Well done, everyone no serious injuries apart from Midoriya's. Great teamwork, though! You all did great considering it was your first exercise. Change out of your costumes and head back to the classroom, I need to give Midoriya his evaluation." said All Might before running off.

"Nice job, Kyoka." said Tobias.

"Thanks. You too. But I only beat her because she underestimated my sound frequency. Next time, won't be so easy."

"No it won't, but that's the beauty of experiences like this. We fight and then we improve."

"You're right. Alright, go change, and let's go back to class."

"Ugh, more boring classes." said Tobias deflated from having to go back to class.

Sorry for the slightly late chapter, couldn't finish it in time. Also, I'm not that adept at writing fighting scenes, at least long ones, so bear with me as I get better, or at least try to. Let me know what you thought of the fight and Kyoka's new costume. I wanted an alternative option because her normal one is pretty basic, and I found that one on Google Images so shout out to the creator of that image.

Also, he can't make the item, which is a duel disk, permanently yet because there are so many let's say enchantments to it. It's a bracelet that changes to a duel disk which has infinite storage for his cards that lets him be connected to it with his mind so he knows exactly what cards and how many are in there as well as letting him create new ones without grabbing them but through the disk itself as well as being able to launch the cards or activate them right on the duel disk. Because of these enchantments, he can't make it permanently but by the Forest Training Arc, he should have it.
