Chapter 5

"There are some flowers you only see when you take detours." – Tanaka Seako

"Wait, I'm coming with you." I said while I grabbed my bag and walked towards the door

"What about rule number 4?" He said while I walked out the door in front of him

"Its volleyball practice, and besides I want to see you play. Everybody keeps going on about how you are such a good player, so I'm curious." I say while he closed our apartment door

"Fine." He mumbled while we walked towards Karasuno together.

"So why is your practice at 5:30?" I ask while we walk

"Because I'm not officially on the volleyball team." He said and my eyes widened

"Why not?"

"Because that idiot does not know how to receive a ball!" He said and I was quiet for a second before asking

"Why would someone else not being able to receive a ball effect you?"

"The ball bounced off his arms and then his face before flying towards the vice principal, and um yea..."

"Did it knock off his wig?" I ask and Kageyama's eyes widened

"How did you know?" He said and I started to laugh

"I knew it was a wig from the opening ceremony, so I figured if he was hit then maybe it fell off." I say then add "But if you are not on the volleyball team why are you practicing?"

"We have a 3 on 3 match, and if we win we get to join the volleyball club."

"What if you loose?" I ask while we get closer to the volleyball gym

"We wont." He says and I roll my eyes at the pride that is radiating off of him

Once we get to the volleyball gym I notice another person waiting there.

"You're late, Kageyama." I hear the orange haired boy say as we got closer

'I guess this must be the other one that knocked the wig off the Vice Principle.' I think to myself while Kageyama asks

"Yea, so why aren't you inside warming up?"

"The door is locked, Bakageyama." The boy says and I start to laugh

"Why are you laughing?" Kageyama asks

"B-Bakageyama." I say through my giggles and I notice Kageyama start to turn red

"That's a prefect nickname for him." I say to the boy then added "Sorry I haven't introduced my name is L/N F/N." I say with a smile

"Oh, my name is Hinata Shoyo." He said with a smile then looked at my volleyball bag "Do you play volleyball?" He asked and I nodded

"Yea I am an Ace."

"Really? That's what I want to be, just like the Tiny Giant!" He said excitedly

"I remember him, wasn't he the ace that was 5'5 and lead Karasuno to Nationals?" I say and Hinata nods

"I was really excited to come to this school, but now I can't even practice." Hinata said referring to the locked gym door

"Lets go through the window." Kageyama suggests and my eyes widened while Hinata says

"Are you crazy! We will get expelled!"

"Man 5:30 a.m. is too early." A upperclassman with a buzz cut says with a yawn while he walked towards us

"Tanaka?" Hinata says and the upperclassman smiles before holding up some keys

"You've got 2 hours, and then beat it."

"You're awesome!" Hinata exclaims and Kageyama said a small

"Thank you."

The upperclassman chuckles before saying "What a great upperclassman I am? Call me upperclassman Tanaka."

"Upperclassman Tanaka." They both cheered

"Again."

"Upperclassman Tanaka." They both say in unison then the upperclassman starts to laugh

"Okay, lets start practicing!" The upperclassman said while he opened up the door then he walked inside

I watch as Kageyama and Hinata fight to try and be the first one in

"Come on you don't have time for this." I say while I push both of them into the gym.

That's when the upperclassman finally noticed me

"Who are you?"

"Oh, I am waiting on the girl's volleyball practice. I was hoping I could stay and watch until then." I said and he nods

"Sure if you want to." The upperclassman said then added "I'm Tanaka by the way."

"Nice to meet you Tanaka, I'm L/N." I say with a small smile, and I turn around to go and sit down to watch but Kageyama is standing in front of me

"You said that you jump serve was faster than mine, so lets see it." He said and held out a volleyball to me

"Are you sure? It might hurt your pride." I say

"I'm sure it will be too slow to." He said lightly tossing the ball to me and I catch it

"Fine." I say taking off my jacket and set down my stuff in a corner before putting on my volleyball shoes and walk to the opposite side on the court.

"You ready?" I ask while I dibble the ball on the floor and he nods

I look at him before focusing on the ball and letting the ball fall from my fingers to dribble it on the ground a couple of times before holding it up.

I release the volleyball as high as possible and flick my wrist upwards letting the ball roll off of the tips of my fingers.

'One-Two-Three.' I think while I take my approach towards the ball, and jump. Once I am to the peak of my jump the ball hits my hand causing the ball to rocket across the court.

I watch as the ball heads right towards Kageyama and curves right at the last second.
