Chapter 29

Lina had noticed Avril being so quiet on their way home.

While Tony brought in her things Lina followed Avril to his study.

"Did you change your mind?" she asked.

"Mmm?" he turned to her after closing the door.

"You might have realised that you didn't like me enough to do all this and are regretting your decision right now"

Avril frowned walking to her, "Why do you say that?".

"Because you haven't looked at me since we left home or spoken a word. You seem to be in a bad mood even now" She gazed up at him.

Avril sighed holding her hands and pulling her closer, "Am sorry I made you think that way. I have something on my mind that is bothering me"

"So it's about me or us?" she asked.

"Us?" he said

Lina breathed, "So it's about our relationship, if you're not up for it we can wait. You might have confused your feeling towards me for something else and are now in a dilemma... I don't want to....."

Avril stopped her, "Lina don't let your thoughts run wild, it a nothing like that. There is something I want to tell you but am worried about the consequences it might bring after you know," he said.

"What is it?" she asked. Gently he pushed her down the seat and knelt next to her.

She could see him hesitate, "What could it be that is bothering you so much, if you're not ready then don't tell me. I can wait until you are"

Avril smiled, "I know you can but it can't. The more we get deeper into our relationship the more complicated it will be for me to tell you"

"But you seem bothered, if it's a secret you want to share and are not ready to then hold on until the right time comes. I don't want to see you so stressed about something you can tell anytime you are ready"

He sighed but before he could say more his phone rang. Lina pushed him away to answer when he hesitated.

"What is wrong?" he answered it was Richard.

"I have the information and I don't think you will like what I have for you," said Richard.

"Am on my way" he said hanging up.

Lina got up, "Is something wrong?"

"I need to attend to something at the company but I will be back," he said.

She followed him to the door and watched him leave.

"That was fast, did you fly here?" Richard scoffed.

"Don't waste my time and get to the point. I left Lina alone" he said.

"You make it sound like she can't take care of herself"

"She can but her carelessness makes it hard "he answered.

"Okay, so here is the information I got about their family," Richard said.

" The Williams, a happy small family of four, the two parents and their two sons. On the outside, it was a normal family but behind that facade, they hid a dark secret. Both the parents were hunters, especially the father whose lineage is full vampire hunters.... but with time it turned into an obsession that was passed down to all their next generations".

"Then how does Lina come into the picture?" asked Avril.

"Lina was an experiment" answered Richard.

"Experiment?"

"Mmm, her origin is unclear but the information available showed the Williams were told to raise her after their organisation performed tests on her since her infant days. They wanted to create a person who was more of a weapon for them against the vampires". explained Richard.

But even as a weak child Lina was able to survive all the experiments and turned into something they didn't expect. But before they could complete the trials a group of vampires attacked them, killing most of the doctors. The Williams escaped with the child and ended up raising her.

Lina was so special that without knowing they had bonded with her and did everything to protect her. The organisation pissed at their betrayal sent their best to hunt them down but even the vampires whereon their tails to kill the threat that was created to destroy them. One night as they escaped the vampires got to them first, killing the parents.

When the organisation got there the kids were alive and unharmed except for one who was unconscious covered in blood while she lay next to a pile of shredded vampire bodies.

Avril met Richard's gaze," It was her and when she woke up, Lina had no memory of it but a hidden phobia of being around forests during the nighttime"

"Do we know what they did to her during those experiments?" he asked.

"No every trace of it was destroyed"

"Is that why I could not smell her blood or hear her heartbeat?" he asked.

"It's more than that, Lina's blood acts like poison to any vampire if taken or got into contact with. It moves so fast that by the time the vampire gets to know it's finished".

"But I wasn't hurt when I got into contact with it," said Avril.

"I can't say why, but we still have time to find out... but you need to be careful Avril". Richard warned. "Lina's body was originally human but after those tests, she could exhibit powers of your kind. This is because they made their vampire who was still and could live as a human. But after the accident, Lina forgot most of what she could and lived a normal life with the two brothers. Sometimes her abilities link but she does it without knowing, especially the one of bending people to her will."

Avril frowned "What do you mean?"

"I mean, those abrupt feelings you have now might be her ability to make people imprint on her. It might not be what you think it is but her tr....."

Avril got up, "Thank you, but I think this is where I leave"

"Huh? After what, I went through to get all this and you want to leave even before I finish what am saying"

Avril nodded, "It's getting late and Lina is alone at home"

Richard scoffed, "Really do you hear yourself, I just said that girl is a ticking time bomb and you say that instead"

"Richard I don't care what or who she is, as long as this feeling is still there am not leaving her side"

"And what if it's was I said and they are not yours but her doing this?" he asked.

Avril fell silent and gazed at his friend.

"Think bout it Avril, it's been centuries since you felt that way and when you met her everything changed. Her brother knows everything about you and Lina isn't who you thought she was".

Avril sighed,

"Richard, I had given up... Let go of everything and was ready to finally rest cause. My life for centuries was never the same since that day... but that night when eyes rested upon her blushed face. My heart ached finally feeling the pain coursing through my whole body. I felt so alive.

That night as she laid next to me, soft, warm, innocent and beautiful I saw everything as I did in the past."

"I don't care if it's her who is doing this or it's me, but I finally got something that makes me feel so warm and happy and I don't want to make it go away even if it's fake," he said.
