Unforgivable

Evelyn spent the rest of the day making sure the entire week's reports were in order. She was in charge of overseeing WWO's major projects. John and Ben sat with her as she reviewed the reports.

"John, on Monday please contact the contractors on the Ming project. Ben, I need you to personally go onsite and ensure that the Jade project is on schedule. These reports are conflicting and I want an accurate account," Evelyn said.

"Okay," they both said to her request. What made Evelyn so good at what she did was that she always went over the reports. She never skipped a word, and always followed up. It ensured less problems in the future.

Her great grandfather had problems where he did not have everything double and triple checked and it had caused some problems for the company. But every generation since then have ensured not to make the same mistakes.

When she was finished, she dismissed them. There was still half an hour left in the work day and she went to her father's office for the scheduled weekly report.

She knocked on his door and he called for her to enter.

"Yes, great. We'll touch base again soon. Bye," her father said into the phone and hung up the phone. Assistant Sun was sitting across from her father with his usual tablet in his hands.

"Evelyn!" Deming said in a cheerful mood. "Father," she greeted him. She finally began to relax about addressing her father formally at work unless necessary.

"Good news I take it," she said. He nodded. "I just bought a ridiculous amount of stocks from CGC," her father announced.

"I see," she said. "Aren't you curious why?" he asked her.

"No, their stock's are really low right now. It's basic business," she said. He nodded, proud of his daughter.

She sat down in front of and he listened to her give a detailed report of WWO's projects.

"Excellent," he said. "Thank you," she said. He smiled at her, concern shone in his eyes.

"Enough with work. How are you?" he asked her. She gave a small smile. Her head dipped to indicate her left shoulder. "It still hurts, but that's to be expected," she said.

"Have you spoken with your Uncle Wai?" he asked. "We've exchanged a couple of emails, the counter suit has been accepted by the judge," she answered. He nodded.

"How are you handling that?" She laughed, "Ba, I'm fine. You don't have to worry."

"I'm always going to worry about you," he said. "I know," she replied.

"Come home for dinner tonight. You still promised to be there for Lady An. Chloe is bringing Phoenix," Deming said. Evelyn almost face palmed herself. She had completely forgotten that Lady An had moved back into the Wei Manor.

"Sure, can I-" she began to ask. "I already invited Jinhai and Zain," he said before she could ask. Evelyn laughed, feeling relieved. It seemed her father was supportive of her relationship with Jinhai.

"You're okay with me and Jinhai?" Evelyn asked. "Daughter, he's the only man I would approve of for you," he answered. She gave him a confused look.

"It's not because of his family's wealth or power," he said. "I could care less about that." The thought had crossed her mind but she was relieved to hear her father say that.

"I've seen the two of you together since you were children. You've always had an adventurous spirit, much like your mother. Who else could keep you grounded but him. It appears that you make him more adventurous," he said.

"What do you mean?" Evelyn asked. "I mean that the both of you balance each other out. And I know that he genuinely cares for you. I'm sure he will take care of you and be able to make you happy," he answered.

She smiled at him then she got up to leave. She had a couple of more things to take care of before it was time to leave.

When she got back to her office she closed the door and sat down. She filed away the things that were done with and then arranged next week's assignments on her desk in order by importance.

She then made a quick phone call.

"Hi honey," Jinhai answered. "Hi," she said sweetly.

"You'll be coming to dinner?" she asked. "Yes, I'm on my way to pick you up now," he answered.

"Will Zain be coming?" she asked. "I'm right here," Zain answered. She greeted him then she heard an email come in. She looked at the email, one hand still held the phone against her ear.

"Phoenix will be there," she said. There was a pause where no one said anything. The email was from an unknown address but it was marked as important and had made it through the security checks that her company's IT department performed.

There was only one line of text. "Take back your life." Attached was a video that she held the cursor hovered over. For some reason fear began to seize her.

"I see," Zain's voice came through the phone. "Hold on," she said into the phone and clicked on the link.

A video instantly began to play. In it was Shawn and Amy inside the bedroom of the house she shared with Shawn. Shawn was dressed in his usual crisp white shirt, black suit and blue tie. Amy had on a low cut dress and had her arms crossed. It was obvious that they were unaware of the fact that they were being videotaped as it was obvious the person was hiding behind the door.

"When is your divorce going to be finalized?" Amy asked. "When the lawyers settle it," Shawn answered as he loosened his tie.

"Have you called her," she asked? "Yes, I called her," he answered rubbing a hand down his face.

It was obvious that he was stressed but what didn't escape Evelyn's notice was the fact that Shawn was completely different. He often yelled when he was stressed. Shawn hadn't necessarily yelled at her, but he definitely wasn't patient with her. He seemed to be patient with Amy. She couldn't remember when he was like that with her.

"And what did she say?" Amy asked. "She said she would let the attorney's handle it," he answered. He sat down on the edge of the bed.

"What's the problem?" Amy said. "You know the problem," Shawn answered, still sounding patient.

"At this rate she'll get the seventeen percent of the shares," he answered. "So then give it to her!" Amy said raising her voice.

"You know why I can't do that, my family would never allow it," he answered. "What about me!? We can't get married until you get divorced from her!" Amy shrieked.

"You know I'm trying. We had to wait this long was so she couldn't file a counter suit," he said. "Now, she managed to get her hands on that video and she can contest the divorce."

"So you'll lose either way! You're just dragging this on!" she shouted. "Lower your voice, do you want the whole house to hear?" he asked.

"I'm trying to do right by you, but I have to do it this way. It's the only way that I'll be able to get the divorce and be able to take care of you," he said.

"Evelyn what are you watching?" Jinhai's voice came through the receiver of her ear. "Shh," she said to him.

"You know I'll do right by you," Shawn said gently taking Amy's hands. "It's been almost two years! You say this all the time!" Amy yelled as she ripped her hands out of Shawn's grasp.

"You were the one that told me you were married and you shouldn't do anything with me. Then you came to me. You chased me. Then after we sleep together, you said you didn't want to stop. That you wanted to be with me. That you loved me! Then last year you tell me that she's pregnant!" Amy said.

Evelyn's hand began to shake and her chest began to tighten.

"I do want to be with you! So much so that I took care of Evelyn's pregnancy!" Shawn finally snapped. He shot up from the bed and whirled around to face her. "I slipped an abortion pill into her prenatal vitamins, then she lost the baby when we were in France," he shouted.

"Then you still stayed with her for another year!" Amy shouted back. "I had to meet the five year deadline!" He retorted.

"That's apparently moot now isn't it!" She screamed. "I'm pregnant. So you have to make a choice. Are you going to drag this out, so that we can't get married? Do you want the Cheng's first grandchild to be born out of wedlock? Because I am not going to walk down the aisle looking like I swallowed a watermelon!" she yelled. The video cut to black and Evelyn was shaking so badly that her phone slipped from her grasp.

She could faintly hear Jinhai and Zain call her name from the phone but made no move to grab it. Evelyn stared at the screen in disbelief.

Abortion pill? Prenatal vitamins? The whole thing was a ploy by Shawn so that he could be with his dirty mistress?

He killed her baby so that he could fight her on the percentage of shares she would be able to obtain from their divorce? Her eyes became rimmed with red as it filled with tears. These weren't tears of sadness, these were borne of anger.

Evelyn sat there, her hands clenched tightly into fists. The tears in her eyes never fell, it caused a burning sensation in her eyes. She didn't know how long she sat that way but Deming, Jinhai, Zain, Ben, and John came into the room.

"Evelyn," Jinhai said slowly as he approached her. Evelyn barely registered his voice. He came around her desk and bent down so that they were eye level. He spun the chair so that their eyes met.

"He killed my baby," she whispered. "I'm so sorry," he said as he pulled her off the chair and into his arms. He had heard everything. She didn't move but she allowed him to comfort her.

"What is this about?" Deming said coming around to stand next to them.

Evelyn sniffled and forced herself to stand up. She replayed the video from the beginning so that they could see.

When it finished, no one said a word. Evelyn's hands gripped the back of the chair. She took deep calming breaths, rationality slowly returned to her.

When it came to Shawn she officially lost all respect for him. It no longer mattered that she had once loved him or that they were married.

She could have forgiven him for everything. She could forgive him for cheating on her and for firing her. But what he did to her child was so inhumane and it made him completely unrecognizable.

She understood now that he never truly loved her. He loved her prestige, her connections, and her ability. It wasn't quite that he was incapable of love, she was almost positive he loved Amy. She knew that he cared about Cheng's Global Corporation.

She would take it from him, she vowed. She knew that she would receive the seventeen percent of the shares. She did the math, with her shares now combined with what she would win in the divorce it was a combined total of twenty-two percent. Her father had control of twenty percent. That would give her forty-two. Which would give her the majority of shares in CGC.

With it, she could fight him for the CEO position. Something in her eyes sparked fear in those around her. No one has ever seen her eyes the way they were now. There was a fire and a sense of vengeance. She was so calm and calculative that it commanded attention.

"Daughter," Deming said. "I'm going to fight him," she said turning to her father. Deming met Evelyn's eyes with concern.

"He did all this because he didn't want me to go after CGC. He wants to cheat? Fine. He wants to fire me? Fine. He wants a divorce? That's fine too. But force me to lose my child? I will take everything from him," Evelyn said.

"You didn't want this," Deming said softly.

"He killed my baby!" Evelyn shouted. "Your grandchild," she said quieter.

"I will never forgive him for that," Evelyn declared. Hatred was burning through her veins like ice. She was fueled with so much pain, anger, and a thirst for vengeance.

"Okay, I'll help you," Jinhai said. "I will too," Zain said placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Whatever you need Jie Jie," Ben said. It was a rare occasion when Ben addressed her formally. She turned to him and reached out a hand. He put his hand in hers and she squeezed it.

"I'm here for you too," John piped in. Evelyn gave him a gratified look.

"You know I'll help you too," Deming said. Evelyn let go of Ben and hugged her father.

Deming held her tightly as Evelyn let herself gather strength from him.

"I'll have IT run a trace to find out who sent the video," Deming said.

"It's someone from the house. That's the room Shawn and I shared," Evelyn answered.

"I'll see who's been on staff since last week," Jinhai said. "Check to see who was there yesterday. He called me to talk about things. I'm sure that was the conversation with me that was being referred to," Evelyn said.

Jinhai typed in a message on his phone before he looked back in her direction.

He took her hand. "Come, we'll all help you. But right now you need to take a breath," he said. She nodded and let him lead her out of the office.

Zain picked up her phone from the ground and wiped the screen with a tissue. He handed it to Jinhai who took it from him.

Deming arranged for IT to trace the email then everyone filed out of the office.

Deming and Ben went back together, Assistant Sun drove them. John went home.

Evelyn sat in the front seat with Jinhai next to her. Zain sat in the back silently. The car ride was quiet as both of the brother's knew that Evelyn needed time to process.

Jinhai rubbed his hand up and down her thigh as he drove with one hand. Evelyn leaned back and closed her eyes as she focused on breathing deeply. She needed to make him pay. Shawn Cheng would pay she vowed. Or her name wasn't Evelyn Wei.

Even though this chapter has been planned since the beginning, it still broke my heart to write. Evelyn has been through so much that she didn’t deserve at the hands of Shawn. But you NEVER mess with a mother's love.
