Chapter forty three: Mistaken

"it is the first time ever he reached out to you?" Henry asked, breaking the dead silence between the room. Jay only nodded and refused to speak any further.

Observing his friend's behaviour, the confused one figured. unlike him, they were judging the matter from their hatred toward Thomas. "what if its true and y/n is in danger. we should look into it."

"Are you really going to believe that guy?" Miles spoke back. his eyes red in anger. his actions screamed that even if the world falls apart, he wont believe it. since it was his swore enemy who assumed it.

Henry came to realise, there was no point in talking it out between them. at the same time, he didnt blame them for it. if he were to put himself in their place, he would've done the same thing.

Their loved one lost their life because of Thomas's negligence. once faith is gone, it's too difficult to bring it back.

"what if im willing to? cause i dont want to sit around here chewing on my thoughts while something really ends up happening. Thomas may hate us, but I know that if something really happens to

y/n, he'll not leave her alone to suffer."

"Unlike someone i know." At the last few words, his eyes turned to miles. It didn't take a genius to figure out what that look meant.

Walking down the stairs, Henry met an acquaintance. Leaning against the car door, Thomas was waiting for him the whole time.

The moment those impatient eyes fell on the nearing person, He gave a relieved smile. "I knew I could trust you." The other only nodded.

"Get in." once in the car, Henry followed to sit in the seat next to him.

"where we going? police station?"

"The police are not willing to help us before 24 hours passes. If anything, they are waiting for the captor to contact her family. I doubt it will happen anytime soon-" before Henry could reply, Thomas roughly turned the car around. it made him gulp down anything he prepared to say.

'he's driving too fast...' stealing a glance at the person beside him, henry noticed the impatients running in Thomas's actions. cold sweat were breaking out on his forehead.

when looked carefully, anyone could notice the way his hands were trembling while handling the steering wheel.

'Could it be that he has a hunch on who it is...' upon reaching their destination, Thomas gets out of the car, forcing the other to follow silently.

Henry remained clueless why he was brought.... here. he looked around but it was no other than where the crime took place. what was the point of coming back here when everything has already happened.

"what are we doing here?"

"The last time we met, someone tried to trap her using my name on a paper." walking forward, "this is where we parted.

If I'm not mistaken, the captors must have been hiding somewhere here. We just have to check the CCTV footage of the area and submit it to the police. It'll save our time when the real investigation starts."

Even in this difficult situation, henry could only praise him for his thoughts. but there was still the spark of nervousness playing in his voice.

Until now he was only answering every one of his question bluntly. but now that they stood infront of y/n's house, there was a mix of emotions in his actions. 'does he have something to do with this accident...?'

Thomas asked nearby securities to provide their camera footages, with Henry standing behind. or maybe, he refused to move.

Standing there brought all kinds of memories in front of him.

'Wait for me' the Henry in his school uniform shouted to the moving group ahead. looking back, Jay waved his hand, reassurring he's waiting for him.

they walked foward to see y/n and Isla chatting while Miles followed them from behind.

Amidst them joking and chatting around, most importantly, they were happy.

They once crossed the same road together. but looking back now, it was empty. each of them chose different path based on their judgement.

As they began to fade, the illusory henry looked back to the real one. he let off a painful smile. then, drift out like everyone else...

Henry figured the hidden meaning behind his memory.

'...I'll bring all of us together again.'

ding! The screen of an abandoned phone flashed. drawing the attention of its owner. If was any other time, Jay would'nt even bother to check. but the given circumstances compelled him. he read out the text message sent to him. as each words was seen, his hand tightens around the phone.

leaning against the kitchen island, Miles stood spaced out. but noticing Jay, he was quick to straigten out his position. his expression somehow differed from last time.

"henry texted me back. abduction seems to be the case." thousand of thought went through his mind. but the one that stood out had to be that, he cant let Jay know what he's thinking. avoiding gaze, Miles tried to walk out,

"I dont need to guess what you're thinking, its pretty much odvious." halted on his steps, Miles refused to look back. "we should start looking for her-"

"I know we should.  but the moment you walk out, you'll try to do everything on your own. and this time... i wont let you have your way."

"what do you mean- are you suggesting we get that bastard's help?"  the silence got cut off with Jay's long sigh as he slowly looked back, "we both know well that Thomas has the upper hand here. instead of acting seperarely which would cause us a great waste of time, we can join them and find her-."

truth hurts...

Miles's inner disgust came out as a low chuckle, "you're all hopeless... he wills to help us once and you forget about all his misdeeds."

"We're all responsible for what happened. If we hadn't left her alone, none of this would have happened in the first place. "

"I wont ever beg for his help-"

"Im sure you can stand to see y/n going through the same thing Perry did..."

"..."

"Im willing to join them. if you change your mind, just turn up to the address i sent you."
