World War Z (Part 9)
As the first dead leaped into a free fall, Logan shouldered his rifle and aimed before sending a round into the things head before it reached the bus that was underneath it. The shot caused the crowd to quiet enough for them to noticed the dead on the wall. Next was a cacophony of screams and shouts as people ran from the now six, ten, twenty five bodies falling from the wall. The soldiers shifted into a firing line as the dead started to crash in mass on the refugee buses, biting those still inside and causing the hoard to grow. At this point Logan and Akane were mostly watching as they needed to start running.
"Gerry, we need to leave now!" Logan said putting a hand on the man's shoulder. Warmbrunn reacted then as he nugged Gerry and everyone followed his run. He signaled a female soldier who moved with her squad to us. Warmbrunn didn't slow as they team met up and continued to rush away from the slowly growing mega hoard. The Mossad head spoke to the female squad leader in Hebrew before breaking off from the them to an armored transport.
"She'll get you out of here, she'll get you to your plane!" he shouted before speaking in Hebrew one last time then ducking into his car. As the crowd moved Gerry looked back and paused his gaze, making Logan and Akane look back to see the blind man being avoided. Logan looked back to the front before pushing his charge forward. They made it to a city street that was packed with people running both with and against the fleeing group.
"Wrong way! Wrong way!" Gerry shouted out but his english was both ignored and likely not understood. The female soldier was speaking into her vest as they ran and the couple understood she was signaling the copter. They pressed down another street, this one caged thankfully as the dead soon were throwing themselves from rooftops above the group. Each body that slammed into the defense had the structure shaking and creaking violently, and the panicked people inside could tell it wouldn't hold long. As the group moved, the bodies that slammed into the cage from above were reaching in with twitching limbs looking for a living prize.
Gerry saw a few unlucky people get grabbed and pulled to the top of the cage to be bitten. One such person was just let go in front of them, already starting to rise to infect those inside the cage. Akane's feet pumped a bit faster as she leaped forward and did a moving spin kick, sending the dead colliding against the cage wall. Logan put a round into its motionless head to end it so the group had more time before they got swarmed by the dead. The couple looked back to see already so many newly infected, infecting more, and amassing to run after them.
Eventually they came upon a broken section that one of the Mossad soldiers didn't duck for. He was grabbed fast and pulled up to the dead. Gerry tried to pull him back down, but Logan pushed him away before pushing the man fully up and out of the cage to be swarmed. He then moved backward to send a few pieces of lead into the dead, both killing and plugging the hole with their bodies. "Why?" Gerry shouted as he was pushed along by the Mossad team.
"He was bitten by six of them, better a distraction than a hindrance to us" Logan said moving with the team. it wasn't moments later that an explosion went off, breaking the cage, and sending the dead fully into the secure street. This was fine for them as they had broke through a more open street that was empty of the dead for now.
"Hawk 5! almost there!" the female leader shouted as they rushed faster through the streets.

"Hawk 5! Hawk 5! listen carefully" a dispatcher shouted over the comms. the UN cargo plane's pilot checked the message. "The city is breached and the runways are slowly being encroached upon." The Pilot grew wide eyed as he sounded the message to the others on the plane. The SEAL team leader frowned and pulled out his own sat phone to make a call.

Breathing heavy Gerry broke off from the street to dash up some ancient stone stairs, the Mossad team were running with guns up as they shot at the mass of dead in front of them. Akane joined in while Logan followed the female captain. She was aiming for a door and was struggling to break the lock. Logan tapped her shoulder and she looked back. He nodded and together they both kicked the door open before rushing in. Gerry was right behind with Akane on his rear and the rest of the Mossad team just barely making it through as the hoard closed in.
They kept running, moving up stairs and down a hallway, until coming to an open gated doorway. seeing the possible block the Leader moved the group to it and rush in, with Akane standing by the door as the last mossad member ran through. When he did she slammed the metal barred door. closed and started to fire on the dead with the other members of the team. her laughter drowned out the shouts of fear from the team as she mowed down the dead that rammed against the metal gate.
"Say hello to my little friend!" she shouted out in a horrible accent as she send round after round into the dead. Logan on the other hand moved forward with Gerry and the team captain, who moved out into an inner courtyard balcony hallway. The dead were still swarming and a few were in front of their path. The captain and Logan dropped a few infront as Gerry again saw quite the sight. In the distance on a downhill street was a sickly looking boy. He wasn't fast enough to keep up with the retreating living and in an act of desperate bravery swung at the first dead that rush near him. It was a weak strike that didn't even slow the dead, but instead of being attacked, he was ignored.
Like a rock in a stream the dead swarmed around and past the boy, as if they couldn't even see him. Soon enough Gerry was yanked away by Logan as Akane had rejoined her husband and charge. They were right behind the team captain who were rushing down the stairs of the building. As they ran down the stairs though, the dead had started to crash through windows and falling in front of their path once again. The captain, Logan, and Akane started to gun the dead down as they came to the ground floor.
Logan pushed Gerry to cover and posted up with the the women and started to put down dead after dead that appeared. Unfortunately the more dead they killed the more swarmed through the windows and doorways. Eventually the sound of metal grinding against rock sounded out and told of the metal door uptop being ripped off its hinges. The rest of the team were coming down the stairs and were covering the the the three infront when they turned to the broken door. seeing the situation for what it was the soldier in the back pulled a grenade and tossed it.
His shout out of his action had his fellow teammates brace as the explosion rocked the building. Luckily the explosion broke down the doorway and blocked it off from the dead. The female captain pulled her own grenade and tossed it to the path ahead, earning a mass kill on the dead blocking their exit. With the two explosions the room quieted as the dead had lost there entry points and targets for the moment. In the silence the group took a breath as the female captain started to check for any movement among the fallen dead.
Her movement was slow and cautious as she scanned in fear of the next threat that could pop out. For a moment everything looked clear as not a sound could be heard, other than the deep breaths of the group. Then, quick as lighting a dead lunged for the captains bare hand, but instead of tasting flesh it tasted the cold and sharp edge of a combat knife. Logan may not have remembered the phone ringing in Korea, but this scene he did remember. The blade sunk into the dead's mouth and forced it back enough for Akane's blade to sink into it's skull.
The captain breathed out in shock as she looked at the skewered dead and then to the couple. Akane smiled with a wink as Logan moved past, gun raised, and collected the blades while he had time. The sound of the copter thumped outside and Logan looked at the group.
"Let's move!" he shouted and the team nodded and the Captain took up lead again, a pair of gloves now firmly equipped. They ran outside to see the chopper descending quickly to pick them up but, even with the saved time of the uninjured captain, they were to late as the dead had the chopper ascending to kill of the approaching hoard. It was a futile attempt however as they had descended to low and the dead were latching on to the bottom. The added weight and the dead actually climbing inside of the chopper made it clear that the soldiers inside are as good as dead. Akane pulled Gerry away as Logan pulled the captain who looked crestfallen at there escape failing.
Running they watched as the chopper spin twice before swinging wrong and crashed into the ground sideways, breaking the blades, and causing a massive explosion.

Dr. Fassbach was pacing waiting for Gerry and the elite couple to get back while the SEAL team were readying to defend the plane. Soon though the SEAL captain came out of the cockpit and signaled his men to buckle up.
"Dr. Fassbach, sit down, were heading back to base" the captain said and the doctor looked livid.
"What, no, Lane is still heading back!" he shouted but the captain just pushed the doctor into a seat.
"We just got word that there escape chopper just crashed, if he isn't dead yet, he will likely be soon. I'm sorry but I have my orders" the captain said before walking back to the cockpit as the plane spun up. Dr. Fassbach looked defeated as he sat in his seat.
"We were supposed to find the answer, not fail at every step" he said as the plane shifted to take the empty runway.

Running hard and through a crowd of scared people the group breached the city and made it to the runways. Unfortunately their flight had just taken off.
"No!" Gerry shouted as he saw the U.N. plane fly away.
"Follow, will take that one!" Akane said and ran towards the commercial plane about to take off. Everyone booked it fast and the Mossad team aimed at the plane, causing it to slow down and wait. the plane dropped a emergency ladder and Gerry climbed on. Akane followed as gun fire behind them made the two look to see the dead were slowly approaching. The captain started to walk forward but one of her team pushed her back towards the plane.
(Go, one of us needs to live to tell our story) her subordinate said as she and her fellow squad started to run to fend off the dead to help the plane take off smoothly. The captain wanted to follow but Logan pulled her back and to the ladder. She bit back the rage at her city falling as she climbed the ladder after Akane. Logan followed after that and walked past the pilot and co pilot. He saw they were unhappy about the guns but I'm sure Akane made it clear they were keeping the protection. The four walked through the plane, and found the front two seats empty. Taking them before anyone else they all took a breath and calmed as the plane started up.
The dead were running fast and starting to crowd the runways, though the plane was thankfully gaining speed faster than the dead were growing. as the plane left the ground Gerry looked out the plane window and saw the only secure city being destroyed just like the rest. he dropped back down and showed dead eyes as every single path was ending in death and no answers. At this point, he just wanted to see his family again.
