I Will Keep My Promise

After I killed the last player and took the loot, I left the alley before guards could come.

"The NPC invited them to his team? I don't think that was possible last time. I don't remember seeing any videos on it."

I wanted to investigate more into this but my thought process was interrupted when I heard someone call out to me.

"Sir Romeo!"

I turn around to see who it was that called me. To my surprise it was Jack Finny, the little kid that I rescued. Not only that, his parents and who I presumed to be his sister was also there. I could see a few guards standing close by.

"Hello Jack!"

I put on my best smile. I can figure out the requirements to get an NPC to join my team later.

"Lord Finny. Madam Finny."

I also address his parents as well. Building good relationships with NPC will definitely help me down the line.

"No need to be so formal with us Sir Romeo. You saved our son!"

It would seem that the two also wants to build a good relationship with me. I see Mrs. Finny, uhm, I mean Helen push her daughter forward as well. She seemed to be about my age.

"Let me introduce our daughter to you. This is Rose Finny, our eldest and only daughter."

Rose doesn't budge at all from her spot behind her mom. William, her father also nudges her forward. I try to get a good look at her.

Rose had majestic gray hair just like her mother. It was long and luscious. She had a beautiful dress fit for a noble lady. She had mesmerizing red eyes that I couldn't seem to look away from.

William seemed to realize that Rose was feeling shy and didn't want to come out so he went ahead and spoke.

"Sorry about that Sir Romeo. Rose still seems to be a bit shy after she realized that she attacked her brother's savior."

The old man gave a hearty grin and laugh as he spoke. He even got real close with me and wrapped his arm around me.

I look at Rose and saw that her cheeks have gone super red. His wife saw it as well and chuckled.

"Honey! There's no need for that! She's embarrassed enough!"

William saw that his wife was right and dialed it back. I couldn't help but smile. It was quiet the heartwarming scene with the two old couple laughing and their daughter being shy.

While the three were laughing and talking, I feel my shirt getting tugged. I looked down and see Jack looking up at me with excitement in his eyes. I kneel down so that I would be at his level.

"What's up man?"

Jack fidgets a bit before answering me.

"Father told me that you would hangout with us. Will you really?"

Ah. It's weird, I know that they aren't real but I do feel a connection with them. I look at the other three, they looked at me with the same excitement. I look back at Jack.

"Oh course, let's hang out!"

"Yay!!!"

I pick up Jack and throw him on my shoulders. I walk forward a bit before Jack turned back around.

"Come on guys! Come on sis! You wanted to make up with Romeo for hurting him right?"

I look at Rose and see her once again try to hide out of shame. Her entire family has been exposing her since I've ran into them.

Her parents pushed her forward and she ended walking along side Jack and I. At least this festival won't be boring with them here.

The old couple suddenly runs away, waving to us.

"Have fun you three! HEHEHEHE!"

The old man giggled like a child while his wife skipped away along side him.

I just sigh. I guess this was their plan all along. I set Jack down and hold his hand.

"Why don't you lead me around Jack, show me all your favorite things here."

"Mhmmm! Of course, come on!"

As he drags me along, I make sure that Rose stays close to me. I try to make small talk with her as we walk. Rose however, speaks before I could.

"Sorry… about hurting you when you brought my little brother back."

She awkwardly apologizes to me.

"No worries, I understand your concern. I have a little sister as well. I would also do the same in your shoes."

She just nods and doesn't say anything. The silence was to much for me to bare. I decided to take the lead on this. I pull Jack in closer to me so that he doesn't wonder off. I stop and look at Rose, bringing my hand out for a handshake.

"Let's start over again. My name is Romeo. It's nice to meet you."

She hesitates while looking at me and her brother. Jack just smiles, he was just happy to be here.

Rose reaches out and shakes my hand.

"My name is Rose Finny. It's a pleasure to meet you Sir Romeo."

"Good! Now that we got that awkwardness out of the way, let's go!!! You're a noble right Rose? You can pay for Jack and I!! How does that sound Jack?"

"Yay!!! Let's go!!!!"

Jack and I run off towards some stalls, I look back to see Rose playfully pout. Her pout then slowly turns to a beautiful smile.

My heart ends up skipping a beat. As beautiful as Rose was, it wasn't because of her. It was her smile. Her smile reminded me of someone else… someone that I couldn't save in my past life.

'I will keep my promise… this time around.'

Hero Kiana POV

I grew up as the Duke's youngest daughter. I was spoiled and showered with love from both of my parents.

Most noble homes have their kids fight and train to become the best among their peers. It was believed among most nobles that they were the ones chosen by the gods.

Luckily, my parents didn't care about that. They encouraged me to play and become whatever I wanted. I was very lucky. I was able to enjoy the life of a noble without having to make the same sacrifices as my peers.

Unfortunately my life wasn't meant to be easy. When I turned 10, my father suffered from an unknown illness that left him bedridden. My older brother, who was only 17 at the time, had to take up the role that my dad left behind.

I stayed by his side all the time, I didn't want to be separated from him. I prayed for his recovery but sadly, my prayers were never answered. My father soon died after.

I was heartbroken, my brother seemed lost and my mother became a shell of her former self. Our house soon lost most of its power since our allies began to abandon us. I was scared and worried. I didn't want my father's life's work to crumble.

I looked for anyway to bring back the power we lost and one night, the way for me to do that came.

LEGACIES

Legacies are powers sealed away into soul spellbooks. These soul spellbooks were different from regular spellbooks.

Regular spellbooks are mass produced and available to the public with exceptions to a few rare spells. Soul spellbooks are widely believed to have been created by the Man God eons ago.

These spellbooks contain skills, spells and techniques that are meant to protect humanity. The only way to use one of these soul spellbooks is if it chooses you.

It turns out that father had one of these legacies. That night I couldn't sleep so I looked through his old book collection. When I touched the book, it suddenly began glowing and vanished into me.

I was scared so I ran to my room and went to sleep. The next day, the royal guards came and took me away. They told me that I've been chosen by the Man God as the next hero!

I was so excited and just left without thinking too much about it. I told mother and brother before I left that I would restore our house to its former glory. That was 10 years ago now…

"Kiana! Are you ready?"

I snapped back to reality after I heard someone calling me. It was Sarah calling out to me. It seems like it's time.

"Oh yeah… I'm coming."

As I get ready to walk up on stage, I couldn't help but think of my mother and brother.

'I will keep my promise. I will bring glory back to our name.'

As I hear the mayor introduce me, I go ahead and walk on stage.

"And without further ado, the hero, KIANA!!!"
