Meeting The Mercenaries

It was currently midnight and technically morning the whole of the corporation Megatech was pitch black. Most of the survivors might be asleep by now since the lot of the entire day had been totally exhausting.

But then again, most weren't able to sleep a wink and remained vigilant. Their minds gripped with fear and anxiety, thinking about the people that had died from the sudden attack of the Mutated Giant Pigeons and then from the ambush of the zombies in their rooms and their friends and families that had died to the nuclear explosions or succumbed to the virus spread from its aftereffect.

Ryver was within his room, searching through the closet for a decent cloth and when he found one, he immediately put it on. The arrival of Skye had peaked him and he knew there was something going on according to his intuition. Skye was just a tiny bit of it and probably here to probe.

She might think she didn't give any details to him, but he had seen through her behaviour and read her body movements. There was a certainty that she wasn't acting alone. But seeing as she was the only one who came to check up on him, it means they didn't place much importance on the group and weren't particularly here for the group but something different and also important within the company.

According to his calculations, there might be a team of trained soldiers or Mercenaries already within Mega-tech and he was going to find out their objective.

He turned off the wall-mounted rechargeable lamp that softly lit up his room. Outside the company, it was like a signal to any more strange and malicious creature. The others had learnt their lessons and had put it off, but even though he was aware the lighting was the main cause of the attack, he still had his switched on. It was unknown if he wanted the company to be attacked once more by those beasts or if he had actually forgotten to switch it off.

"BOOM!"

There was a sidddnd rumble that shook the entire Skyscraper, making it wobble slightly as the explosion occurred. Ryver pursed his lips in silence and his thoughts raced. The sound has originated from the floor below from the distant resonation of the explosion, the happening seems to have occurred on the ground floor. This was another sign.

The door to his room closed and locked as he stepped outside his room. He met about seven survivors sleeping in the hallway with a bed they had shifted. They were afraid they would be attacked once more, making him chuckle slightly because they were right.

During a moment of crisis when you were fleeing for your life. From the attack of a stronger beast, you found a place where about fifty chickens were being safely kept, fresh ones, you managed to escape. Now you're starving, wouldn't you what to check the place once more even though there was the possibility you might die?

Meaning, that there was a huge probability they would come back to visit the company once more. The saying 'Humans die for ruched and birds die for food' wasn't just said on a whim. They would come back and maybe in fewer numbers at first, but it would certainly increase.

Shaking the thought out of his head, he headed to the extreme end of the hallway and unlocked the stairway door, closing it behind him as he left.

The morning light was starting to penetrate through the foggy climate, lighting up the world bit by bit as the intensity of the sun's radiation increased enough to penetrate through to the earth's surface.

Ryver hopped through the hole of the stairs and with the Licker's Lament, he halted every ten floor he free fell, causing less noise and diminishing even more time required for him to walk down the stairs by about 95 percent.

In just a few seconds, he slowly landed on the ground floor, the pinkish-dark elongated tissue retracting back into his palm, making it tingle slightly.

He was about to open the door to the ground floor gently when his ears suddenly twitched and he paused, four glowing footsteps were heading towards his direction as though in hesitation. They were not the footsteps of zombies, they were human footsteps based on their silent and soft movements

Even with how quiet he had been, they were still able to hear him land, attracting their vigilance. An ordinary human wouldn't have been able to hear the noise he had produced from his soft landing except if their physique had been strengthened, increasing their hearing capability and their eyesight by more than three times.

With rough estimation, he calculated that they had just three to four levels in strength and in physique. From the stepping of their footsteps, they had invested only two points in agility therefore, they placed more importance on their physique and strength.

The vibrations from their footsteps ran through the ground and spread outwards in a circular ripple, oscillating towards Ryver. His head twitched slightly and he came up with their pieces of equipment.

"Tactical gas masks, probably an advanced one, a heavy military standard bulletproof body armour and certainly an assault weapon. Combat knife maybe…"

Ryver eyes abruptly flung wide open and burst out of the stair door like a raging beast, catching the two people off guard.

But although they were caught off guard, their agility gave them high reaction speed and even though Ryver had shortened the distance between the two people in just a second, they didn't need to react much as all they had to do was pull the trigger, and that they did.

The firing pin moved forward with great force, striking and igniting the primer in the cartridge base. The spark from the primer ignites the gunpowder, generating massive gas pressure. The pressure from the expanding gas forced the bullet forward and out of the barrel. The bullet's speed and escaping gases produce a loud 'bang' as the process was been repeated.

"BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!"
