15 Mind control

I woke up in the morning feeling tired and unable to move my body. I still wanted to sleep some more. Torren was already up. He was writing on his table. "Good morning my lady" Torren smiled as he looked at me. "You slept like a baby last night".

"What are you writing?" I asked going close to him to look. "Maybe a love letter to my lady" he teased me and I laughed. I held his shoulders from the back and pecked his cheek "good morning my love" . Torren loved it whenever I called him that. His cheek always heated up like frying pans.

"My love, can I ask you something?" Torren nodded "mhm" and I continued "you said you feel darkness around Freya, what does that even mean?" Torren smiled at me "Just be careful around her" .

Back in Tron, Qarinah was standing over a big pot of water looking at Diana and Torren smiling and playing with each other. She was so mad and furious. She threw something inside the pot of water with an angry groan and the images vanished. "We don't have much time, you have forgotten your assignment so quickly" she said and turned around to look at Freya who was standing there in reverence to her. "I'm sorry your highness but I cannot just strike right now. Her maid Kahlan is too smart and strong. She monitors all of my moves. She keeps getting in my way" Fraya said without looking at Queen Qarinah. "Then get rid of her. Find a way to get rid of her Freya" Freya bowed in reverence "my queen may I humbly request that you stop calling me out of the palace every time. Kahlan is already suspecting me" without a word Qarinah made her disappear and appear in the palace, in Diana's room. Just then Diana walked into the room "Freya, I was looking all over for you"

"I have been here Diana" she replied casually.

"I was here few minutes ago but I didn't see you"

"Why are you looking for me Diana?" She completely avoided the question. "Eh yes, let us have breakfast together" Freya didn't quite seem excited as she would normally seem but nevertheless, she agreed.

At the dinning she seemed quite uncomfortable answering Torren's many questions. "Where have you been all these years?" Torren asked her as we ate.

"An elven empire" she replied reluctantly.

"And you came from the elven empire straight to Darca?"

"Yes. It was quite a trip"

"Tell me how you got here on your own"

"I, I," she started coughing, "my lord, my lady, if you will excuse me" she said it and left the dinning room. Torren looked at me as if to say I told you.

I was in my room applying a new scented oil Kahlan got from mixing few petals when I heard a noises outside.I ran out to see Freya and Kahlan arguing while other maids and guards gathered to watch them.

"What is your problem Freya?" Kahlan was angry.

"Listen up serving girl, I am your Queen's guest and you should treat me the same way you treat her" Freya demanded.

"I'm sorry wannabe queen but I am not your servant and I will never serve you, neither will the other maids in this palace do so go back to any pit you came from"

Now I think Kahlan has crossed a line and I have to step in. "What is going on here?" I asked with authority. They kept on arguing until I commanded authority in a tone that my husband always did. "Kahlan, what is the meaning of this?"

"Your serving girl here would not let me send other servants on an errand" Freya started.

I turned to the other servants "Leave us now" they all dispersed.

"Kahlan what is going on?" I asked in a mild tone.

"Freya asked Ingrid to take her to the isle of elvara, I told her not anybody can go there but she wouldn't want to understand. It's a sacred Isle my lady" Kahlan explained.

"She was rude Diana, she even slapped me" Freya cried.

I was somewhat disappointed "is that true Kahlan?" I asked hoping for a negative answer from Kahlan.

"I'm sorry my lady but she raised her on Ingrid first" Kahlan didn't seem remorseful for slapping my friend.

"Diana, I demand you punish her. If you don't other maids won't learn, they'll think I am weak and will constantly insult me" Freya begged. I didn't want to punish Kahlan but then again, Freya was right. I know Torren and Kahlan have this evil opinion of her but what if they were wrong? I mean she's my best friend and my guest and should be treated with respect. After all Kahlan's opinion of her is just a suspicion and not a fact. In Darca not respecting whom respect is due to attracts spending 2 nights in the dungeon.

"Kahlan, I honestly don't want to do this to you but you really crossed a line and in the present of other servants in this palace. You'll spend a night in the dungeon, this will serve as a lesson to other maids" as I said that I couldn't even look at Kahlan but I knew she was hurt. I felt it in her voice as she responded and left.

"Thank goodness, I was beginning to think I lost my best friend" Freya was excited after Kahlan had been locked away.

Without saying a word to Freya I left to sit in the gardens. I was really restless each time I thought of Kahlan in the dungeon but then I thought she deserved it for insulting my best friend. Freya had total control of Diana's mind and thoughts. Diana couldn't help but please her. That night, Freya told me she wanted to go out for a while and that I need not worry about her, I agreed.

I didn't know where she went to neither did I know what she did there, but she came back that night. The following morning, Freya accused Kahlan of stealing her set of golden hair pins and other ornaments. We searched and really found them in Kahlan's possession.

"Diana, I understand that the punishment for stealing in this palace is banishment" Freya was totally in control.

Freya pressured me to banish Kahlan but down somewhere I could still resist her control so instead of banishing Kahlan I sent her packing.

"You have obviously lost your senses Diana" Torren was furious at me. "It's called being a fair and just queen, Torren" I left Torren who really wasn't convinced with the new me. Torren and I never had a proper conversation anymore.

That night, I was sitting on my bed thinking of Kahlan. I was gradually coming back to my senses when I heard Torren groan and struggle. I rushed to his room to see Freya standing over his body on the bed with a bloody dagger, the dagger Qarinah had poisoned together with empress Liah.

"Freya, what have you done?" I said with tears rolling down my cheeks as I stared at Torren who struggled to get up but he couldn't.
