Subsequently Thor escapes with Loki from the team's custody and carries him to a nearby forest and attempts to persuade Loki into abandoning his campaign and returning to Asgard .
But Loki, blinded by his jealousy of Thor and contempt toward Odin for never recognising his efforts , refuses.
Meanwhile Tony Stark who gets offended by Thor's behavior flies in and attacks Thor, engaging him in a battle that levels a small part of the forest.
Before any further damage can be done, Rogers intervenes and attempts to get Thor to stand down. Thor responds by lunging at Rogers with Mjolnir, only for the captain's shield to absorb the blow. Seeing that the situation was not right, Thor finally agrees to work with the humans and joins them in bringing Loki to the Helicarrier.
On the Helicarrier, Loki is imprisoned inside a cage designed to hold Bruce Banner or Hulk. At this time Fury attempts to interrogate him regarding the Tesseract's location, but Loki remains silent.
Thor who knows a little bit about the abilities of Tesseract reveals Loki's plan to the Avengers.
" With the help of Tesseract, Loki hopes to open a portal that will allow the Chitauri army access to Earth, thus beginning an alien invasion. While Stark and Banner work on locating the Tesseract, Stark is intrigued by Banner's level of control over the Hulk.
Meanwhile in a later meeting Rogers, annoyed by Stark's erratic behavior and disrespect toward authority, tries to get him to follow orders more carefully, which instigates a rivalry between the two.
Amidst their arguments, they begin to question S.H.I.E.L.D.'s intentions, deducing that Fury is hiding something regarding their plans with the Tesseract.
At which Tony reveals that he has started hacking the agency's mainframe to unlock their secrets and informs everyone how he stumbled upon "Phase 2", which is a project aimed to use the Tesseract to make weapons.
After everyone understands that this disaster was in fact actually because Fury wanted to use Tesseract to make weapons of mass destruction.
The Avengers confront Fury with their discoveries, to which he reveals that S.H.I.E.L.D. began using the Tesseract to manufacture weapons in response to the incident with the Destroyer in New Mexico.
Afterwards an argument ensues, during which the brainwashed Barton, accompanied by various soldiers also working for Loki, attacks the Helicarrier, crippling one of its engines.
The resulting explosion destroys the lab where the group is arguing, causing Natasha and Banner to fall into the boiler area, trapped by wreckage. Despite her attempts at calming him down, the injured Banner transforms into the Hulk and chases Black Widow throughout the Helicarrier.
Fortunately Thor comes to her rescue and brawls with the Hulk, only to be outclassed in strength. Seeing that Thor wasn't able to control Hulk a S.H.I.E.L.D. jet attempts to lure the Hulk away from Thor, only for the Hulk to leap at the plane and tear it apart. The jet explodes, and the Hulk is sent careening toward the ground.
Rogers and Stark try to repair the damaged engine, but Loki's underlings hinder their efforts.
On the other side Natasha confronts Barton, and after an intense fight, she is able to break Loki's control by delivering a concussive blow to Barton's head. Thor attempts to prevent Loki from escaping, but is tricked by an illusion of Loki and trapped in his former prison cell.
Coulson tries to save Thor, but Loki stabs him through the chest with his scepter and then ejects Thor from the Helicarrier. Thor breaks free from the cell at the last second, landing in a field.
Rogers and Stark also eventually overcome their aggressors and get the Helicarrier airborne again.
However, the victory is bittersweet as Loki escapes and Coulson , the good old man of Marvel, dies from his injuries.
Fury, our agent leader, attempts to use Coulson's death to motivate the Avengers into cooperating as a team, but Rogers and Stark get into another argument.
However when they realize that Loki plans to open the portal above Stark Tower, at the center of New York City, in an attempt to satisfy his ego, they decide to work together for the occasion.
Rogers, Black Widow , and Barton take a Quinjet to New York City, following Tony in his suit. Naturally Tony arrives first .
But unfortunately he fails to stop the brainwashed Selvig from using the Tesseract to open the portal in conjunction with a device he built.
Subsequently Tony confronts Loki. The two engage in a brief battle of wits, with Stark failing to intimidate Loki with his threats regarding the Avengers. Whereas Loki unsuccessfully tries to possess Stark, as his Arc Reactor physically blocks the scepter's power, and instead throws Tony through a window. Fortunately, Tony manages to activate his Mark VII armor, which attaches to him before he can hit the ground.
Tony then attempts to incapacitate Loki, but Selvig's device initiates at this time , opening a portal above New York. Following that the Chitauri fleet emerges, beginning Loki's invasion.
Barton, Natasha , Rogers, and Thor join Tony to destroy many Chitauri, but more poured from the portal. Soon enough the situation was already out of their control.
Originally according to the plot, although their condition wasn't that good . But still they were able to cope with it although a little stressed. However this time it was different.
And the reason behind this is that Hulk who was supposed to be here at this time, demolishing the Chitauri army like toys, was absent.
As for why Hulk is not present here...
Just after Alex returned back to Earth, Emma briefed him about everything that has happened till now. While Alex was still planning to wait for some time before the real action begins, he received a call from Raven.
Alex was a bit confused about why she called him at this time. If he remembered correctly she has currently gone somewhere to do shopping with Sif and spend some alone time with her. Alex also allowed it since there was still time before the war. Anyway Alex picked up the phone.
" Hey Raven? "
" Listen to me Alex. I just met the green guy you told me about before. "
Raven spoke fastly.
" Uhhh... Green guy? You mean Hulk? "
Alex asked .
" Yeah that one. "
" Wait a second. Where the hell are you guys anyway ? And how did you meet Hulk? "
Alex was really confused this time.
" Ummm..... You see, we were just relaxing in the suburbs and suddenly this guy landed from the sky. "
Hearing this Alex basically understood what was going on. This girl simply fooled Sif into visiting the farmlands in the suburb and Hulk who was ejected from the Hellicarier happened to fall in that area.
" Alright, bring him back to the base. "
Alex ordered Raven. Anyway, it wasn't half bad. Meanwhile although Raven was unwilling to end their alone time but she also knew the priorities and brought back Hulk along with Sif. Leading to the Avengers current plight.
