Chapter 41 — Asteroid Battle

Space | 7:00 PM.

A large proportion of the pilots were participating in this mission. A total of 130 units were exactly dispatched, all of them being heavily armed to overpower the Gaunas.

"This is Jason Star, the whole company's clasp formation is now complete," Jason quickly said. "We'll now proceed to the designated target as planned."

As the assigned core of this dangerous mission, Jason was responsible for several important things that didn't really affected his combat prowess.

Bzzzt!

"This is Midorikawa speaking. We have obtained new intelligence about the designated target, having confirmed about the presence of 500+ Gaunas," Yuhata replied afterwards, her voice subtlely sounding grim

This was a new kind of numbers that almost all of them haven't experienced before.

After hearing that were about 500 and more Gaunas, majority of the pilot's face turned pale blue out of asphyxiation.

Their heart was clawed by uncertainty.

"Also, another important information. One hundred and more Gaunas are densely concentrated in the large crater on the back of asteroid. We have presumably identified as a new variation of linked-type Gauna that acted as the thrusters for the asteroid."

"Hmm?" Jason narrowed his eyes upon learning about that fact.

Strange...

"Is our mission supposed to destroy the linked-type Gauna?"

"Correct," Yuhata nodded several times in agreement. "We have only four hours left until the asteroid cross the danger borderline. If that happens, the collision of it with Sidonia cannot be prevented. We must destroy the asteroid with the Anti-Planetary Missile at any cost."

"I see... The plan is to deprive the asteroid of having any capabilities to evade the missile by eliminating the linked-type Gauna, making sure it also doesn't try to use other means to block or disable the missile," Jason immediately guessed the plan after just hearing those words.

He then quickly shared his thoughts to the other pilots, issuing various commands as there were no time to waste.

The Guardian Company have already arrived close to the Asteroid.

As a result, many Gaunas began to crawl out from the asteroid to intercept them.

Hundreds of them came out, but it felt like they were just decoys to test the waters.

Yuhata immediately responded at the arrival of the Gaunas.

"Prepare for combat!"

""""Roger!"""" The pilots shouted strongly despite feeling slightly nervous.

As soon as the phrase was spoken, all the Guardian Knights had longed scattered apart while slowing down, forming into a new special combat formation that maximized the pilots' cooperation and effectiveness of the mass drivers.

The Lightning Rain Formation.

As the name implies Itself, the principles of this formations was to flood the enemies constantly with the mass drivers, not allowing them to have the chance to counterattack. It also helped as a cover for aiming ability of the mass drivers that many pilots still experience some difficulties.

Rokurome rapidly fired its own mass driver without even stopping to aim properly but still somehow rarely miss a shot. Rokurome and Jason was extremely quick and precise, earning the silence praises of his comrades and viewers.

"Hit!"

Jason saw several notifications appearing over his screens, the numbers of approaching Gaunas decreasing rapidly with the help of the other pilots.

The Gaunas were soon completely wipeout, but the ammunitions were also quite used up from the fight.

Not a single Gauna came out of the asteroid to fight them, hiding stealthily within the asteroid whose surface was covered by dense red smokes and gases that seemed to be created from placentas.

Jason felt an ominous feeling.

He inwardly knew that the true battle will only start once they stepped inside the asteroid—where numerous Gaunas were surely lying in wait for them to prey on.

It was definitely not a good idea to step inside their home ground, but they didn't have any other choices to choose from. It was impossible to destroy the linked-type gauna without going inside.

The only answer was clear to everyone currently present.

The answer was to fight directly.
