Chapter 11

(Nezu pov)

It started on an otherwise normal winter day. I had been in my office, signing off on projects, and reviewing reports, when a particularly interesting case landed on my desk, sent to me by one of my friends in the police force.

I was intrigued by what could possibly have been so important that my friend had broken confidentiality to send me such a report, so I quickly took a look at the files.

At first it seemed no more than a normal criminal case, an attacker tries to murder someone, and fails for one reason or another, fleeing the scene, leaving behind their victim, dead, dying, or perfectly fine, in this case a young, heavily injured teen. But quickly the details of the case attracted my undivided attention.

They had found the boy, lying on his back, within a large 5 meter crater, almost perfectly round aside from the severe damage surrounding the crater, as if the site of a large explosion, missing a significant portion of his neck, and bleeding profusely. But showing no external damage otherwise despite the destruction of the surrounding environment.

The boy had quickly been rushed to Sapporo hospital, and put into immediate emergency surgery, while the police officers began to investigate the crime scene.

The boy in question, a young teen, was identified as one Fenrir lýkos, he was a boy of remarkable build, more man than child, standing an impressive 195cm, sporting an impressive physique that would put professional's to shame, platinum blonde/gray hair that reached the center of his back, a pair of 15cm tall wolf ears, along with a meter long tail, and a pair of 25cm black, voidlike bladelike horns, covered in small specks of light, reminiscent of stars in space.

Interestingly, under his quirk, it simply read "Fenrir." same as his name, likely both inspired by the mythological Norse wolf, it unfortunately did little to explain his quirk, but the rest of the files gave ample idea.

But his impressive build was hardly what caught my attention, no, what really interested me, What really interested me was the evidence that the hardworking investigators had managed to piece together, the most important of which being a short, almost 2 minute video, that they had managed to recover from a nearby cctv camera whose storage had survived the carnage.

Quickly putting the video up on a projector, I watched in curiosity as the scene unfolded before me. Any doubts I previously held on the importance of this case quickly dispelled by its contents.

I watched as the scene played out, the way the child entered the alley for unknown reason, although the police claimed that when they found the phone and unlocked it to search for family contacts to inform of the tragedy it had been opened to a map of the nearby area, so they concluded he had simply been taking a shortcut. The disturbing calm with which the child looked at the mutilated corpse, although potentially attributed to shock, the lack of reaction was worrying, and I noted potential mental illness.

The way he effortlessly dodged the thrown knife, as if he had seen it long before it reached him, despite both wearing a blindfold and facing the opposite direction. As he seamlessly spun around and caught the attacker by their neck, holding them out of arm's reach by taking advantage of his longer arms,  as his face displayed no emotions, even as his attacker helplessly swung his knife mere centimeters from his face. His head only tilting slightly as if confused. Or amused, by the situation.

I watched as the knife suddenly ten times its original length, piercing deep within the boy's neck, as the flesh tore unnaturally, as if the knife was tearing through kevlar instead of flesh, as a deep black ichor that seemingly absorbed all light, poured from the open wound.

I watched as the child stumbled backwards, falling to his back, as the flow of blood abruptly waned, as if the wound had been covered by a bandage, despite the distinct lack of anything of the sort. Likely using his quirk in some way to reduce blood loss.

I watched as the attacker mounted the child, preparing to stab him through the chest, and the strange scene where time seemed to stop, the screen black, as if no light reached the camera, before returning moments later as a massive explosion of energy tore the ground apart, everything within 5 meters of the boy, both concrete, earth, and his attacker, simply ceased to exist in a violent display of destruction, as buildings shook, windows shattered, and concrete was pulverized, the video finally finishing as the ever expanding wave of destruction reached the fragile construct.

I simply sat there, sipping tea, staring at the empty wall, as I thought to myself, my paws shaking slightly as I compared the shear destruction, reminiscent of a nuclear bomb, if on a much smaller scale, that the boy had caused, whether by accident, or on purpose, mattered little, as I began to prepare plans.

The boy's quirk was far to dangerous for him to be left alone, lest he fall to villany, lose control again, or god forbid get his quirk stolen by AFO, the though eliciting a shudder, despite my knowledge of the man's death, I couldn't help but worry about the possibility of his survival, after all, no matter how much the evidence pointed towards his death, there had been no body, and as such, no guarantee.

I quickly got to work, knowing well that the child would be unable to avoid legal trouble from the case, as even if it was self defense, and unintentional, he had killed a man, even if said man was a murderer. Although it was never a bad Idea to be sure, so I pulled some strings to get some people I knew to have a bias against powerful quirks, on the boys jury.

Then, turning around, I sent an offer to the boy's family I knew they would struggle to refuse, offering to protect him against any legal trouble, in exchange for the boy joining UA, my intention to simply argue to the court that UA would be the best place to teach him to control his quirk, as well as prevent any further accidents, and prevent him from getting in trouble.

I was surprised when the offer was not immediately accepted, a quick background check on the boys parents showing they both worked lower mid level positions in the Mycelium group, I knew things would not go as easy as I may have hoped, the mycelium conglomerate was renowned for only ever heiring the cream of the crop within the main branch, and as such even people in the lower level positions were hard to deal with, just remembering the one time I had interacted with the famous Okami family bringing a shiver to my spine.

Luckily it was not flat out rejected, and I knew this likely meant they would accept, if not after some negotiations of course, and as I expected, just 2 days later, I was called up by the mother, who told me the boy in question had just woken up from his injuries, and was ready to talk.

Instantly, my mood improved, the fact that they were allowing their child to take part in the negotiations gave me leverage, after all, what young person doesn't want to become a hero in today's society, as I also made sure to have Allmight accompany me to the negotiations, after all, what else to sweeten the deal than having the number one hero himself, who all young people respected and adored, at the table.

Or so I had thought, so why do I shiver before the boy, as his empty, half lidded gray eyes seem to bore holes into my very soul? as the light streaming in through the hospital window seemed to wrap around him, as if he was a divine entity even light itself respected. and the atmosphere felt heavy and suffocating, an almost primal instinct to kneel whispering its way into my mind, as if an instinctive reaction of a mortal in the presence of a superior creature. I quickly motion for Allmight to enter the room, expecting to see the boys eyes light up like so many other children's had, quickly following by this atmosphere disappearing, so I could take control of negotiations like I had originally planned. only for me to watch as his gaze flicked to the imposing form of Allmight, his expression completely unchanged, the pressure on me disappearing, as I watched Allmight himself stiffen, sweat pooling behind his neck, as I saw the confusion evident within the large man's eyes, and while my plans fell apart around me, I could at least take solace in the fact that even Allmight himself was overwhelmed by the boys presence.

(an, I had to rewrite this chapter a few times before I was happy with it, but I think it turned out well in the end, hope you guys enjoyed.)
