A new job prospect

[next morning]

Walking through the busy halls of Shield, agent Coulson tapped a few times on the tablet in his hands, playing the video over and over again.

Stopping in front of the large doors of his bosses office, he paused the video before stepping into the office.

"Good morning, sir." Coulson said as he closed the doors behind him.

"Mhm." Fury grumbled as he sipped his coffee.

"I have the video from the German hospital." Coulson said as he set the tablet on Furys desk.

Setting down his mug, Fury grabbed the tablet and pressed play.

As the video progressed, Furys eyebrows creased as the video continued to change angles to follow someone.

As the video came to an end, Fury set the tablet down.

"Impressive…" Fury said thoughtfully as he leaned back in his chair.

"More so sir when you account for him being a sniper and not some infantry grunt." Coulson said, sliding a vanilla folder onto Furys desk, while ignoring the look Fury gave him about that jab at infantry grunts.

"A successful sniper at that." Coulson added.

"97 confirmed kills in a four month span, one of which was a record setting 1,608 meter shot. He was to be shipped to a group of other recon marines in Kandahar for some black out operations run by the CIA but his plane was shot down while on approach to Kandahar air base. He was the only survivor." Coulson said, as he waited for his boss to read through the folder.

Fury chuckled dryly as he flopped the folder down.

"The Demon." Fury said with a shake of the head.

"The Cheesy names these marines come up with and call themselves."

"Actually sir it was the Taliban who started to call him that…not other soldiers." Coulson clarified.

Fury gave him a dry look, before letting out a sigh.

"Did Barton find out what was producing those electromagnetic fields?" Fury asked.

"No sir. We even sent in a specialist team with equipment, but nothing was found."

"then it was a malfunction." Fury asked.

Coulson shrugged.

"Most likely sir. From the video we managed to recover from the hospitals survers we never saw anything leaving the building. The satellite is a prototype, So there is a very strong possibility it was a malfunction." Coulson said.

"mmhm." Fury mumbled in a thoughtful tone.

"I don't like coincidences." Fury said.

"the odds that we pick up readings of something that could be dangerous, then there just so happens to be an attack at that very place." Fury shook his head.

"there's something we're missing,"

Coulson raised a brow.

"I want every person in that hospital questioned." Fury said, standing from his chair.

"And I want the prisoner brought here to be questioned…my way." Fury said coldly.

"Yes sir." Coulson said, turning to leave.

"one more thing." Fury said, standing in front of one of the large windows in his office.

"Yes sir?" Coulson asked, turning back to his boss.

"I want this Andrew Cole pulled and placed under us." Fury said, not looking away from the window.

"Wipe his involvement clean. He was never there."

"Wake up" a man's voice said in a heavy German accent, startling me awake.

Opening my blurry eyes, I looked around.

"I don't remember asking for a wakeup call." I grumbled, as I rolled over and put my back to the man.

"Yeah, well someone made one for you. Now wakey wakey." the man said, before flashing my room's lights a few times, before leaving it on.

"For fuck sake. Can I just get one day off for once.'' I whined as I rolled onto my back.

"I survived a plane crash three days ago, then I stopped a terrorist attack in the very hospital I was sent to yesterday." I continued as I threw my blankets off.

After the terrorist attack had been stopped yesterday, and I was cleared as not being a terrorist but in fact a patient of the hospital, I was sent to a normal hospital in Berlin along with half of the other patients that were at the hospital.

Sitting up in my bed, I rubbed my eyes for a few seconds before I put my legs over the side of the bed.

At the moment I was wearing a pair of baby blue nurse scrubs pants that I had been handed after taking a shower when I had arrived.

I wasn't sure why I wasn't given a shirt, but by the time I was done with the shower I didn't really care, and only wanted to sleep.

Leaning over, I saw a pair of pink bunny slippers with ears next to my bed, clearly there for my use.

'Fuck it.' I thought as I put them on.

As I shuffled to the door of my room, the smell of coffee hit my nose, forcing me to whip a stream of drool from my face.

'Coffee.' I thought, with a small smile, as I swung my door open.

Continuing my expedition down the bright hallway, I followed the scent of liquid gold.

As I passed a nurses station, I listened as the female nurses whispered to each other quietly in German as I went.

I was sure they were talking about me, but I didn't really care at the moment.

Going around a corner, I saw a small open sitting area where there was a small coffee maker brewing away.

Putting on the boosters, I shuffled towards the coffee maker.

Once there, I grabbed one of the paper cups and pressed the small red button that started the pour of my coffee.

"Good morning Mister Cole." A man behind me said in an American accent.

I ignored him as I continued to fill my cup.

"Mister Cole?" The man said, sounding concerned.

Again I ignored him, as I brought the coffee cup up and under my nose.

Taking in a lung full of the strong aroma, I let out a sigh and took a sip of the black coffee.

"Oh that's some good shit." I said, as a smile grew across my face.

Now finally with my much needed fix, I turned to face whoever was trying to get my attention.

The man was of average height, with dark brown hair that was thinning at the top, with blue eyes.

He was wearing an expensive looking black suit, with well polished loafers.

"Yes?" I asked, raising my cup for another sip.

"Hello. I'm Agent Coulson, with shield." he said, handing me a card.

Grabbing the card, I looked it over.

All it had was a weird looking symbol with "Agent Coulson" right underneath, with a phone number.

I looked up from the card.

"What the hell is shield?" I asked, flipping the card over to see the back of the card was blank.

"SHIELD stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division." Agent Coulson said in his monotone voice.

I looked at him for a second before I took another sip of my coffee.

"That's quite the mouth full." I said, turning my back to this Agent Coulson to pour myself another cup.

"And why exactly are you here?" I asked, turning back to the man.

"I'm a soldier. Not some government lap dog." I said, shuffling past him to take a seat at one of the close by chairs.

"Mister Cole, I hope you see the Irony of your words." Agent Coulson said, taking the seat opposite me.

I grimaced at his truthful words.

"You just like me are the lap dogs of our Governments." Coulson said, setting a leather binder down on the chair next to him, before continuing.

"except for a few exceptions." Coulson said, a small smile creasing his lips.

I raised a brow as I slowly sat forward in my chair.

"And that would be?" I asked.

"Shield go after the real bad guys. Not some sand farmers who picked up a rifle and decided to fight. which are the people you have been fighting against. We go after those who want mass destruction, Government collapse, full on anarchy." Coulson said, his voice now like Iron.

"And there's no govermental bureaucracy hanging over our heads like some other agentcys. If we find any evidence on someone, we act. We don't hold back then ask for promison first and let them slip away or hurt others before we get the go ahead." Coulson said, saying everything I wanted to hear.

Which…made me a bit cautious.

Every word he just said could just be some lie.

I leaned back sharply in my chair and looked Coulson over again, reavaluating the man.

"How come I've never heard of your organization before?" I asked.

"SHIELD is a black out Organization. It's only known by very few, such as the president, the security General, and other high ranking individuals." Coulson said, as if reading his answer from a script.

I nodded my head.

I had heard that some organizations like that existed.

Of course it was all just word of mouth, but most stories have a speck of truth to them.

"And why exactly are you telling me all of this?" I asked.

"I'm sure you don't normaly go around running your mouth like this to random people in the open." I said, taking a sip of my now cold coffee.

Coulson leaned to the side and grabbed the leather journal from the chair next to him.

Flipping it open, he turned it around and handed it to me.

"We are offering you a job."
