Underworld: Carbon

When the world changed all those years ago and people started to gain superpowers everyone thought they were living their wildest dreams. Everyone knew that things were about to change, that the world was about to enter a new age, an age of evolution. When I first got my powers I had no idea what to do with them, not because I didn't know what to do with them but because I didn't know where to start. I had no direction, but I had ambition. I knew I wasn't a good person and me gaining my powers wasn't going to change that either, I knew I wanted to reach the top but I didn't know the journey that I would take would be more brutal and dark than anything I've ever faced before. Looking back at it people have asked me if I had any regrets on my path and every time they ask I look back and everything that I've ever done and everything that got me to where I am. I laugh and turn to look at them and say this: "Fuck no. If I had the chance I would do it all again." *** I don't own the cover *** Earth in this novel is set in an alternate reality/universe so don't use common sense here.

[Potential Rating: S+]

I hissed reading the description of my Esper Ability. Calling this ability broken would be an understatement, in the right hands this ability could be extremely dangerous.

Energy Manipulation didn't just limit me to Esper Abilities but extended to all professions, I have no idea if this extended to qi but I was confident it did since qi is just another form of energy.

With this, I could have possession of every type of energy possible and be unstoppable, granted I'm not going to do that in any way. I've always been a quality-over-quantity type of person, I would rather have a few but very effective and useful abilities rather than have a lot of abilities with only a few useful ones.

"I need to find an energy type to recreate so I can use that as a front for my real ability. Revealing Energy Manipulation is just asking for trouble." I sighed, The world of supers was simple, the strong devoured the weak. If some organization found out about my ability they wouldn't even bother to negotiate with me, I would be kidnapped, enslaved, and then used to do their bidding.

"I need some clothes, I'm dressed in fucking rags." I lamented, "I need to look presentable at least, I look like a fucking bum." I grumbled.

I picked up the briefcase and spun around a couple of times before I swung it wildly in the air. Looking up only to see a small blip in the air slowly falling down I followed its path until it make a small splash into the ocean.

Seeing the only remaining piece of evidence of my theft of the S-Grade potion sink to the bottom of the sea I smiled, "Now that that's been handled I can now focus on my new beginning."

Sneaking over the wall and landing on the ground I dusted off my clothes and walked out of the dark alley I landed in. There was no way I was going to be able to enter this place the conventional way, not only do I look like a beggar based on my clothes I can't risk anyone noticing me, especially since I would most likely have to rob a few people to get on my feet.

But it was not all dull when I was finding out a way to sneak over the wall, I was able to find out where I was and I couldn't believe how good my luck was.

I somehow landed in Zone 3 which was in the southern area of America. If compared to America's past geography when they originally stated I was technically in Florida right now which was the best-case scenario based on the current situation.

Zone 3 was a high tier Zone in the United Zones of America it was a place of opportunity to sum it up. You could find anything here and it was one of the most populated Zones in the country.

But there was something else that made Zone 3 the metropolis that it was, it was a gateway to the criminal underworld.

I was not a saint, that was something I knew for sure but I haven't done anything major. Sure, I've robbed and beat people up but nothing as serious as murder...at least not until recently that is. But even then I was a criminal, a thug, a scum of society those wealthy superfamilies that sat at the top would call me, but all that changed when I got my powers.

They say that with great powers comes great responsibilities and that you should use them for the good of the world. But what if the world you were about to enter was a dark, cruel, and ruthless world where you would have to forsake every moral, commit vile sins and in most cases have to lose your humanity to survive? Where you would end up becoming something that people would think they never would?

I for damn sure wasn't going to no damn academy, that was just asking for trouble. I would have to deal with all those heirs and heiresses and I would be dumb getting into unnecessary conflict.

But I do sound hypocritical since I was planning to enter the criminal underworld, a place where unnecessary conflict is such a guarantee that it is a normal occurrence.

"I need money to buy some clothes and a place to stay. Once I get settled then I'll start asking around, although I don't want to ask too much and get mistaken as a fed. That'll get me killed real quick." I said walking out of the alley and then taking a left down the street.

Zone 3 was very vibrant and filled with life and all sorts of activities. From street vendors to luxury shops, to gun vendors and prostitutes, Zone 3 had it all.

Getting lost in the scenery of the atmosphere I was pulled out of my daze when I bumped into what seemed to be a wall but when I looked forward I knew where this was going to lead.

What stood in front of me was a man dressed in blue aristocratic clothes, his build was tall and elegant. He was taller than me but not enough to the point where I had to raise my head, he had aqua-blue hair and scarlet eyes. He was handsome. He definitely had hoes lined up like a buffet.

He had a lofty and indifferent look on his face but when he looked at me I could feel my skin crawl as he gazed at me with contempt and superiority.

He had two masked men dressed in the same black outfits that were standing next to him, they didn't have the intimidating and imposing stance and aura that most bodyguards have so I just ignored him and looked at the aristocratic-dressed dude standing in front of me.

"My bad, I wasn't looking." I apologized and shifted to the left to continue walking but when I took my first step forward he sidestepped in front of me blocking my way again.

I stepped back and gave him an annoyed glare but he responded with a smirk on his face. I laughed inwardly at this fool. He had no idea that things were going to end in a way he didn't foresee.

Just when I needed a way to find some money looks who decided to offer some to me. It would be rude of me to decline such an offer so I'll happily accept.
