Under the Veil of Night

In the City of Crime, one law stands above them all: Only the strongest can live. Fighting is normal, extortion is common, and death is inevitable. Born into a wealthy family yet forced to live in poverty, Kanae Nali vowed to become strong enough to take back what rightfully belonged to her—even if it meant that she had to face the consequences and brave the dangers lurking in every corner. Yet on the outside, just like her mysterious peers, she was no different from the other high school students living their lives to the fullest. “Under the ray of light, my ability will only make me die faster. Under the veil of night, my ability allows me to survive longer.” ____ Story set in fictional city. Any similarities with real world's event is purely coincidence. He’s Still Alive (1)

Kanae returned back to her room as her mind thought about Laura's appearance just now. She was pretty sure that Jason should be in a nearby room, but she decided not to visit the man. It would be better to wait until Laura had returned back home first.

Klek! (sound of the door opened)

"You have returned?" Kevin was sitting on his chair as he glanced at the door. His messy hair and tired eyes made him look completely different than his usual self.

"I just pay a short visit to the others," Kanae replied. "How's your wound, Kevin?"

"It's not too bad. I'm not wounded as hard as you imagine me to be."

"Are you sure?" Kanae peered close to Kevin. It was easy to spot those bruises on the man's body, especially when they were not being covered.
