Alex was seated in between her grandparents as they served them tea.
Her hand in her grandmother's palms, she was smiling letting her warmth feel her up.
She had always been envious of people with grandparents and now she had her own. Her eyes moved to Nathan who was next to her two uncles.
She had noticed they didn't like each other that much.
"All these years that heartless man hid you away. You must have suffered" her Uncle Jonathan said.
"He wasn't that bad, he treated me well all these years," she said.
Her grandfather turned to her, "Child, he might have raised you but it was out of guilt. He and that snake wife of his led to your parent's death".
"I agree with you Father, did you see the news about her? She was a witch through and through. They are lucky to have hidden away long this time but I would have handled her" Jonny said.
"Well.... my boyfr...their curious eyes turned to her,... I mean Nathan handled her. I don't think she can hurt me anymore "she said.
Her grandparents smiled, "he told us about that too but now we don't want to know about them but you, dear"
"Me?"
They all nodded and smiled eagerly.
....
Nathan had left with her uncles to give her some time with her grandparents. They were now in the garden, Alex was peeling some apples for them as she chatted.
They had asked her a few questions and slowly she opened up without knowing she was.
"And sometimes we would sneak out with mom on the weekends and go out on picnics. Her cooking is the best, especially her desserts" she smiled..... "but now Nathan seemed to be getting better at it than her. I love his dishes"
Her grandmother smiled feeding her a slice of an apple.
"They both love you so much," she said.
Alex nodded, "And I love them both so much".
"So how did you meet that cold boy, Nathan," her grandfather asked.
"Oh, during a night out with my sister. Something happened & I ran out and he found me" she said.
Her grandparents frowned, "And?".
"And, he dropped me home" she said.
Her grandmother smiled, "You don't want to tell us"
"And you don't have to, we just wanted to know how you could break the ice from his cold heart. He a good boy but has never seemed to be the type to have a heart, sometimes I worried that he would end up an old bachelor" her grandfather laughed.
She laughed.
"You're a sweet soul, my child, does he deserve you," her grandmother said.
"He's not that bad as you think, to me he's warm, sweet and loving. Sometimes I worry it's me who isn't worthy of his love" she let out.
"Really?"
She nodded, "He might be cold to others but that's to those who don't know him".
"You love him, don't you?" she heard her grandmother ask.
Her eyes lightened up as she smiled, "Mmm, I do"
They giggled, "That's good enough for us"
