Catching Up, Coming Clean!

After reading the description of the artifact, Dan started to think. It's an extremely powerful artifact, maybe I should talk to Tony about it when I reach that point. It would certainly be a great way to give an advantage in adverse situations, but its technological capabilities would be astonishing. I could probably get into that field myself, but it would be better to let my brain evolve to a point where it can handle a lot more.

Then again, once my mental stat increases past 50, I'll be able to achieve a lot more. They had now arrived at Dan's apartment complex, and he got out, saying his goodbyes to Carlson. He was still lost in thought as he headed back up to his apartment. Just as he was about to reach it, he could suddenly make out hushed voices. It seems that my hearing was massively affected too, I wouldn't normally hear whispering unless I was very close to the people doing it!

Dan quietly opened the door to the flat, and then spoke out loud. "So, why are you all whispering about me?"

The whispering suddenly stopped, and Andrei poked his head around the corner. "So it was you Dan! We were starting to wonder where you'd run off to? I'm guessing it was some work-related emergency. By the way, since when did your hearing become so acute? You also look like you've lost a lot of weight in no time at all!"

I guess I have a lot of explaining to do, I've already told Andrei a little about it. I may as well tell everyone else here a little about it, they are a secretive bunch after all. "I guess it's time to tell them Andrei, as for where I was, Alejandro, the one who recruited me, called me up to ask me to do some filming. Powerhouse and Jewel were about to raid one of the Cartel's stashes, and I was one of the only people who answered Alejandro's call to action."

Dan sighed tiredly before continuing, "it ended up being a decoy, but man, it was an unforgettable experience to see them in action."

He let this information sink in before continuing, Andrei seemed impressed but didn't seem too surprised for some reason. Hernando, a Hispanic man in his early 30s, and a long time friend of Dan and Andrei's was the first to respond. "I heard that you'd been employed at The Front Line, but you already got the chance to see the heroes in action, how was it?"

Dan had expected this sort of response, to his friends, he was known to be extremely honest about almost anything. If he ever kept something a secret, then that meant it was a very serious matter indeed. "It was every bit as incredible as it was on TV, it was even more intense, these cartel members were taking some sort of crazy performance-enhancing drug, one of them even got up after receiving a roundhouse kick from Jewel, he was badly injured though."

"They also had some crazy armour that seemed to melt all nearby metal within a radius, it also absorbed the impact of explosive rounds, it was completely unscathed. I'm not allowed to tell you anymore than that sadly. It's all Stark military tech after all."

Everyone apart from Andrei seemed to be staring at him with awe, Andrei seemed excited at the prospect though. Ever perceptive, Hernando spoke up again, "you have something to tell us Dan, and Andrei already knows about it, don't tell us its something like you having powers."

Andrei immediately turned to stare at the man, Dan's eyes widened considerably. Hernando looked from one to the other, "wait, seriously? Dan has powers, I thought we agreed to hide nothing from each other!"

Dan sighed, "I only discovered it a few months ago to be honest, it was very subtle at first too. My abilities are Adaptive Evolution and Infinite Potential, I think you all know what that entails. That's why I've been losing weight so quickly, I've also become a lot stronger, and I can run a good bit faster too. My mental acuity and wisdom has increased too. I can also adapt to any situations anywhere between 8 and 160x faster than normal, the same goes for evolution."

Estrella, a young woman in her mid 20s who lived in the room next door to Dan suddenly held her hands up. "Woah there, slow down a bit, Adaptive Evolution, I'm guessing that it's as overpowered as it sounds. So, if you were to practice anything once, would that have the same effect as practicing that one action up to 160 times in a row? I've heard that you can become an expert in any field if you put 10,000 hours into it.

This means that you'd only have to use as little as 62.5 hours or 1,250 hours at most."

Dan's mouth dropped open, Estrella was an incredibly smart woman, he knew that much. Or am I just an idiot? How come I didn't think of something so obvious? Then again, math has never really been my strong point. Revealing my powers to everyone I know also isn't the smartest decision now that I think about it, oh well, it's too late now!

"Yes, you are correct on all fronts Estrella. That applies to both physical and mental exercise, and just about any activity. Of course that means that my body is incredibly sore after a workout, but that doesn't last very long, since the effects of my ability also apply to my recovery abilities. I don't think I've ever felt this good in my life, and it has only continued to go uphill. There are also people I can't really tell though, otherwise I'll end up in some government scientist's lab in no time."

Andrei clenched his fists when he heard that, "I won't let that happen, don't you worry about that!"

The others all agreed that it would be better to keep everything Dan had said within this room. Dan then looked at the CCTV camera mounted on the ceiling, "well, our landlord probably knows by now too."

This caused everyone else to look up at him, and then in the direction he was looking too.
