Back to Square One

The handsome stranger aka Gu Yichang adjusted the rear view mirror in a way that he could see Li Anzi in the backseat. Meanwhile in the backseat of the car, two people were involved in a violent texting battle.

Wen Li : "Ask for his number before we get down"

Li Anzi : "??? ARE YOU MAD???"

Wen Li : "I can see that he has succeeded in seducing you ;) "

Li Anzi looks at WenLi in disbelief and texts : "STFU"

Wen Li huffs and types: "Said truth fellow user"

Wen Li continues texting: "oh, a handsome guy comes my way and attracts me like a magnet. I cannot see the way forward as his aura fogs my vison. I am confused by him. Am I lost?"

Li Anzi: "Where does this come from now?"

WenLi: "I saw your eyes singing this"

Li Anzi rolls her eyes in exasperation.

WenLi: " I will give you 10 seconds after the car stops, if not I will take action".

Wen Li attaches a sticker of a witch with an evil laughter.

Li Anzi:" I said STOP"

Wen Li: "Okay. Don't take any action. I will ask for his number. But I can't help if he thinks I did it for you...."

"Damn! The road is blocked"

The phone slipped from Anzi's hands. Yichang's voice seems to have affected her.

"Seems like the blood flow to someone's head is also blocked"

He looked through the rear view mirror and winked at her.

WenLi once again fails to hold her mouth closed. "You look so hot, gentleman".

"Likewise to you" Gu Yichung said as he chuckled.

"Ah! Sadly, hot goes well with cold. My friend here. ..

Wen Li looks beside her. A pair of eyes were throwing daggers at her.

"Ladies, sit tight", The driver reminded us.

"We are sorry we distracted you". Li Anzi said politely.

"It feels good to be young" He said as if he was trying to remember something.

The car slowed down to a stop. There were some cars in the front.

"There could be a minor delay." The driver said.

Li Anzi heard her stomach growling and thought in private "Why do I need to be so unfortunate today?"

WenLi voiced out her thoughts, loud enough for everyone to hear.

"My poor tummy! when am I going eat my fill? It is so hard to be an intern student. You have to work day and night and even miss out on lunch."

Wen Li finishes her dramatic performance. Li Anzi saw another chapter from Wen Li's book of seduction titled "The tactics of unintentionally divulged information and baiting of the fish" being played out.

Yichang: " sorry to hear that you have to return for night shifts".

Wen Li was happy for the reply. "Buut night shifts are comparatively free. You can always adjust the schedule and may be go out for a walk or you know...engage in the activities of the night" Wen Li left out some things in ambiguity.

On the otherhand, Li Anzi's patience was running out.

"really? I didn't know it was that flexible". Yuchang replied somewhat unconvinced.

"As it stands, even tonight is unpredictable" Wen Li adds.

"Beep". Wen Li's phone receives a message notification.

Li Anzi: " Don't you feel like you are behaving more and more like a girl looking for a hook up? "

Wen Li: "I am just testing him, If he fails, we dump him. Otherwise I recommend you to him"

Li Anzi: " Enough. Stop."

"But your friend here is not" Yuchang states.

"pardon?" Wen Li looks up from her phone in bafflement.

"I said you are not unpredictable" Yichang looks at Li Anzi through the mirror and continues "You look pretty straightforward to me".

Li Anzi,who had been observing him so far is unable to understand his intention. "What is he playing at?", She thinks to herself.

"But your behaviour screams dangerously unpredictable to me " She says.

"There are only a handful who can see through me in the first meeting". He smiles.

Wen Li makes a coughing gesture and says it aloud "You guys seem to have what the other lacks. why not give it a try?

she stopped because there wasn't any sound in the cab. She looked at Li Anzi whose eyes were fixed somewhere in the front.

Rewind: 2 seconds :Li Anzi

"There are only a handful who can see through me in the first meeting"

Our eyes lock in the mirror. In the periphery of my vision, I saw him taking something out off his sleeves. Next moment it made its way into the neck of the driver.

Wen Li looks at the driver with a syringe on his neck. She opens her mouth to scream.

"Don't" Wen Li looks at Li Anzi in horror. She was calm and repeats " Don't scream". But Wen Li continues to stare at her.

Li Anzi turns and looks at the mirror and spots a pair of eyes waiting to connect with hers.

Yichang opens the door and gets out.

Wen Li: "What the heck is going on, Anzi?.

Putting her fingers on her mouth she says: "wait".

Wen Li: "This is a muder"

Li Anzi shakes her head "He is not dead"

Wen Li turns notices the faint breathing of the driver.

Anzi lays back in the seat and looks at Yichang leaning on the car door smoking a cigarette.

"Do you remember Han Chen, from Memory Lost?" "Wen Li?"

"not now, Anzi" Wen Li slumps against the seat.

"His stubble looks good"

"STFU Anzi"

"Said the truth fellow user". Li Anzi replies only to be greeted back by a deep grunt.

Li Anzi stretches her hands and places it on the window. If not for the closed window, she could easily have reached him. Anzi lowers the window.

"Hey, we are hungry"

Yichang stares at her.

" I renege my words. you are crazy unpredictable."

"Thanks for the compliment" Li Anzi replies in a low laughter. Her phone beeps.

Wen Li: "what kind of sh*** flirting is going on.?"

Li Anzi : "My kind"

Wen Li gives up texting.

Li Anzi sees some shadows moving in her line of sight. A guy in a police uniform was approaching Yichang. She closes the window.

Yi Chang moves away from the car with Si Min. "Take the body back and wait for my orders. Chen Yi isn't here yet?"

"Captain is on his way. Everyone else is here" Si Min replies.

Yi Chang nods and turns his face.

"Bring back these ladies something light for lunch"

"uh?" Si Min asks in disbelief.

Yi Chang looks annoyed and says "Do as I say"

"But, don't we need to take them in for questioning?" Si Min was surprised. Their usually strict Vice Captain was acting weird today.

"No, they are with us in this. Now get those things done. Go" Yi Chang commands.

He feels someone's gaze on his body and looks away in annoyance. He was annoyed at the audacity of that little girl to probe him. His obvious discomfort was visible to Li Anzi. But that never stopped her. Her eyes continue to pursue him as if she has spotted a prey.

Inside the car.

Wen Li :" I never thought you had fall so hard in just a few minutes "

Li Anzi: "I scared him away though"

Wen Li "already?"

The front door opens and two people in police uniform takes away the driver who is still unconscious.

Another knocks on the window. Li Anzi lowers it. He gives them two wrapped sandwiches. Li Anzi says "Thankyou" and passes one to Wenli.

"Atleast he has got a conscience." Wen Li remarks.

By the time Li Anzi finished eating, Yichang had dissapeared from her line of vison.

After a while, he comes back with another guy. That guy gets into the vacant driver's seat.

He turns and smiles ."Hi ladies, I will be your driver for the rest of the ride."

Wen Li seems to have retained her composure after that unsettling experience. " Handsome driver, you don't have to worry about the next ride. There will be girls flocking around you at the city centre".

"Sorry, but we are not going to the city centre". The driver replies.

"pardon" Wen Li is again caught off-guard .

We lock eyes in the mirror .

He says "Hospital"

The car makes a U turn. I close my eyes and leans against the seat.... looks like I am back to square one.
