The Final Product and Hunger

POV Change - Edythe Cullen

I was barely shocked when I saw William break the restraints. I barely even flinched when he tore the operating table from the ground where it had been bolted, throwing it at the screen that was between me and him.

I just watched.

Even if he was a Child of the Moon, I didn't want him to be alone. I couldn't leave him to face this alone. Not when I could hear the pain in his hoarse voice. Not when I could see the confusion in his eyes.

He needed me more than ever right now. And it wasn't some silly lust over his scent that kept me here. I felt something for this man that I'd never felt in my hundred years of un-living.

I would be betraying those feelings and what they stood for if I walked away right now.

William was currently in a hunched over position, his legs spread wide and his arms hanging straight down, looking like a puppet's arms if the strings controlling them were cut. His head was tilted to the ground, yet I could still see his eyes darting around the room frantically.

His breath came out hot and steamy, like an angry bull's. Even through the glass, I felt like I was standing next to an open fire. The air shimmied around him, rebuffed by the waves of heat that billowed off of him. The very air shook, like it was scared of what was to come. Yet I felt no fear. Only worry and a sort of phantom pain in my chest.

Everything went silent for a few seconds before finally, it begun.

First came the sound of bones snapping. It'd been a constant noise on the way over here but only now was I understanding that those bone crunching noises were the prelude to what was happening now.

Rapid cracks and snaps echoed through the room, sounding like crackers being stepped on. William brought his rapidly enlarging arms to his head, the claws on his hands digging into the skin there.

He began to scratch.

Flesh and blood tore off of him in droves, falling to the floor, only for new flesh to take it's place in less than a second. But he didn't stop scratching. Instead, he sped up. All the while, his body cracked and snapped into odd positions like a contortionist gone wrong.

Any other day, I would've been struggling to hold back my thirst seeing William's blood in front of me...but right now I didn't feel hungry. I just felt pained and hollow seeing this person I adored going through so much pain. And despite seeing it, knowing how much it hurt him...I could do nothing to help him.

I could only watch.

William's shouts took on a more animalistic sound, turning into roars that shook the surrounding glass. The roars began to pick up in intensity and volume before reachng a crescendo where William stopped scratching his face and looked straight up to the ceiling, letting lose a roar that knocked the air away from him for a few seconds.

His face looked...different. His facial bone structure, like the rest of his body, was changing. Elongating, curving and twisting in completely inhuman ways.

His mouth spread wide, teeth dropping from his mouth - his human teeth - and being replaced with large fangs, dripping with both spittle and blood. His mouth stated to elongate, sickly crunches coming from the bones that made me cringe, but...it looked wrong. It didn't look like a wolf's maw.

It looked...feline. Slightly more pronounced than a big cats maw but still having the same shape.

I found myself momentarily confused before the answer quickly started to show itself. Fur began to sprout from William's body as his musculature began to bulk up very heavily.

By now his clothes were beginning to rip and shred under the rapid growth William's body was going through. But it wasn't over at that. William, with his claws, began to tear at not just the clothes but the skin on his body that seemed to be both blocking his growth and the fur from coming out.

The claws on his hand easily ripped and cut through the skin, showing the bloody furred coat underneath.

Orange, black stripes and bits of white. Each of his hands was red raw and the claws were bigger than before, showing that most of the claw had been hidden under the skin. The claws didn't come out of the ends of the fingers - they WERE the ends of the fingers for William right now. But I wasn't focused on that.

I was focused on that appearance and the prehensile tail twirling and swishing with casual movements.

He didn't look like a Child of the Moon. Not the ones I'd seen.

He looked like a massive Humanoid Tiger. He was bigger than any Child of the Moon I'd ever seen. While they were around 8 and a half feet tall, William right now was nearly breaching the 10 foot region. The ceiling for the basement was only 9 and a half feet high, so right now, William was crouched over a little and it made him look even bigger than he already was.

The normal William dwarfed me and quite a lot of people with his height of 6'6" but right now...I truly felt small. It was like being in front of a giant.

His body rippled with muscles that looked packed to the brim with explosive power. The light twitches of his muscles sounded like heavy bowstrings being drawn and let go in my ears. While usually I felt like I was strong and invincible, I found that I felt weak in front of William right now. Like he could break me like a twig.

And from those two green eyes shining at me, I could tell that he was barely above trying it in his current state.

It scared me...yet I still didn't leave or move.

William saw this and tilted his head before he lumbered toward me. Each step caused the ground around us to shake but there was next to no noise from his feet, and I knew that if he didn't want to, William would be walking completely silently and without shaking the ground. He was just unused to his current weight right now.

When he got in front of me, he crouched down and even then he was a head above me in height.

He placed his nose up against the glass, the glass going misty as he began to breath against it. He seemed to get my scent because his eyes closed and he began to sniff quite rapidly befoe chuffing* and opening his eyes with a sort of...friendliness in them.

(*A/N - Chuffing is what Tigers do when they're happy. Big cats can't purr because they gave up that ability so they could roar instead, meaning Tigers can't purr either. So they chuff instead. It's like rapidly released air that reacts with the vocal cords to produce a unique sound. Just search 'Tigers chuffing' if you wanna know what it sounds like.)

I tried to read his emotions but all I could feel was basic things like 'Hungry' or 'Thirsty'. His brain wasn't thinking about much right now because it was a full-moon.

William then placed his clawed hand on the glass, looking between me and the hand before chuffing again.

I don't know why but I felt like I knew what he wanted, so I picked my hand up and placed it against the glass, right across from William's now furred and clawed hand. Through the glass I could feel the immense heat but it didn't matter when I saw the happiness in William's eyes. It wasn't an intelligent happiness - more like an instinctive happiness. He chuffed some more and I felt oddly confused:

Aren't Children of the Moon supposed to be mad and frenzied when they turn? So why isn't William like that?

It was at that point that I released any information that was about the Children of the Moon that I knew, well, it didn't apply to William. No other Children of the Moon were Tigers. For all we know, he could be completely peaceful when turned--

This notion was proven wrong when I heard Emmett speak up from behind me, "Hey, Edy, Carlisle sent us down to help--" he didn't get a chance to complete his sentence as a loud growl pervaded the room.

It shook the glass. It shook the air. It shook the ground. It shook our very bodies.

I'd turned around to look toward Jasper and Emmett, to tell them to come look at William but now I found myself frozen, looking at them who were also stuck still.

Jasper looked...even more on edge than he usually was. His tawny eyes were locked onto William who was the source of the growl. Emmett looked lost yet also tense, his eyes focused on William as well.

A slow, ear grating sound came from where my hand was as William's claws dragged themselves down the glass before his hand balled up into a fist, seemingly not effected by the claws at the ends of his fingers. I turned around just in time to see William's mouth turn to that of a snarl, baring his long, thick fangs to the world as he swung at the glass.

A colossal bang went off as the specially made bulletproof glass strained to spread the force causing minute cracks to run for a few centimeters from where William's behemoth-sized fist collided with the glass.

Seeing this might not have impressed anyone else - the glass looked like normal glass.

But I and my two adoptive brother knew exactly how hard that glass was. It was near impossible to cause that much damage with a single punch. Well, for us, at least. The same seemed to not apply to William before he drew back his fist before slamming it back with the same blinding speed. His glowing green eyes were no longer looking at me but instead right at Emmett and Jasper. In the end, he continued to punch the glass, making the cracks bigger and bigger with each hit.

He roared and he roared, spit and leftover blood from earlier hitting the glass slider as Emmett and Jasper's very presence began to send William into some sort of berserk state.

Every instinct in my body told me I was outmatched by this wrathful version of William. That I should escape while I could.

But I admonished those instincts and just turned to Emmett and Jasper.

"Leave. He's reacting to your presence. He was perfectly fine before you came down here. Stay upstairs - I'll stay down here and look after him," I said, my voice calmer than I thought it should be given the situation.

Emmett went to reply, his face contorting in confusion and worry but Jasper put a hand on his chest, stopping him. He stared at me and I just calmly met his stare until he just nodded and turned around, dragging Emmett with him.

As I suspected, William's rage slowly calmed down as they left and he stopped punching the glass.

He just stood there for a few more seconds before pacing around the small room he was in. He picked up bottles and sniffed at them before dropping them on the ground.

He seemed to be looking for something. I soon found out when he began sniffing at the leftover flesh from his transformation. After sniffing it a little, he began to devour it, munching down the skin and meat and blood...it made me slightly queasy knowing he was eating himself or rather eating pieces of meat that he'd ripped off himself earlier.

And I'm a Vampire - me being queasy over gore should tell you how bad it is.

But it also let me realize what was happening and what William was feeling.

He was hungry. I rushed upstairs, my absence being met with a whine from William but I appeared in front of Esme who was next to Carlisle who was looking through a microscope at what I assumed was William's blood or tissue sample.

They both looked at me and I had begun to explain that we needed to feed William before he took it upon himself to find food for himself.

And that might just be the worst massacre Forks has ever experienced.
