3 For Our Descendants

The 2 men carried on with their conversation, but the content was nowhere as interesting as it was moments ago so Orion stopped listening as he tried to wrap his head around everything that was said moments ago.

[So that man is the elder brother of Gol D. Roger the soon to be king of the pirates. But from the sounds of it he doesn't believe Roger should be the Pirate King as it'll throw the world into anarchy. He seems to think my father is the only one qualified to become the king of the pirates. It also seems like dad doesn't disagree with him.

The most surprising thing is that he said that our ancestors cut the strings of destiny that were guiding them…

Wait, wouldn't that make them destineless?

The D. in our names… It's for Destineless?!]

As Orion came to that realisation he was once more thrown into a state of shock.

[Did I just figure out the age-old mystery of the Will of D? Or at least part of it?]

Just as he was coming to terms with his most recent discovery, his ears perked up when he heard what his father and uncle were discussing.

"Marcus, when do you plan on giving Orion the Wind Devil Fruit?"

"To be honest I want to give it to him immediately, the earlier he has it the earlier he'll get use to it."

"Are you sure, you want to give it to him? If you do he'll never be able to learn to swim."

"I'm sure! Mira and I spoke about it a few days ago and figured it was for the best. You know how rare a Logia Fruit and this one is perfect for as when he's able to master his abilities, even being able to fly won't be impossible."

As he said that he reached down to the table behind him and picked up a silver looking fruit. He then picked up an empty baby bottle and crushed the fruit into it creating a thick and creamy fruit smoothie.

He brought the bottle to his son's lips as if he were imitating a bird flying in the sky as he said in a baby voice.

"Is it a cloud, is it a bird, no it's your bottle. Drink up for daddy!"

Hearing this Orion wanted to curse him for talking to him as if he was a baby, until he remembered he really was a baby.

Remembering that Orion kept silent and opened his mouth and started drinking.

[Eurghh this is horrid! No wonder everyone in one piece comes close to puking after eating them!]

Despite the bad taste, Orion kept drinking as he desperately wanted this devil fruit.

As he finished he felt himself slipping through his Mom's arms. Just as he was about to fall off the bed he felt the power of wind coursing through his body.

He immediately took a deep breath and blew out. A powerful gust of wind came out his mouth, slowing his fall.

As he did that he felt an arm hold on to his body. As he was picked up he saw his dad holding on to him looking at him as if he were a monster.

"Did he…"

"Haha Marcus, your son has incredible instincts!"

"Haha good son, you take after your old man!"

Orion saw Marcus leaning his face in as if he wanted to rub it against his. As he got close Orion grabbed onto his beard and started pulling with all his strength.

"Oww oww, not the beard, not the beard!"

"Hahaha, I guess you were right, he really does take after his old man! Just as rebellious!"

"Who's old? You're old! Your mom's old!"

"And you're young?!"

"Younger than you!"

"Only by a few years."

"Younger is younger old man!"

"Snort! Bastard."

"Younger bastard you mean."

Seeing the two men bickering brought a smile to Orion's face.

[They really are close aren't they!]

Eventually the two men stopped with their bickering.

"What age do you intend to have him start his training?"

"When he turns 5."

"But didn't you want you to set out to sea in 5 years? Who's going to train him?"

"That little brat should've accomplished the task I set for him in 5 years. I'll have him train Orion for a while."

"That's a good idea, your disciple is more than qualified for the job, I'll have my son train with them as well."

"That's a good idea."

[His disciple? I wonder if his disciple is someone I already know.]

"What about your boy, you said you just started training him."

"Well yeah I just gave him the mythical zoan type devil fruit we found. He needs to learn how to completely control it. I haven't started training him properly yet as he's only 3, I'll wait till he's 5 before he starts his training officially."

"Don't be too strict with him though, he's still just a child."

"Marcus, our families have been close for generations but if anyone is to sit on that throne it has to be from your family. My ancestors knew that, which is why our family made an oath to protect yours. If we don't manage to achieve our goal, then it'll be up to our children to accomplish what we couldn't"

Marcus didn't agree with the oath as he believes that everyone should be able to choose their own path.

"I know you were disappointed in Roger for leaving all those years ago but I'm happy he did. I agree that the one to break the cycle should be from my family, but do you remember why our ancestors left all those years ago?

Because they all agreed we didn't want to be controlled by a higher power, because we all believed that we should be free to make our own choices in life without being guided by the invisible strings of destiny.

Although we're being oppressed by the heavens, we are well and truly free of the shackles of destiny, but you have effectively shackled yourself once more with the oath of your family.

Watching Roger break free of those shackles and pursue true freedom made me proud.

I know you're happy with your decision, but I don't wish to see our descendants grow apart because yours resent mine."

"…"

Walter didn't know how to reply as he knew Marcus wasn't exactly wrong.

Seeing his face Marcus put his hand on his shoulder and said.

"Let's make sure that in 5 years when we set sail we put an end to this once and for all, not just for us, but for our descendants too!"

Marcus left with his son, leaving Walter to his thoughts.
