Chapter 46 Fight with Adam

In an area littered with the remains of destroyed machine life forms, eight YoRHa androids walked, inspecting their surroundings. The intense battle had concluded not long ago, culminating in the destruction of the Machine Network building.

Fortunately, there were no remaining machine life forms threatening them, as multiple battles were ongoing in various places. After the battle, their task was to confirm the elimination of all machine life forms in the area. However, one of the androids sat atop a small mountain of destroyed machine life forms.

This particular android gazed at a transparent light grey panel projection emanating from the floating pod unit beside her. The projection featured two beautiful girls engaged in a passionate kiss—one with white hair and the other with blonde hair. These two were Lucia and White. The video was uploaded once again for YoRHa androids to watch, bearing the title 'Greeting method for Lucia,' edited by Rika.

Despite watching the video, White showed no signs of embarrassment or shyness. Instead, she felt honored and happy about the video. After all, Lucia was not only her creator but also her mother and wife.

The android girl watching the video touched her lips with her fingers, lost in a moment of reflection.

'I see… So, that's how we should greet Mother now…' the girl thought.

"8B-san, what are you watching?" A male-framed android asked, approaching her with a smile.

"It's a greeting video," 8B replied.

"Mmm… Mmm… Is that really how humans greet? Very interesting… But from my findings, it wasn't like that though?" the male android, 9S, remarked.

"It was uploaded by Lady Rika, 9S. She said it's to strengthen bonds with family members. She mentioned that we are one big family," 8B explained with an expressionless face characteristic of most Type B androids, who were still getting used to their emotions.

"Lady Rika? Then it might be true," 9S nodded in understanding.

"I can't wait to greet Mother," 9S exclaimed with a happy smile.

"No, you can't," 8B replied, turning her attention back to the video, studying the technique.

"…" The background around 9S darkened, and lightning struck him.

"H-how is that possible! I even worked overtime last night!" 9S shouted, holding his head in disbelief.

"Wait. So, only a few can greet like that?" 9S asked again.

"No, it seems only female frames are allowed to do that. Male frames are forbidden from doing so," 8B answered.

The background around 9S darkened once more, and a big arrow with the words 'Male frames are forbidden from doing that' stabbed through 9S's heart, causing him to vomit blood.

"Arg. That's not fair!"

"If you want to do that, you have to change back to a female frame," 8B said.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with the male frame, though. I think this body is pretty good too," 9S replied.

"That is because our creator doesn't like to do that with a male," 8B explained.

"Oh… I see… then I have to change back to a female frame," 9S said, nodding.

"Yes."

"What are you guys talking about?" 22B walked over to 8B and 9S with her teammate.

"It is…" 8B explained what they had discussed earlier.

"Oh… So, the greeting has changed like that?" 22B asked, and 8B nodded.

They began discussing kissing as a greeting.

'Is that how greetings work, though? I think I have seen that from somewhere… hmm… well, whatever. I have to change back to a female frame,' 9S thought while the rest were talking and looking at the video.

After a full day passed, Lucia awoke from her slumber and glanced to her side, where she found Esdeath cuddling her with a contented smile. 

They lay inside the tent, a convenient purchase from the system. Despite being labeled as a tent, it resembled more of a mini-house with its bed, a small sitting area for ten people, a bathroom, and a compact kitchen. The tent had the added benefit of transforming back into a small cube after use. Luckily, the black snake's territory ensured a peaceful night without any disturbances from mutant animals.

Lucia reminisced about what had transpired yesterday. Their date had taken an unexpected turn, leaving Lucia at a loss for words. After all, she didn't expect that they would engage in intimate activities in the forest.

She played with Esdeath's blue hair. Esdeath's eyes fluttered open, and she smiled upon seeing Lucia.

"Good morning," Esdeath greeted.

"Morning, my love," Lucia replied.

Lucia and Esdeath shared a passionate kiss as part of their morning routine. Afterward, they proceeded to freshen up in the bathroom and get dressed. 

"Let's go. We ended up staying here the whole day," Lucia said.

"But it's enjoyable too, isn't it?" Esdeath asked.

"Yeah…" Lucia replied, and they walked deeper into the forest together.

After an hour, they reached the center of the forest and saw ruined buildings. Not only that, there were many small machine life forms hugging each other, built like pillars.

Yes, they were remarkably similar to the machine nest where Adam and Eve were produced from a heart-like machine ball. It was almost identical to the place Lucia had seen in an anime.

'This… why is the machine nest here?' Lucia thought.

Lucia and Esdeath checked the surroundings and recorded them on video. After that, Lucia and Esdeath headed back to Babylon using teleportation.

Time passed swiftly, and it's been almost a week. In a place with a milky-grey city where even the sky appears white, two black-haired girls in red dresses seethed with anger as their machine network servers faced destruction. Yes, they are the Red Girls, the true villains of this Nier: Automata world.

Unable to infiltrate the YoRHa network, they were confined to the Machine network. Strangely enough, they couldn't hack the androids from YoRHa like they did in the past, as some kind of energy prevented them from injecting the Logic virus that had once terrified androids.

The worst part is that they couldn't even protect the machine servers now, with androids attacking one base after another continually. Their plans had been severely disrupted, and the situation was increasingly worrying. Without the machine network buildings, their existence would be completely extinguished.

Even though they could revive with stored data on the machine network, if there were no more machine servers, they were as good as dead. More importantly, they were not in a physical form now, as they existed in data form. They aimed to create the perfect body for themselves and become gods, which is why they conducted experiments for many years.

Once they finished, their plan was to descend into the perfect body and achieve godhood. Becoming a god is not an easy feat, and their creators—aliens and the creators of androids, humans—were considered gods to them. however, they couldn't escape death either. Even though the aliens ultimately perished by their own hands, the Red Girls didn't want to meet the same fate. This belief led to an endless machine war for that purpose.

"Damn humans and androids!" One of the Red Girls slammed her hand onto the milky-grey clay-like table as she shouted. Since the strange events occurred and one of the creators of androids, a human, returned through some kind of time travel or teleportation, they had encountered countless difficulties.

Now, they couldn't even spy on YoRHa movements or use Logic virus on androids. Lucia even destroyed the factory that was creating Goliath Engels, and some androids managed to destroy the Goliath-type Sea Machine life forms.

"We got the data uploaded by Adam. We can create more now."

"The time wasn't enough…"

To create humanoid machine life forms, they needed to sacrifice machine nests, and the time required to create them was significant.

"We have no choice; we have to send Adam and Eve into battle."

The two girls said as they looked at the screen, which changed scenes as it stopped at two humanoid machine life forms, also known now as Adam and Eve. Then they directly and forcefully controlled their minds to fight against androids.

"That damn White and humans!" The Red girls had creepy, angry faces as they cursed White.

Adam was sitting in a chair, bare-chested, wearing only black pants. Suddenly, his thoughts were being influenced by something. It had been a while since he had felt like this. The first time was when he was born, feeling the urgency to fight machine life forms right away.

But that feeling had disappeared not long after, as he somehow resisted and arrived at his current state. Now, he was experiencing it again, and this time, it was more aggressive than the first. He felt an overwhelming urge to fight against androids, no matter what.

Gritting his teeth, he tried to resist the feeling and focus on the book, as he didn't like being controlled. However, no matter how hard he resisted, he couldn't ignore the control and ended up following his instincts. Of course, the Red Girls didn't want to use them like this, as they wanted the machine life forms to improve and become stronger. But currently, that was impossible since YoRHa androids were relentlessly attacking Machine network buildings, and only two were left now.

Now, it's a do-or-die situation, a dire state. They never expected that the androids would become so much stronger, and White had fully demonstrated her control over the entire android group. In just a few days, White had planned and executed operations efficiently, with androids destroying all the machine network buildings as if they knew exactly where they were located.

Unless the machine life forms could defend the last two Machine network buildings, they were done for. Adam and Eve started to fly using maso energies, heading toward the Machine network building currently engulfed in battle. Unlike normal machine life forms, Adam and Eve could use flight with maso energies. They were akin to mages but not to the extent of casting magic spells. They could only fly and strengthen themselves and they could also control machine life forms.

As they rushed toward the battlefield, they saw androids rampaging near the machine network building. Normally, androids couldn't fight Goliath Engels, but now there were two Goliath Engels that had already been destroyed, and many machine life form body parts were scattered all over the place.

In addition to the YoRHa androids, there were also Resistance androids using tanks or explosive guns, engaging in combat with the machine life forms.

"Destroy them all! The war is almost finished!"

"There is no place for these parasite-like machine life forms on Earth!"

The androids roared with all their might as they approached the end of this endless war.

Countless bullets and missiles were flying around the battlefield, and explosions were everywhere. Despite their efforts to destroy the Machine network building, the structure proved to be extremely sturdy, resisting most attacks. YoRHa androids had already infiltrated the building, aiming to dismantle the network from within.

Suddenly, two shadows flew over the battlefield and crashed at the center. Dust billowed, obscuring the view. When the dust settled, two human-like figures emerged from the chaos, both males clad only in pants. 

"A-Androids?" a random Resistance android asked the one beside her.

"No," a female voice responded.

Tap… Tap… Tap… Tap…

A YoRHa android walked out from among the Resistance androids and stopped in front of the Resistance group. She had short silver-white hair, wore a blindfold, and donned casual YoRHa clothing. Her name was 2B, assigned to destroy the machine network building in the area.

{Report. Unusual Machine life form signal detected.}

{Currently, 50 meters away.}

"I can see that even without you saying it…" 2B remarked with an expressionless face.

"Pod, release Reaper."

{Understood. Weapon codenamed 'Reaper' released.}

White and black colored small cubes appeared and formed into a long white katana—a two-handed sword with minimal weight. It had a long handle, and the blade, although small as a dagger, connected seamlessly to the longer katana blade.

After it fully materialized and 2B held it, the entire edge of the katana was surrounded by black flame-like particles, emitting a chilling vibe. The dagger-sized sword connecting to the long katana glowed with a pale white color, while a circular pale-yellow systematic sword guard appeared at the designated place.

Its original name was 'Virtuous Treaty,' but Saya had renamed it 'Reaper' after upgrading it with corrupt energies.

2B skillfully spun the long katana in front of her, almost as if she were showing off its beauty. As the katana moved, it left behind small dark-colored particles that slowly dissipated into the air.

"Ni-san, let me kill them for you," Eve said as he was about to fight with 2B, but Adam stopped him.

"I will handle them; you go and kill the rest inside the building," Adam said, and Eve rushed back to the building, even though he still didn't want to leave his brother.

*Boom!*

Suddenly, an explosion appeared not far from them. Of course, the battle was still continuing elsewhere. Only here had stopped for a while as a new enemy appeared.

"The rest of you also go and fight; I will handle him," 2B said calmly.

"Yes, ma'am."

"Understood."

Resistance androids left the new enemy with their leader of this operation and continued their fight. Since they knew 2B is super strong, more than normal YoRHa android members.

Adam and 2B stood, staring at each other, waiting and checking what their opponent would do. Suddenly, the two of them disappeared from their spots and reappeared, starting to fight.

2B slashed diagonally, and Adam dodged it, countering with a punch. As the punch neared 2B's face, she dodged the fist by slightly moving her head and then quickly drew the sword upward diagonally.

At this moment, Adam realized he couldn't dodge fast enough and used his arm to block. However, the sword's sharpness proved too much, cutting through his arm like butter.

"!!"

Gritting his teeth, Adam stepped away as quickly as possible, but his arm was already severed. Even though androids had good reflexes, he hadn't expected 2B's movement speed to be that fast. Adam had used maso energies to enhance his attack just now, but he still couldn't match 2B's speed.

Adam had stumbled upon a fantasy-type book while reading, inspiring him to research ways to strengthen himself. Information about using maso energies was found within their machine network, explaining why Goliath-type machine life forms could shoot laser beams.

Adam considered the possibility of enhancing himself rather than resorting to laser beams. He was aware that a confrontation with androids was inevitable, especially since the machine network had information on how YoRHa androids had strengthened themselves using some form of energy.

This research became his focus during these days. The Red Girls were content with Adam's efforts, as the data he uploaded to the machine network could be integrated into newly created humanoid machine life forms, potentially giving them an advantage against current YoRHa androids.

Despite Adam having already uploaded the research data to the network, creating humanoid machine life forms from scratch would take time. With the threat of the androids destroying their network before completion, the Red Girls compelled Adam to assist in the ongoing battle.

2B relentlessly attacked Adam, preventing him from regenerating his lost arm. While Adam attempted to counter with clawed fingers, 2B's superior agility allowed her to inflict numerous wounds on him. The continual barrage of energy bullets from the pod unit further added to Adam's disadvantage in the fight. 

"Pod, limiter release."

{Understood. Limiter release on 'Reaper' unit.}

2B unleashed the full power of her weapon, 'Reaper,' by releasing the limiter on the pod unit. The sword's edge, emitting corrupt energies, intensified, and black energy gathered massively. 

"!!"

Swiftly moving, 2B swung the sword, cutting upward from the side of Adam. Although Adam managed to evade the physical blade, the unleashed energy surged through him like a laser beam. A pitch-black pillar of energy shot into the sky, engulfing Adam's entire body. After a few seconds, the black pillar dissipated, leaving behind only dust—the remnants of Adam's existence.
