Promise

"You will think twice before running from me," Alastair remarked with a smirk and observed how the girl's green eyes widened in shock. Her lips parted as though she wanted to argue with him but closed them, not knowing what to say. Samantha clasped her skirt tight, her fingers turning clammy in anxiety.

Although Samantha did have plans of running away from the King, they were only in the moment. She had never thought of running away from him forever, or from the palace. She had no place to go, and why would she leave the King when he had all the authority and power to get her back? She gaped at the man, unable to understand why he had taken such a decision.

Alastair sensed the dilemma in the girl, and he smiled in assurance. "I know you won't run away from me, darling. But there might come a day when you would want to do so for reasons unknown, and I do not want to take the risk."
