"Let's go." Daniel gave mankey a signal to start is preestablished plan

"Defence curl." Brock went for his classic rollout setup stratergy

Geodude curled itself up. Its defence raised. Mankey simply charged at geodude and smashed it with his fighting energy coated fist. The geodude was hit for supereffective damage and its defence was brought back down to neutral.

Rock smash was a move that had a 50% chance to drop the enemies defence. Daniel had adsked mankey to open with this move as it had a good chance to nullify the defence curl and damage geoude.

"Rollout." Brock didn't falter and carried his combo.

Geodude curled up again, this time surrounded by rock energy.

"Rock smash." Daniel did not intend to let geodude get its rollout stacks. Since geodude did successfully use defence curl before rollout, the power of rollout doubled. The rolling geodude collided with mankey"s fighting energy coated fist resulting in both of them staggering back. Geodudes rollout had been stopped.

"Rock smash again."

"Rollout"

Both Daniel and brock carried out their attacks. The collision this time had a clear result. The unboosted rollout was too weak to hold a candle against mankey's rocksmash. The damage geodude took his time was enough to knock it out.

Mankey had won the round with 3 rocksmashes and no damage taken.

Brock sent out onyx next.

Pokemon: Onyx

Ability: Sturdy

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Rock 30%, Ground 9%, Normal 20%

It was somewhat normal for onyx to not have many ground moves. It was still decently strong, but not stronger than his mankey.

"Rock smash"

Daniel smiled as he already knew how defence focused rock types generally fight thanks to Brassius.

Mankey completely ignored the huge rocks formed by onyx and attacked it. He did not get a defence drop this time.

The rocks conjured by onyx smashed into mankey dealing resisted damage. This was the first time mankey had taken damage in this battle. Its speed was lowered by one stage. Daniel was actually looking forward to this.

Suddenly mankey's attack rose by two stages.

Ability- Defiant: Whenever the pokemon's stat is dropped by an opposing pokemon, raises attack stat by two stages.

"Low kick."

It wasn't difficult for the slowed down mankey to land the kick on the giant onyx.

Since sturdy was broken by the previous rock smash, the attack was more than enough to knock the heavy onyx out.

Mankey had managed to win the fight in two moves this time.

He had managed to solo the gym.

"Congrats." Brock approached Daniel with a gym badge which Daniel happily accepted.

He went back to his class while the next student was called. Mankey's win did not surprise them as they didn't know Brock's difficulty yet. Daniel wanted to see how many of his classmates manage to win the first gym. He predicted there would be a lot as most of them had a water or grass type which were very common in Kanto. Still he was looking forward to see if any of his classmates were exceptional and where his strength lied among them.

Among their class, there was one student who they knew had an advanced ranked pokemon. That student was Wendell Ferdy. Although his starter was just an oddish, it was known that the pokemon had grown into a powerful advance ranked gloom which was seen thrashing some pokemon that belonged to some students looking for trouble.

Their first day ended with only Daniel leaving with a badge, meaning three students had lost to Brock. On the second day they knew another badge would be given out as that was the day Wendell would have his battle. Daniel couldn't wait to see the strength of the student that was considered to be the best among their class.
