The Bright Lord (3)

'Nurn's port'

The port of the city of Nurn lies some kilometers below the plain on which the city is settled.

Connected to the Sea of Nurn, this port is large and has quadrupled in size since Talion took command of the fortress.

The port is needed to meet the needs of the inhabitants of the newly formed land of light, this is why it has increased in size.

This port is made mostly of wood and some stone structures, and is large enough to ensure a sustainable supply of maritime resources.

Having many docks is necessary for the fishermen, this way, they can bring the fish and other resources on land easily.

Because of its new size, many men and orcs have come to settle there, forming more than a port, a real small city with its own environment, living from fishing.

This new city is governed by Dura, the orc in charge of managing the food in the region.

Thanks to his hard work, the small city prospers and life is good.

However, while Nurn is under attack and Talion is facing the Nazgûls alone, the peace of the city is threatened by the arrival of several khand ships.

The latter are now visible on the horizon, and with the wind blowing in their direction, they are not far from landing.

In response to this sudden invasion, Haleth and his men who have been dispatched by Talion are organizing the defense.

Thus we see Haleth and Dura on top of a tower overlooking the city.

Dura then takes a deep breath and turns to Haleth and asks

"They will be here soon, are your men in place?"

Looking at Dura for a brief moment, then turning his gaze towards the sea he says "Everything is ready on my side, my men are posted at strategic points and we will stop them without too much trouble, is the evacuation of the city completed?"

Dura hearing Haleth feels relieved and says " I am going to ask one moment ".

Following these words he communicates through his earpiece with one of the men under his command.

Only a few minutes later he turns to Haleth and tells him the news " The inhabitants are evacuated and are leaving in the direction of Nurn, as for the food stocks we are in the process of finalizing their transport, everything will be ready for the battle ".

Hearing these words, Haleth then jumps down from the tower, leaving Dura behind and heads towards his men, ready to command them.

 ---

In Nurn, as the citizens of the port arrive, Talion arrives at the city.

Seeing the large number of citizens, he can only be worried about the security of the city, even though he sees soldiers supervising the transport.

Once in the city, he walks towards the group of orcs he captured.

He then sees Calil ordering a group of soldiers, present at the city gate.

Approaching the latter, he then says " Calil, I pushed back the Nazguls and we will be able to rest for a while, did you restore the order in the city ?"

"We have checked the different access points and doubled the number of guards, the problem is the arrival of the inhabitants of the port, I have mobilized all the forces available to guarantee security, we are however vulnerable to an attack" answers Calil while rubbing his beard.

"You did well, another subject, where are those filthy orcs who invaded us? Did you put them in jail?" asks Talion, determined to get to the bottom of this story.

Hearing Talion, Calil clenches his fist and releases it, irritated by this sudden invasion of unknown origins, then answers "I had them thrown in jail, I haven't started the torture yet, I wanted to get your approval first".

"Once again, your clairvoyance amazes me, I have the means to make them talk, I'm going there right now, warn me at the slightest problem" says Talion before throwing an earpiece to Calil and disappearing in the direction of the prison of the city.

-

Once he arrives at the prison, he walks around the place before finding the cell where the orcs are held prisoners.

Entering the cell, he is immediately insulted by the orcs

"Filthy rangers, I'm going to kill you and eat you whole !" shouts the first one

"I'll tear you apart and taste your blood!" a second one rages

"My lord will tear you to pieces, he will kill your beloved in front of you ahahah" says a third while laughing madly.

"Enough!" says Talion firmly, using his magic and aura to silence these foul creatures.

The effect is immediate, and despite their strong temperament the orcs become silent and can't help but tremble with fear.

Approaching one of them, Talion puts his hand on it and focuses his power to control its thoughts.

And it is here, at this very moment, that he discovers part of the evil one's purpose, Sauron is far more clever than he expected, and his cunning is beyond estimation.

There, at the center of the orc's mind, Talion sees a seal, a kind of mark that prevents him from accessing the orc's deep memory, including the impossibility of changing the orc's mind, hence domination would be really hard to perform.

Only the surface memories of the orc are accessible, and in them is part of the plan for the invasion.

Obtaining this precious information, Talion then explodes the orc's head with a burst of magic, before extracting the memories of the other orcs.

It is then that a general plan begins to take shape.

From what he could gather, this invasion, although short, was only part of a larger plan that he could not decipher.

The orcs came through ancient underground tunnels built long ago, these tunnels were built when the great cities of Mordor were created, they are a sort of protective measure.

Realizing this, Talion reacts immediately and consults the vision stone, the palantiri.

Pulling out the stone, he concentrates and carefully observes Mordor.

There, while previously the forces of Mordor were marching towards Nurn and the other cities, they turned around and returned to the plateau of gorgoroth.

"They are turning back! Why on earth is Sauron withdrawing his troops?" wondered Talion.

After a few minutes of thought, an idea comes to his mind and in an attempt to affirm it he looks further north.

"If what I think is correct, Sauron wants to stay in his positions so as not to weaken against me and strengthen himself, he fears the attack of an enemy, or he wishes to wait until he take back his ring."

Then, pointing the palantiri above the lothlorien, he sees a vast army of elf, facing a large army of orc that came down from the mountains.

The orc army is completely annihilated by the elf army, better geared and skilled warrior, elfes are cheat like warrior, this is not a surprise that this army was completly destroyed. What is surprising is the size of this army, there is at least 20000 elfes, this is a major force.

"Could it be that he fears an elven attack? It's tiring to fight against such a cunning and tactical enemy..." Talion laments, tired of his enemy's deviousness.

"Well, it seems that there was an army left on the Khand side, let's see if they are close"

Looking to the east of Mordor, he then sees that the Khand's army is also turning back and returning to their lands.

Still not understanding the situation, Talion decides to leave it at that, physically and mentally exhausted by this hard day.

He then goes to the fortress of the city, it's while entering the latter that he sees Idril.

Seeing him, and feeling his tiredness Idril says to him "Talion, my love, you clearly need to rest, come with me as your lover, I will take care of you".

"Listen Idril, I still have a lot of work to do, you know very well that I love you, but this is not the right time" Talion answers with a tired voice.

"No! I'm worried about you, you have to listen to me and I'm telling you to get some rest, you're going to come spend the night with me, did I make myself clear?" she asks in an authoritative tone with her arms crossed.

Recognizing that Idril is right, Talion decides to accept with a sigh "*sigh* fine I'll come spend the night with you".

Idril happily leads him to their rooms so that they can both get a good night's sleep.
