Chapter 8

I was in the living room watching an American series when Similoluwa's call entered. We've not talked since after the wedding but seeing her call made me happy because we did not bid ourselves farewell on a good note.

"I can't change my words. I do not think Paul is the right guy for you", I disagreed with Similoluwa's claims that Paul cared about her.

"Paul is a good guy. He just needs time to set his priorities right."

"And you think you are one of his priorities. Isn't it?"

"What do you mean by do I think I am one of his priorities?"

"Similoluwa please don't quote me. What I am trying to say is that I don't think this guy cares about you. You deserve the best."

"So you think that I am so insignificant that I cannot be one of his priorities?"

"Similoluwa please stop it. You are significant! You are significant to me"

"Look around you, Patricia. Everything is working out for you perfectly and you should be grateful about that. Not rubbing it in people's faces."

"Similoluwa, I am not rubbing anything to your face. Where is this coming from?"

"You know that everyone cannot be as lucky as you and believe me life goes on."

"Seriously! Wait!", I stuttered. "Are you not happy that I found someone or what?"

"Don't try to twist anything, Patricia. I know you too well for being corky, that is what you always do."

"So you are one of the haters all along. I thought we got each other's backs. I thought we were something but if someone had told me that my so-called best friend would do this to me, I will disagree."

"Patricia this is not about me. It is about you always trying to make everybody look like a fool because all the wisdom lies within you and you alone."

"Similoluwa, that is mean. I have never done that to you before."

"How would you have known? No, tell me how? When you have been in your fantasies and it becomes so hard for you to see other people's pain."

"Just cut it Similoluwa. Cut it there. I am not the cause of your inability to get a man, I meant a good man. So don't try to place your anger on me. I am married and I am happy about it, if you are not happy for me, that is your damn problem, not mine. Keep your bad energy far away from me because it is crystal clear now that I am all alone."

"And there we go again. "My inability" as if I made everything the way it is".

"You know what Similoluwa, get out of my house and get the hell out of my life. "

"Fine, we are done."

I could see the pain right through Similoluwa's eyes when she walked out of the door that day. It was a hard blow to my face and to be sincere I missed her. She understood me more than anybody else but what transpired that day set us apart for months. Seeing her call was a dream come true and I pray we find to resolve our differences.

"Hello!", Similoluwa exclaimed. "Thank you for picking up my call. Patricia believe me I am sorry."

"I am sorry too Similoluwa. I am sorry I was lording it over you. I am sorry I made you invisible. I am sorry."

"Patricia, please don't. I said those words out of anger and trust me you are one of the sweetest things that has ever happened to me. We both have our differences and you were just being you. I am sorry I made a big deal out of it and make you feel bad."

"It's fine Similoluwa. It's absolutely fine. I have forgiven you since."

"Thank you, my love. You are the best." She laughed over the phone and I could feel happiness in her voice again.

"I missed you so much Similoluwa." I wanted to cry.

"I missed you too Patricia. I regretted everything that happened that day."

"I am glad you called. So what is new? How are you doing?"

"I am so happy baby girl. Guess what?"

"What? You have come again"

"Paul proposed last week and he said he wants the wedding to be as fast as possible. Similoluwa you are talking to a bride in the making." She said excitedly.

God knows I wasn't happy at the news Similoluwa gave me. I was happy at the fact that she was getting married but not happy with the man she was getting married to.

"Congratulations Bae, but I just hope you are not making s terrible mistake."

"Trust me, it's a good thing, Patricia. I can deal with his excesses. I will be fine."

"I hate to prolong this matter because it almost set us apart the last time, I have said my mind but since that is what you want, I have no choice but to support you. Congratulations."

"Thank you, Patricia. So you are my maid of honor?"

"Not when I am five months gone."

"No, don't tell me I will soon be a godmother?" She asked excitedly.

"You will soon be one baby girl. In four months you will be mum."

"Yesses, I will become a mummy, I will become a mummy." She turned it into a song. "This is good news and I can't wait to see that baby girl expanding your tummy."

"Who told you it is a girl? What if it's a boy?" I asked jokingly.

"All is good, whether girl or boy but seriously I am not ready to shout, I want a girl with the long hair and all the sereren."

"Na you sabi."
