CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Taylor Night
My training sessions in the coming week are brutal and I can barely walk as I leave the island. My bruises are so bad that they are barely healed by the next morning before it all begins again.
But I can't utter a word.
Raeina is in one of her moods and after the incident in the dining hall, I take it all in and try to keep up.
However, by the end of the day, I curl up in a ball and whimper in pain till sleep wraps me in its warm embrace.
It's the fourth day and I've just arrived in my cell and am changing into my pajamas when I hear the vault door opening. Thinking it's my dinner, I call out, hoarsely, from behind the privacy barrier, "Just leave it there."
When no one answers, I step out from the side, only to see someone I least expected.
"Isabel," I stare at her, shocked. I don't even feel angry, just startled by her presence.
Her face is pale as she stares at me, "What happened to you?"
