Chapter 11

Somewhere in the afternoon, the semi-cloudy skies were tinged in bright orange hue, signifying the sun's setting descent and the approaching of the evening.

The outer edges of the plantation had wide tracks that can be traversed by mobile vehicles or walking mechas. These places had an open view of the outside of the plantation, only separated by a tall iron fence. It was tall for a human, but not for a training or transporting mecha as it only  reached up to their waist. These robots were severely smaller that official FRANXX, sizing to only about 4-5 meters high.

One lone training robot could be seen running on this track, before stopping and opening the hatch, revealing a teen with shaggy black hair. It was Hiro, piloting a training robot. He stared in the far distance, outside of the plantation. There, he could see the tall figures of four FRANXX's and their distinctive appearances made it clear that his friends was piloting them.

They were currently having their first drill exercise since the start-up trial. Meaning to say that, they will only practice moving their robots around for now. 

Hiro stared at the four distant FRANXX with a longing gaze, before looking back at the steering wheel in front of him.

'I did manage to pilot back then.' His face growing thoughtful. 'If I could just ride with Zero Two in Strelizia again. I....'

It isn't really difficult to understand from the perspective of the boy. He showed a great talent of becoming a pilot when he was younger. But all of it disappeared all of the sudden. He wanted to prove himself to be of use, but his efforts remain unrewarded.

He knew that it was only because of the potential he previously showed, that he was given the option to stay in Mistilteinn (Plantation 13). Therefore, he wanted to prove to them, and himself, that he had the right to stay here along with his friends.

Prove that he was not a waste.

Woosh!

Wind blew up his air as a speeding train passed by beside him. Naturally, aside from the transport vehicles and robots, trains on the outer-side of the plantation would be used as well since the distance between stations could measure to one city to another. 

Hiro closed the hatch of the training yellow mecha and began to move once again, revealing the back of the mecha's large head, which also served as the cockpit, where a huge black print of the number "3"

In the midst of this, Zero Two appeared from one of the bridges and saw the running training mecha. She watched the mecha for a short while before shrugging her shoulders and leaving out of boredom.

Fast forward to the present.

"Darling!"

Zero Two snuggled her face into Adam's neck as she felt his broad arms embracing her.

"Hehe..." She let out a chuckle as she sniffed his scent and even licked his neck. And just as she was immersing herself in his scent, she suddenly smelled something different that made her snap out of her dreamy state.

"...Darling?" She pulled back from his arms and looked at him.

Adam slightly shivered as he saw his sister looking at him with an eerie dark stare. Her beautiful turquoise lost its shine and began to turn into a dark swirling pool of possessiveness.

"Yes?" The majority would find her creepy or off-putting whenever she was like this, but Adam only finds her absolutely adorable. It was like those times when your baby sister wants to cling to you and doesn't want to give you to anybody else.

"Whose smell am I picking up from you?" Zero Two asked in a grave inquisitive tone.

Adam nonchalantly answered, "My partner."

Zero Two's eyes dimmed even more.

"Did you do.... that with her?"

"Nope." Adam's answer almost made her eyes regain their shine. But her expectations were broken once again when he added, "Not yet, at least."

"Huh?" In that moment, her eyes completely dimmed to darkness.

"What do you mean by that, darling?"

Looking into her eyes, Adam smiled and pinched her mochi-like cheeks. "Oh come on now, love. It's not like you didn't know what I could do."

Zero Two frowned at his words before squishing her cheeks to his hard chest.

"....You'll have to compensate me at night."

"Is that all?" Adam asks questioningly. "I mean, we'll do it every every night. Heck, any time you want it. That's a given." he says naturally.

Zero Two listened to him as he caressed her head and continued, "But I know I'm not being fair to you, my love. So ask me of anything. Any demands or requests. I'll accept it."

Zero Two grew quiet, pondering over his words. In the meantime, Goro and Ichigo, who had been keeping quiet beside them for some time, realized that Adam was looking at them with a questioning expression, as if to ask; 'Do you need anything?'

Adam thought that they wanted to talk to him, since they waited for him and sister. But the pair shook their heads, realizing that they were rude for watching the scenario between the pair of siblings. Ichigo and Goro bowed their heads in apology and excused themselves, leaving Adam and Zero Two behind.

Adam glanced at them, knowing that they really had something to tell him, but decided to respect his moment with his sister.

"I got it." Zero Two says.

Turning his attention back to his sister, she looked up to him, prodding her chin on his chest.

"What is it, love?"

"Everything Darling did with her, Darling has to do it twice to me."

"Okay." Adam answered instantly.

"Really?"

"But are you prepared for that, though?"

Zero Two blinked. "What does Darling mean?"

Adam smiled mischievously in response to her innocent question.

"What I mean to say is.... if I teased her for almost two hours...." He gave her a knowing gaze.

Zero Two's eyes widened in fear. She knew what teasing meant and for her, it was basically torture!

"Y-you did not!"

"Oh, but I did."

Zero Two squinted her eyes and bit her lower lips. She pouted at him for a few seconds before regaining her courage. "Fine! I can take it!"

"Oh, my love, you will regret those words."

Hearing his seductive and yet, foreboding tone, Zero Two gulped as her lower body began to tingle in anticipation.

Adam merely cackled in response.

When dinner time came, Adam and Zero Two didn't appear in the boarding house's mess hall, which disappointed the majority of the girls with the exception of Ikuno who still had her doubts and apprehension of him. There wasn't anything interesting to do about after their dinner time other than reviewing their first ever official drill exercise, which was ruined by the boasting of a certain midget stamen pilot which turned into a bickering stand-off with his own partner, Miku.

The discussion time was ruined and Nana broke up the fight by telling them to retire early for the night. The girls didn't immediately head into their respective rooms and instead, decided to visit one of their friends. Since Naomi didn't join them for dinner, they assumed that Adam to be staying in her room after brining her dinner.

To their disappointment again, Adam wasn't there and Naomi was sleeping peacefully. There was a dinner on the table-side bed however. But it seems that it wasn't touched yet, meaning that Naomi had been resting since earlier.

Now, the girls couldn't help but wonder to themselves what exactly happened for their friend to be so exhausted that she couldn't even eat dinner.

Meanwhile, in another room inside the parasite boarding house, sweet muffled moans of a woman could be heard from beyond the door. The heavy and musky scent of bodily fluids permeated the room. Adam opened his eyes as he answered her, "I'm also a little surprised about that because before I was sent here, HQ informed me that I would be partnered up with you."

Zero Two blinked in confusion. "Do you think the doctor is disregarding orders?"

Adam shook his head. "I don't think so." he looked at her and asked, "Do you know why we were separated in the first place?"

Zero Two shakes her head.

Pausing for a moment, Adam took a deep breath before deciding to reveal his thoughts to her sister. "Aside from the experimentation and examination of our potential, I think the higher ups of APE had another agenda."

"...." Zero Two stared at her brother in silence, prompting him to continue.

"I think they're preparing for a war." Adam revealed.

Zero Two's eyes widened.

'War? Against what? The kalxosaurs?'

And while she was questioning that in her head, Adam continued.

"Honestly, it's not that difficult to guess. The two of us are a unique pair of siblings. One, having the capability of enhancing other parasites' strength while the other, showing the greatest potential strength of a parasite combatee."

"Heck, you could even go toe-to-toe against a moho-class klaxosaur with your stampede mode. And that's just you piloting your FRANXX by yourself." Adam concludes, "So it's quite obvious that they're using us to prepare for war. And so is the doctor."

Zero Two blinked at the last part of what her brother said. "Dr. FRANXX as well?"

Adam nodded. "Yes. He has the same goal as them. Which is why squad 13, the experimental combatant squad, is created. This must be the reason why despite the doctor not following orders, they still leave him be." he continued, "However, the higher ups are still apprehensive about him. Hence, that's why they sent me here and still isn't being pulled out despite not being paired with you. And to be honest, I also think that the doctor has a hidden agenda for strengthening his units."

Zero Two didn't need him to explain anymore. Going by his words, it seems thst the doctor was preparing for a war on his own. With her and her darling here, they were being used to strengthen his own army.

Zero two gloomily laid her cheeks on his chest and sighed. Her eyes fluttered in sadness as she closed them shut, and focused on the heat of his body. At this moment, she truly felt frustrated and honestly, who wouldn't be? She and her loved one were being used for their schemes and the two of them were completely helpless against it. They were akin to caged birds, but even worse since at least these birds weren't forced to fight .

"....."

Silence lingered in the air as the two fell into their own thoughts. Their only solace in their harsh environment was each other, which was at least a little bit comforting despite the fate that awaited them.

'Will we ever get out of here? Are we ever going to be free? Will I.... ever have a family with my darling? Would we even be alive?' As these thoughts plagued the pink-haired girl, she felt a strong arm wrapping tightly around her body as if to secure and protect her from the outside world.

"I promised." A strong voice spoke into her ears, bringing her out from her depressive turmoil.

Zero Two slowly opened her eyes to meet his.

"I promised." Adam repeated determiningly. "I will show you the world. From the tallest mountains, to the vast open seas. From snowy tundras, to the exotic lands of marsh. From forests filled with all sorts of animals to jungles filled with large and tall trees. All of the fantastic places in the world, everywhere you want to go, I promise to bring you to all of them."

"Someday, we will be free." He declared as he gazed into her eyes. "So, never lose hope. Understand?"

"Yes!" Zero Two's eyes were already wet with tears. Her lips were trembling, but she held her emotions in. She was happy, so very happy that she had her brother in this world.

She honestly didn't know what she would do or what she would become had he not been with her. She could not imagine her life without him. After all, It was only thanks to him that she could breathe in this suffocating world.

And so, just as he promised to show her the world once they gained their freedom, she promises to love and dedicate her one and only life to him and him alone. She will live and die for his happiness.

After all, he is her everything.

He is.... her darling.

Inside dark room lit up by various monitors and hologram screens placed in a wide desk, Dr. FRANXX stared at one screen that showed the interior of Adam and Zero Two's room. It was a hidden camera that spied on the privacy of the pair of siblings. Did the old man care?

Not at all. Because, again, these Human-klaxo sapien hybrids were treated worse than parasites. They simply had no human rights.

In any case, based on how keenly the old man was observing the screen, it seems that he had been watching and listening into them for quite some time.

"Hmmm... as expected. The boy already knows." Dr. FRANXX rubbed his beard thoughtfully, before cackling. "Heck, I bet he even knows that their room is under surveilance and he still decided to say these things."

The old man snickered, "Is he taunting me or threatening me?" he held his chin and said, "Honestly, I don't know and it doesn't matter."

He rested his aching back at the backrest and looked upwards. His old aged eye and mechanical eye stared in the ceiling with a distant gaze.

"It's not too long now..."

It is unknown whether he was saying this to himself or someone else. But one thing was for sure, a storm was brewing and Zero Two and Adam is the center of it all.
