The girls peaked out of the janitor's closet
to make sure that no other student or faculty member was close by.
"As if the damage already done by the nurse
was not bad enough," June said. How are we supposed to explain us suddenly
showing up after that bat swarm? "
"Perhaps if April G can use her time skip to
get the three of you around the other students, that should provide you with a
clean alibi of where you have been," Hughley said. "You could simply tell the
faculty members that may have noticed your absence that you got lost amongst
the other students. "
Hughley passed through the crack of the doors
before returning to the girls.
"Aren't you joining us?" Madison asked.
"Whatever is blocking my magic can't be too
far from here. I will scour the school to find anything that may resemble a
nullifier. Once there, I will find the three of you and we can all escape this
orphanage. But until then, please try to keep a low profile. "
The three girls nodded at Hughley as he
quickly ran down the hallway. April G extending out her arms as each of her
sisters grabbed one of her hands so that the three of them could escape period.
"Are you sure you can handle this?" June
asked. "I mean last time; you got a bloody nose. "
"I know. I just must pace myself this time.
Now hold on. "
She closed her eyes and channeled pink magic
through her veins as she focused on the auditorium. In the blink of an eye, the
three girls each disappeared and reappeared at the back of the auditorium. The
sound of panicking students could be heard on the other side of the curtains
and the girls knew that they had arrived at the right place. Their only
question was how to properly blend in with the group.
"Good job. "Madison said. "But just remember
what Hughley said. We must blend in and act like we have been a part of the
rest of the students the whole time. "
"Are you sure that's going to work? "April G
asked. "I mean the nurse knew that we weren't with the other students and tried
to kill us."
"what are you saying?" June next
"I don't think she was working alone or at
the very least, somebody stronger might have sent her "
"Maybe the same person who sent all those
bats to attack the school. "Madison said.
"Well, whoever sent her must be pretty damn
powerful. Jim said. I just hope that we can get out of this place before they
try and another stunt.
As the girls continued their conversation,
they noticed that the curtains began to be pulled back.
"There you three are. "Dean Trask said with a
smile on his face.
"Hello, Sir "
"I was worried about the three of you period
I take full responsibility for endangering you 3 and I hope you can accept my
sincerest apologies. "
You do not have to apologize Sir. Madison
said. Luckily, we were able to get out and joined the rest of the students
during the swarm.
"I am happy to hear that. I did send the
nurse to find the three of you, but I have not heard back from her since she departed.
By any chance have any of you come across her?"
The three girls all looked at each other and
remembered the horrific experience that they had encountered with the nurse.
"We can't say that we have Sir." April G
said.
Perhaps she is still slithering around the
school. June said with an unsubtle remark as the other girls uncomfortably
glared at her.
"Slithered? "The Dean asked.
"Just a figure of speech. "
"I see. Perhaps I have gotten too old and am
not up to date with the latest slang that you youngsters use. "
"Maybe we should join the rest of the
students. "Madison said.
"I believe that would be a great idea. "The
dean said. "The students shall be escorted to their dorms by the faculty
members if any of you need any counseling of what transpired today, please feel
free to come to my office."
"we will, Sir. Thank you." April G said as
the Dean walks away.
"I don't think there's any amount of
counseling that could help us get through watching the school nurse turn into a
horrible snake monster. "Said June.
Especially after what she did to Jerome.
April G added.
As Madison watched April G hang her head, she
sensed a deep sense of guilt and sadness. But strangely, she knew that these
feelings that she had carried were not hers
"You can't blame yourself, April G," Madison
said. "It wasn't your fault."
How do you know that I feel guilty? I do not
know. Maybe it is just another one of my powers.
Do you mean empathy? June said.
"Yeah, that's it. How did you know?
"I might sleep through English class weekly,
but some things stick out. That word just stood on my mind for the past couple
of weeks.
Why is that? April G asked.
"Before I met the two of you, I was hoping
that somebody would have empathy for me. Just being the girl who was always
picked on and pushed away. I just wanted someone to be empathetic with me. "
"What's a good thing that we all have each
other now. Especially with these crazy powers and all these monsters after us.
"Madison said.
"Amen to that." April G said. "Oh wait.
Probably can't use that word now that we know that we're all … "
"Let us not say that out loud," Madison said."
After all, we have no idea if anyone or anything may be listening to us.
"I guess you're right." June agreed. "Come
on. Let go split up and blend in with the rest of the students."
