The World Covered By Fog

Since the dawn of humanity, there was an existence that plagued all lifeforms and sought to destroy or corrupt them. It had many names - Miasma, Dark Mana or the Black Fog. Over 90% of the world was covered by this fog while terrifying creatures known as aberrants inhabited it. This resulted in humanity nearly being brought to extinction. Shivan was born in such a world. How will his life play out?

The PCA (3)

After that cafeteria incident, not many bothered to approach them. With Alexia's strength, nobody wanted to mess with her.

The week passed quickly and Friday soon arrived. During that time, Alexia took the liberty to skip most of her classes, especially those involving combat training.

She took the liberty of inviting Shivan which he accepted. School sucks and he'd rather hang out with her. Chloe was also there, and the three would primarily spend time in Alexia's dorm.

They'd spend most of the time, playing on Alexia's GS6 with her vast array of games. The only time Shivan would go back to his room was when they wanted to play a multiplayer game on the PC.

Though boys weren't allowed in the girls' dorms after 7 pm, Shivan still stayed so late so often. It came to the point that the dormitory supervisor just accepted his presence there.

Other than that, they practised their hobbies. Shivan played music and he also taught Alexia how to cook.

But during that time Shivan did discover something about Alexia accidentally that he found to be really interesting.

(Flashback)

"Well, it's a bit early but, she mind won't would she?"

Shivan entered Alexia's dorm around 4:00 pm, just after when school normally ends. She had given him the password to her dorm so he could enter with no problem.

But from her room, he heard her talking. She was speaking in a slightly high-pitched voice, and speaking as if someone was in the room with her.

"Thank you so much for the 300 Ore donation, Flying Monkey!"

Opening the order, Shivan saw her speaking on a microphone playing BlockWorld. On a second monitor, Alexia had a live chat with a cute avatar tracking her movements.

As soon as he'd entered, she immediately noticed me.

"Ah! Sorry chat, a friend of mine just came a bit early. She's returning a game I lent her." Alexia quickly muted up before rushing towards Shivan.

"You're a VGamer?" Shivan questioned her immediately.

"Yeah... sorry for not telling you earlier. I didn't expect you to come this early. I'll tell you more about the job after I finish the stream. So sit tight for a bit." Alexia quickly informed him in a hurry.

"Ok, but before you go, why'd you call me a 'she'?" He quickly asked her before she left.

"I don't want rumours spread. My fans won't like it either."

After receiving the answer to the question he had, Shivan let her be as he waited for her in the living room.

That was something Shivan didn't expect from her. Alexia told him afterwards that she started the channel three years ago and had a friend of hers rig a model. Since then she has grown a massive following of around 1.2 million subscribers.

At the moment other than Shivan, only Chloe and a few others knew about her identity as a Vgamer. Shivan joked that if Alexia showed her real face, she would earn more money.

Other than that, during the week they also held two group study sessions which they'd also invited Arlo to study along with them. With Chloe as their teacher and a high overall IQ, they managed to learn a lot. Though Arlo did berate the three for not going to school.

Sometimes, after school, Chloe would disappear for hours before arriving back at 11 o'clock. Shivan didn't question it as he didn't want to be in someone else's business.

Around the school, they had become known as the troublemakers. The teachers hated them but the student body hated them even more.

Shivan guessed the reason for their hate towards them was because they were disrespecting their goals. The students here put so much effort into training that seeing them lazing about irritates them. However, that was just his theory, though Alexia also subscribed to this.

But nobody acted against them because of Alexia.

On Friday they had a duel class at the end of the day, where they fought other students. This was the most anticipated class for all the students as they could finally compare their strengths to each other.

Shivan, Alexia and Chloe were all going to skip the class, but the teachers practically dragged them here and forced them to attend.

For this class, they had to pick weapons they wanted to use. The school gave everyone a massive selection made from mithril. Mithril was highly mana conductive, making it extremely useful for weapons.

Shivan picked gauntlets since he didn't know how to use any other weapons.

Alexia used her own katana which was too small for her and equipped herself with a small dagger as well.

Chloe grabbed a scythe while Arlo grabbed a small knife, similar to Alexia.

As they waited in the stands, they watched several matches happening simultaneously. The fields had a special barrier around them which prevented people from getting harmed.

These barriers were coded in a way such that they transferred all damage that went below skin deep to the barrier and replaced it with illusionary pain.

However, the damage dealt depended on which part of the body the attack was hit. Any damage to arms would result in a small cut but anywhere else there was no damage.

So if someone got stabbed, they would feel the pain of the stab, but there would only be minor damage. And if they were hit had enough to lose their arm, the arm would still be intact but you wouldn't be able to use it for the rest of the battle.

Since the barrier only prevented damage from going just past the skin, you could still bleed, but the cuts would heal in about half a day or so. It was even less time for gift users.

Also, these barriers were apparently ridiculously expensive and required a lot of mana crystals to use.

Currently, the most interesting match that was going on was between a girl named Fiona Wilde and a guy named Mason Wright. They were both high rankers.

Fiona looked like she had a gift while Mason lacked one. Despite his disadvantage, he was keeping up with her well.

Mason tried to finish her off with a big magic spell, but Fiona created a magic arrow to pierce through the attack which also finished him off.

Soon after the end of that match, Alexia's name was called up. As she stood up, Shivan felt the glare of another person piercing into Alexia.

"Who's that?"

"It's rank 5 Jeanne Terrano." It was Arlo who responded to my question.

"Ah... she's from Alexia's family. Why is she so angry with you?"

"I don't know. If I had to guess, maybe she's angry because I'm failing the Terrano name. Or something like that. I dunno."

Alexia answered nonchalantly as she went up to an empty stage, ready to face her opponent. The guy she was facing was above average height with dark skin and short black hair.

Shivan felt like he recognised this guy. Then he remembered that this was one of the guys Alexia beat up back in the cafeteria.

Just as the teacher was starting the match, Alexia put her hand up and spoke.

"I surrender."
