The Dinner

I dried my hair with a towel as I went towards the dining room, I knew today's dinner was not going to be a simple one. My husband agreed to my son's wish of becoming a hunter. I knew I was being selfish by not permitting his decision, I knew he was strong enough to survive the savage lands but, as a mother I can't be at ease knowing my son may die at any point in his dangerous journey.

I entered the dining room by opening the door, The food was already placed on the dining table by our maid and my bodyguard, Selina. The delicious aroma of the food

Didn't concern me, I was still thinking, about what to decide, whether agree and let my son follow his dreams or deny it and be selfish about it.

He and Alice with their intellect and talent could still become successful researchers which is very evident from their recent discovery in their research, I wish they are not adamant about becoming hunters.

I sat on one of the five chairs and made myself comfortable, thinking about how to develop my company to increase the profit. Even though money's value is not as high as before the awakening, being rich never hurts. Sigh how much I dreamed about living like this, without caring about money before the awakening.

I watched as my husband and daughter entered the room, talking about all properties the concept of light and healing had. At least she showed interest in inheriting my company after my inevitable retirement.

"Talk about this stuff later honey, We need to have a serious discussion about your morning action. What were you thinking? Allowing them to become hunters! I know they are strong but there is a high risk." I looked at my husband who stopped talking with my daughter and sighed looking at my eyes.

"I know honey, Just wait till they come home, we can have this conversation with them, Nathan said that Alice is coming to you right?"

Still not feeling satisfied by his answer I pouted and closed my eyes turning around to hide my silly smile, pretending not to hear the sweet words my husband told to console me. While my daughter just sat in the chair with no expression, looking at us like watching a movie. Nathan was indeed right puberty changed her. I just wish she grew out of it and changed back to her adorable character.

I felt two familiar presences outside the door standing there, I was sure my Darwin also felt it, I stopped acting like a teenager and adopted a serious look as it was time to have the conversation I didn't want to have with the couple anytime soon.

Nathan and Alice entered through the door, Nathan entered with a bright smile and Alice had a flustered look as she avoided looking at us. Seeing their slightly swollen lips and looks, it wasn't hard to predict what happened. Seems like my little son is growing, I have to remind them to use protection.

"Hello Uncle, Aunty, and Linda" Alice greeted us with the same flustered look and they sat on the chairs next to each other.

We started eating our dinner, the roasted meat of a Beta-level bull and rice, the rice is of top quality and created by myself. The meat of these monsters was very tasty even when eaten raw. We talked about some simple things not to jump straight to the 'conversation' which just involved me, Nat, and Alice teaming up to tease Linda while my husband just watched us as we laughed at Linda's outburst.

[Nathan Pov]

While laughing as I continued to tease Linda about her stoic face, I looked down finding that I have finished eating and so did everyone. Ha, so the time came. I grabbed Alice's left hand with mine and intertwined our fingers and nodded looking at her.

" " We have decided to accept your condition, Dad/Uncle" "

We said at the same time, I knew it was a hard decision for my parents as both knew the risks involved in us becoming hunters. We knew that there was no guarantee of our lives in savage lands.

My mom just tried to say something but ultimately decided not to and just sighed, I knew that this was my mom's approval of my decision. After seeing my mother's actions, my father smiled and looked at both of us.

"You will join the defenders on Monday, you can take the remaining days of the week as your last vacation and you will not be in my team as there have been some changes in my plan"

While I was happy to have some extra time to conduct research, I became curious about whose team we will be assigned to, and before I could ask my father,

"Which team will we belong to, Uncle?" Alice, who couldn't control her curiosity asked.

"Azra has taken an interest in both of you and decided to train him himself," said my father, Which surprised all of us present, being taught by someone who stands at the pinnacle of the world means a lot, and it will be a lot easier to receive permission to go to the savage lands of other countries. Still, I couldn't help but ask

"Really Dad?"

"Well it's either that or he just wants to push all the work on my shoulders"

We all chuckled at his answer and my mom suddenly asked,

"I am not going to do any research till I become a 4-star mage, you know that each monster has a special organ that converts the mana from their surroundings into the element or elements of their affinity right? Nat has decided to use this method to create devices that work on the same principle he named the devices Artifacts"

Way to spoil Alice I thought of surprising them with the news but you will be punished tonight. My mom and sister looked at me surprised while my father's eyes had a glint he immediately asked me

"It works well in theory but is only possible because of my six eyes as I can easily see and manipulate mana, For example, in theory, the Beta-class rabbit had an organ that converted mana to wind mana which it used to make itself light and fast, the organ converts mana hmmm how can I say, I see mana as threads, Pure mana is translucent but all elemental mana is of some color, water is dark blue, ice is bright blue, and the wind is light green. The organ absorbs 70 percent of the mana needed to perform the spell from the surrounding and mixes 30 percent of its mana and mixes it in a specific pattern to perform a spell, they couldn't absorb the pure mana from the surroundings to replenish their reserves because of some reason which I couldn't find."

"Just say can you do it or not"

I have never seen my father this excited, he looked like a gacha player seeing an S-ranked png of their favorite what do they call that again? Yeah, Waifu.

"Well, It has a high possibility, I just need to use the organ's unique pattern and make it so that, the mana is absorbed and mixed in that specific pattern. I could make it given some time and resources, But the quality of the materials of the Artifacts should be strong enough to handle the spell"

My father laughed excitedly and hugged me in one of his bone-crushing hugs

"Haha, are you sure you don't want to be a researcher son?" he asked while laughing.

I just escaped his hold and ran to my room while dragging Alice who was laughing seeing my fate by her hands, Yes she is getting her ass spanked tonight hehe.

[3rd person POV]

At night Linda couldn't get a spec of sleep as she heard the sounds of high-pitched moaning and clapping sounds.

The week passed in the blink of an eye, Alice and Linda focused on their mana while Nathan concentrated on creating some new spells and his research in creating Artifacts, It proved to be a very hard job to mimic the specific pattern hence he made very little progress. They both decided on which costume to wear, Nathan Whore a black high-collared long-sleeved jacket and pants, and he bought coolers for his eyes as they glow in the dark. Alice whore a skin-tight white costume that highlighted her curves perfectly. Their costumes were made up of the silk and web of a Beta-ranked silkworm and Beta-ranked tarantula. The costume was highly resistant to damage and had some magic resistance.

While talking with Alice about how to proceed, he suddenly gained enlightenment, he cursed himself for being stupid and left for his lab after pecking Alice's lips. This time instead of trying to make the mana flow in a certain pattern he directly used the organ as the core, It worked but the mana needed was higher than when used by monsters.

Finally, it was time for them to join the defenders, the organization that is under the UG, which deals with monsters and human threats, It does not involve in dealing with small-time criminals as it's the duty of the cops. They went to the Defender's office in their city. After filling out the required details and registering themself as trainees they went to the training ground-13 where their Father/Uncle told them to go to meet their team captain and teacher, Azra.

[Azra Pov]

I continued to stare at the sky when I felt two presences coming towards me, I knew who they were from their mana signature, my two new students they seem to have chosen their costumes. I suddenly felt something weird about Nathan's coolers. Before he could react I went near him and snatched away his coolers. I focused on activating my E-gene which allowed me to know the property and the working of anything I touched, A broken ability If I say so myself the reason I became a 5-star ranked mage. All I had to do for understanding and comprehending my mana was just touch my water mana and wind mana. I inspected the coolers.
