Hideout

As Oz turned through the pages of the tome he was shocked at what he saw. The pages were filled with different runes and spells, however all these spells were devised using dragon-tongue. Just looking at the incantations and the runes made Oz realise how powerful this kind of magic was. In the room with Salazar, his brain automatically changed his spell for him through a split-second moment. Oz didn't understand why he had done that though, there was probably some kind of trigger for it. What Oz was really curious about since that day was how he could learn dragon-tongue to have all his spells be that powerful.

This tome right here was his answer. It had all of Merlin's theories and formulae on spells and runes, along with also somethings on enchantment that were centered around dragon-tongue as well. This sort of situation was incredibly beneficial to Oz. Looking at the spells inside the tome however Oz came to a quick conclusion that 'dragon spells' were far more difficult than normal spells. As a matter of fact, seeing the intricacies made Oz realised that what he did in the fireplace study was a sheer moment of luck.

'If I had to rank these spells against normal spells... they'd be far above a NEWT level for comprehension... There's also the fact that a bloodline with relations to dragons is needed'.

While this tome of knowledge was certainly a boon for Oz, there was no way he could learn all the spells over-night. As a matter of fact these were spells that were so high-level that he'd need to be at a Dumbledore level of power at least to be able to even attempt to learn them for daily usage. Ever since the fluke in the fireplace study, he attempted to recreate the spell he casted however nothing worked... it was as if in the moment his body allowed it to happen as a way to show him what 'could be' in the future when he reached a higher level.

Skimming through more and more of the tome, Oz's respect for Merlin deepened as well as his curiosity. The man was heralded as an important figure in the wizarding community but with knowledge like this did he even view the community as something important? If such a character had truly died what could have killed him? Oz was convinced after looking at this tome and the ritual notes that he could have easily devised a way to prolong his life and for it not to be via an artefact like Nicolas Flamel's attempt at prolonged life. Thats where questions mainly began to sprout up, why would he suddenly die if he wielded such knowledge?

There was only two answers to that question. He either died of his own accord or he was killed by someone who knew more about him than anyone else and desired this sort of knowledge. There was the third option that the man was actually still alive however a lot of issues would arise if that were the case. So while the idea stayed in Oz's mind he focused in on the first two answers surrounding his death.

Finally after extensive reading Oz reached the end of the book which had a note written in it. A note left by Merlin himself.

'To whom unravels this tome,

I will assume that you are of my blood if you managed to open this tome. Use this tome as you see fit in your future endeavours.

While this tome includes a multitude of spells, runes and enchantments, its true purpose is that of a 'key'.

This 'key' is used in order to enter a certain location of mine, a place I used to use as a hideout.

The location of said hideout is a formation of stones located in the south of England. To be precise for me, its in southern wessex however that may not be the case for you my descendant as times change drastically.

I hope this location will serve you well my descendant. Show the world that the Ambrosius name is something to be respected.

Merlin'.

.

Reading this note for a while Oz felt an influx of emotions. He was happy that he now had a set place he could potentially have as a home in the coming future however there were things within Merlin's letter that instantly struck Oz as odd.

All of the issues and questions arose from the third line in the note.

'Maybe Merlin wrote it that way just because thats how he writes... Maybe he wrote it like that as he was a meticulous man...'.

As Oz shuffled through the different scenarios in his head he couldn't settle on an answer.

'The main issue... why would he call the place a 'hideout'? I may be reading into it too much... but the man was so powerful he could use dragon-spells. Why would such a powerful wizard need a hideout? Was it just a place where he could relax by himself or was he actually being hunted down at one point...'.

The next issue Oz ran into on that third line was Merlin explaining that this was 'A certain location of mine'.

'Again I feel I could be reading into this too much... but a 'certain location of mine' sounds as though this isn't the only place he called home or made a 'hideout'... It wouldn't be far-fetched to think that the man had a place in every major country actually, considering his drive for magic'.

Oz shelved both of these notions for now but kept them fresh in his mind. At the moment it wasn't really necessary to know Merlin's past fully.

Thinking over the note Merlin left about the location of his hideout, Oz had one place in mind. Wessex was what the south of England was referred to back in 900 AD, the time in which Merlin should have been moving about the most. To confirm his suspicions Oz needed a map.

'Accio Map'

As Oz flicked his wrist a massive amount of maps flew at him. Oz was hit with a mass amount of paper and in the end a mountain of maps covered him.

'Yeah... in hindsight that was a bad move in a place like this one'.

Sighing to himself Oz sifted through all the maps until he found a map of England that he could work off of. Oz already knew the general location, however it was confirming if it was 'there'.

After an hour of researching and confirming, Oz finally came to a conclusion on where Merlin's 'hideout' in the UK was.

'Stonehenge...'

Stonehenge as a hideout... seemed like a fun idea when I first thought it up. Then I researched more and found that Merlin himself in myth had a very stark connection with the place.

Also, to explain the debacle on 'dragon-spells' as im dubbing it. Dragon spells are above wandless spells in terms of difficulty and thats even with a wand. Doing dragon spells wandlessly would be a whole nother leap up, way above anything else.
