CHAPTER 63

"That was getting too dangerous for my taste. I hope you don't mind me stepping in, Natsu", I said as I look at the incredibly wounded Dragon Slayer. Natsu wanted to reprimand me about what I did, particularly helping him in his fight but it would seem that he sustained too much damage that he eventually collapsed into unconsciousness. Erza who was no longer bounded by Jellal's spell due to the man losing consciousness immediately stood up and went to check on the fallen Natsu.

After checking if Natsu is fine, Erza said, "He's okay, his injuries are numerous but Natsu can recover".

"That's good", I replied. I place my hand on the chest of the fallen Jellal and began to concentrate and check if I could detect that foreign energy in his body again. After a while, I found it near the very center of his magical reserves. This time the energy was faint, barely undetectable. It would seem that every time Jellal uses his magic, the foreign energy would compensate and power itself so that it won't be pushed out of Jellal's body. Now that he is unconscious the energy became dormant and calm. It basically only acts when necessary.

Erza then stood up and formed a magical seal. She took out a sharp katana in her inventory of weapons and said with a determined look on her face, "Enzo, move out of the way. This time I will kill Jellal. I can't let him live".

I look at Erza and I became sad. Erza is a kind person, and I wasn't sure if she could handle taking a life. That was a decision that would certainly have huge ramifications in the long run.

"Erza, you are a kind person. It's not in your nature to take a life", I said to her.

Ezra had a painful look on her face but she said nothing. Suddenly she started having tears in her eyes and said, "But I must do this. I can't let him make other people's lives miserable. I won't let him make slaves of people again".

"No Erza", Simon said as he suddenly appeared on the top floor. He went towards Erza and place a hand on her shoulder and said, "I will take that burden from you". Simon then used his fingers to wipe the tears that were flowing out of Erza's eyes, and he gave her a warm smile.

He then walks towards me, with his fist covered with his signature dark magic, and said, "Move Enzo, I will do this".

I look at him straight in the eyes, "I don't think that you should do that".

With a determined look on his face, Simon said, "This is no time to back out now! Jellal must die! We can't allow him to continue trying to revive Zeref! His idea of a free world is nothing but a delusion of a madman! A madman that must no longer exist from this world!".

"...I understand your decision more than you know Simon", I said to him. This sentence greatly surprised Simon.

"I did the same thing as what you are about to do now. I thought I was doing the right thing back then", I sighed and then look at the fallen Jellal.

"Who knows if what I did was right? Some would probably argue that I was doing the right thing, a small minority would probably argue that what I did was cruel and wrong. I became a judge, jury, and executioner. I for one know how much that ruins you inside. So, no I won't let you kill Jellal. Especially now that I think he is innocent, or at least, probably innocent".

"What!?!", Simon said with shock in his voice.

"Erza said that Jellal's attitude change when he was tortured and that he suddenly learned how to used magic. I found this quite odd, then during Natsu and Jellal's fight, I sense another foreign energy in Jellal's body. This energy became more detectable the longer Jellal used his magic. And now that he lost consciousness, the foreign energy in his body also became dormant. But it's still there. I think this energy did something to Jellal, that is my theory at least. And I just can't sentence someone to death just because he might be innocent", I said to Simon.

Simon for a brief moment looks at me and Jellal. He is clearly digesting what I said. After a while, it became clear that he no longer wanted to kill Jellal when he stopped channeling his magical energy in his fist and said, "What are we going to do now?".

"We need to leave this tower", I said to everyone in the room. Right now the tower was still containing the magical energy that was used in Etherion but it was very unstable. The tower could still give us enough time to escape with plenty to spare but it would inevitably explode. And that explosion would be incredibly huge. It would no doubt kill all of us.

"All right then, we'll take the boat we used to get on the island. Hopefully, it wasn't destroyed during the landing of Etherion", Simon said as he went towards Natsu and carried him on his back. Erza argued that she should carry Natsu but Simon was adamant that he would like to do it since he was the only one aside from me that wasn't injured during the few battles that happened within the tower.

We later found the boat in the dock, luckily it wasn't destroyed by anything. We went on it and immediately went into the sea. While we were traveling, we saw Juvia and the rest inside a water bubble. They went towards us and were extremely happy that we were safe.

Kagura immediately went to his brother and with tears in her eyes, she gave him a tight hug.

I was the one who carried Jellal to the ship. The moment we arrived on the ship I placed him below deck and surrounded his body with ice. This way if he wakes up and tries to channel his magical energy then my ice would just absorb it. Once we were back on land, I plan to immediately deliver him to Porlyusica. Perhaps the unofficial healing mage of Fairy Tail could help Jellal.

Because we were still in a dangerous situation, I asked Juvia to control the water so that we would travel faster. Which Juvia immediately did. She didn't last long due to her already being tired but the distance was enough for us to not be in any real danger anymore. Approximately 2 hours later we saw a huge explosion in the distance, no doubt it was the Tower of Heaven exploding.
