31 CHAPTER 31

"Where are you going?", Kagura asked as she held my arm.

"I will be taking a mission so that I can earn some cash", I said to her as I took my hand and patted her head.

"How long will that take?", she asked.

"I don't know. Anyway, I need you to stay with Cana and Gray for a while", I said as I look at the two kids in the side, they were Gray Fullbuster and Cana Alberona. For the last couple of days, the three of them had become friends, while I was busy trying to understand the new language of this world.

In truth, I wanted to take a mission on after I fought Laxus, but the language barrier was a major hurdle that I needed to overcome.

I studied for a few days to learn their language and I now know the alphabet of this world, I can also say that I have kindergarten-level reading ability...well barely kindergarten but we're getting there.

But I really needed money now so I tried to find a suitable mission that will allow me to earn money and study at the same time. The guild members were helpful enough to help translate what was written on the mission board. After a while, I found the mission that was suited for me, it was an escort mission.

With this mission, I would just be needing to guard a small caravan of merchants, I could easily do this mission with my observation haki. While staying with the caravan I could read some of the books that I will be bringing along with me.

Besides the mission will also serve another purpose, it will be the start of me distancing myself from Kagura. The mission is actually really easy but the reason that no one took it yet was that the mission had a working time of at least 3 months the earliest and half a year the longest. Most of the guild members didn't like the idea of being far away from their home for too long. I for one am used to solitude, so these types of missions are good for me.

"Don't worry Kagura, will take care of you. Right Cana?", Gray said as he looks at Cana. Cana just had a disappointed look on her face as she replied to him, "Wear some clothes, Gray".

"Oh crap! Not again", Gray said as he tried to find the clothes that he subconsciously threw away.

What a weird kid. I hope Kagura will be fine with these two taking care of her, I internally sighed when I thought of this.

"You know what Kagura, I have an idea that we can do while Enzo is away. Magic, you can learn magic!", Cana said to Kagura.

"I can have magic too?", Kagura asked with tears treating to fall from her eyes.

"I don't see why not. I also have magic, but they're still weak but I'll keep practicing them so that it will become stronger in the future", Cana said as she showed Kagura her card magic. "And once you have your magic, you can go with Enzo in one of those missions", Cana continued.

Kagura saw what Cana could do and she wipes the tears forming in her eyes and she looks at Enzo with all the confidence an 8-year-old child could muster and said to him, "I'll become a powerful mage so that I will go on missions with you..AND SO THAT YOU WON'T LEAVE ME BEHIND!", Kagura said as she shouted the last part of her sentence.

The entire guild members heard what the little girl said and all of them internally cheered for the little girl to become stronger. While Cana was dumbstruck that Kagura would shout something like that in the guildhall. She subconsciously looks at her father and she shouted without even thinking, "GILDARTS! I WILL BECOME A S-RANK MAGE JUST LIKE YOU!".

Gildarts who was minding his own business and just having his morning beer was shocked when he heard that. The beer that he was drinking accidentally went through the wrong pipe in his throat causing him to choke as a bodily response.

"..ah...(coughing sounds)...ah..I'll be waiting for you kid", Gildarts said to Cana as he tried to breathe.

Upon realizing what she said, Cana became immediately red due to embarrassment but she became even redder when she heard the response of Gildarts.

"Take care", I said as I patted both their heads and left the guildhall while carrying a bag containing some of my newly bought clothes as well as the books that I will be learning from. The only reason I was able to buy these things was that I got a loan from the guild. I bought some stuff and gave the rest to Kagura, I gave her clear instructions not to spend it on useless things. I can only hope she follows through with that.

The moment I left the guild I saw Master Makarov standing not far away. I walk towards him and said, "Good morning, Master".

"Off to your first mission?", Makarov asked.

After the talk that Master Makarov and I had in the forest, the relationship that the two of us have is kind of weird. He's wary of me but not hostile, so I guess that's good, considering that he knows some of my past.

"Remember what we talk about?", Makarov said as I approach him.

"I know, I will keep it in mind", I said to him in response.

"You are a kind kid, Enzo", Makarov said in a way that grandfather would say to his grandson.

"Were", I said as I walk pass him.

"Take care", Makarov said as I was a few feet away from him. I didn't respond and just continued walking, in the back, I could hear him sighing.
