Chapter 30: "Tell me who to kill"

There was a long silence between them. Lucia stared into Clover's eyes, hardly knowing what it was she was looking for there. Clover showed no signs of guilt. No fear. No compromise. An act of revenge taken such as this would be just, wouldn't it? Who would blame her after what Clover had taken? Then why couldn't she move the blade? 

One sweep across that soft pale skin and it would end it all. It was easy to do. Lucia had killed before. And yet through all the grief Clover has caused, some semblance of a friend seemed to remain. But then what to do with all the pain and anger?

"Aha!" Clover laughed, breaking the silence, "I knew it! You can't kill me, admit it!"

Lucia dropped the blade. She felt drained. It was a moment's relief not to harbour the means to end another life. And then she knew. In her heart, it was obvious.

"You're right," Lucia conceded, "As it stands, I can't kill you,"
